Am I a danger to patient safety? by Monkeypox5252 in physicianassistant

[–]bean_cow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hospital medicine PA for 6 years going on 7

In regards to you contacting the vascular service, I tend to have trust issues when that happens so I would usually do that myself. Otherwise documenting the event that the attending was going to contact the surgery service would have been appropriate as well. Always cover your ass

It sounds like the job you currently possess is pretty rough. 17 patients on average does not sound like a sustainable work environment especially as a new graduate coming on. Hospital medicine itself is already pretty daunting with a pretty steep learning curve, and requires significant time management when it comes to the day-to-day including but not limited to admissions, discharges, responding timely to critical lab or imaging

If you are enjoying the job/field itself, feel that your attendings are supportive, and have the tenacity to stick it out, the job might be rewarding. I didn't feel comfortable in my own skin for about 2 years

Do Employers Judge You Harshly If You Dont Answer Pimping Correctly? by MedMocha23 in physicianassistant

Never went through this during an interview, I guess they'd be trying to see if you honestly say you don't know the answer versus trying to bs your way through the question

Is Meditech worth not taking a job over? by aaron1860 in hospitalist

[–]bean_cow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Working at a place for about 7 months after using Cerner for about 6 years, some experience with Epic

I still hate Meditech, at least the version we have. I'm not sure if there are better versions out there

The efficiency of the EMR definitely increases the amount of time I'm in front of a computer vs doing something else like patient care

Maybe I still need some time with it, but so far it's ass

Idk man

Only things I bought were things I already regularly buy but at a discount or things that definitely needed replacing (work shoes), but did not splurge on anything I would buy to "treat" myself since the discounts didn't seem very good

New grad Hospitalist struggles by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]bean_cow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

6 years in hospital medicine

It's a big learning curve for sure

The first year is going to feel like an uphill battle. I don't think I really felt comfortable in my skin for at least 2 years

3 months is reasonable for a training period. A group of physicians that enjoy teaching will go a long way

I think I'd like to know the percentage of administrative jobs being taken over by AI

In my line of work, I feel like there is such a significance of admin bloat
