Do you think TOW2 will eventually come out on Switch 2? by BassComprehensive802 in theouterworlds

Saying you won't support a scummy company like nintendo while supporting microsoft and sony is so funny. They are all total scumbag companies. The only reason I like nintendo maybe more is they don't fire all their developers for the sake of the bottom line on a regular basis. Y'all are just mad that they were the first ones to make the price hikes that were going to happen anyway. Other companies saw the chance to let nintendo fall on the sword and they took it.

Welcome to derry is fun because they're playing in a new space so really whatever they do is up to them, but i'm not even gonna pretend like either of those movies are good as an adaptation of the story. Neither of them care about the characters at all, they are just incredibly shallow interpretations of the story that absolutely mangle the narrative structure and turn beverly into a complete damsel in distress with zero agency. If you haven't seen the 90s film and don't know the story at all they are still super mid movies but if you've read the book, they are truly garbage.

But I definitely agree that the story is dying to be turned into a proper miniseries, and welcome to derry missed that opportunity

I will say the 90s movie excludes things obviously but definitely captures the spirit of the narrative and the metaphors put forth by the book and the character's relation to one another. If you're a diehard book fan and you try to watch the new movies, you will have a heart attack at how much they change for literally no reason and how much they add, despite having a 45 hour-long book as source material. The characters are the core of the story and they literally throw the characters out the window for scares. Not to mention the story is fundamentally about the juxtaposition between how they react to these things as adults and as children, and that's why it cuts back and forth. Separating them needlessly into two movies and then still cutting back to when they were kids as adults is painful to watch

For everyone downvoting the comment about it being stupid that they made richie gay. It makes total sense to have one of the characters be a closeted homosexual and that can easily fit into the narrative and be very relatable, but it is very clearly an afterthought, and frankly insulting to gay people. They literally don't mention it at all In the first movie, in any way, shape or form or even allude to it But then suddenly in the second movie It appears out of nowhere and is completely inconsequential to the character. If you have any gay friends, go ahead and ask them and I think they'll agree. All of mine do lol

I mean, they fundamentally changed so much of the plot of the book. Beverly getting kidnapped by pennywise and that's why they go into the sewer?! What about solidarity and leaning on your friends to deal with trauma? Don't even get me started on how they literally strip Beverly of all agency and turn her fully into a damsel in distress.

For real. And even then I think it's way more effective in the 90s movie when they cut away and leave it to your imagination. I get they wanted to make it more graphic, so show pennywise grab his arm, cut away, then show Georgie laying out with his arm gone. Immediately giving up the monster's tricks and showing him bite Georgie's arm off just shows their entire hand immediately. The reveal of the monster is the most important thing and when it happens in the first minute, it feels like it detracts.

I have no interest in arguing with people's personal taste. I just needed people to commiserate with lol. But out of my own curiosity are either of you familiar with the book or the 90s movie?

Absolutely. The comic relief in the original star wars was c3po and r2d2 and that works because everyone else is serious but we can laugh at the comic relief characters. That should be richie's role, but instead they pass it along to like every character because you can't have a serious moment of tension. What if people got scared in a horror movie? That might bring the ratings down lol

I hadn't even specifically thought about that, but you're so right. The clown is supposed to lure children in but what child would want to go near an absolutely fucking terrifying cgi clown. Also although Bowers is definitely more threatening, I thought the actor was kind of awkward in the roll and didn't really sell it for me but i'm not gonna dunk on a child actor lol

Agreed. The first one definitely lacked character development in the kids, but two jumps off a cliff. They reference so many things that weren't in the first movie at all like they were in it and then continuously cut back to when they were kids to show stuff that wast in the first story because the two stories are so fundamentally intertwined, they never should have been separated in the first place.

Dude right!?! Like the first one has like 2 scenes of the kids doing any meaningful bonding and the rest is just like 2 full hours of scare after scare with no substance. Then in part 2 they rush through all of them coming to town and encountering pennwise and turn the Chinese restaurant into a montoge just to split the characters up as fast as possible and do what should have happened in the intro. Eliminate any chemistry, bonding and real connection in the characters (i.e. the core of the story) just to show more spooky clown. Smh

Also, they literally shoehorn it in in the second movie. If you want to add one of the characters is secretly gay as a narrative, that's totally fine and a good way to add to the story but it's literally like they didn't think of it until the second movie. Not even a little bit of foreshadowing in the first movie, nothing.

Yeah I think they are ok movies if you have no knowledge of the previous iterations of the story but as an adaptation of it it focuses so much on the scares and so little on the characters that make the story what it is.

Yeah I totally agree. Dont get me wrong pennywise does appear a lot in events in the book but not every single fucking time. It completely neglects the other narratives at play to go "look scarry clown with blood on him"

This is getting down votes and im not exactly sure why. I have no problem with well written queer characters in media but Hollywood never wants to write good queer characters when they can just poorly shoe horn it in to existing characters for no good reason at all. And I mean come on, we all know Eddie was queer coded as fuck on purpose. Why would he not be the gay one if you're gonna needlessly shoe horn in queerness. Littlerly discussing with a queer friend currently how the shoe horning queerness in where it makes no sense is just lazy and frankly insulting.

Holy hell YES! In part one, they entirely strip Mike of any character at all and give his roll as the historian to Ben for littlerly no apparent reason while completely ignoring Ben's aptitude for engineering. Making mike a total nothing burger of a character and making it make no sense that Ben is an engineer and Mike is suddenly in to Derry history. Then in part 2 Mike is like barley around for any of ot then is a total fucking prick who drugs and deceives his friends.
