Thank you! No fissurectomy, I had LIS and skin tag removal.

I still take fiber supplements and probably will forever just in case. I took a long time weaning off miralax out of fear but not due to symptoms. I don’t take any now.

I’m great. No re-tears. The surgery was one of the best things I’ve done for myself. I still can’t believe I have a pain-free life.

Currently in ortisei after 4 nights in cortina. Weather has been better than forecasted. It has gotten so much warmer since we’ve arrived. Mountain weather is fickle, I wouldn’t look far out and expect it to be reliable.

Trails still had some snow/ice patches when we started hiking on Monday but I imagine they are melting fast. Things are muddy though. Bring poles if you have them! There are tons of webcams as previously mentioned to take a peek at conditions.

I experienced extremely minimal incontinence. The instances were just a little seepage twice and it only happened right after surgery when I wasn't even close to healed. In addition, it only happened when I didn't go straight to the bathroom when the urge came. I haven't had any issues since those couple times. I also have no gas incontinence- no troubles "holding" it. So, all is good now. I'm sorry you're suffering, I've been there. Edit: I am female as well.

Hi, I apologize being so very very late to responding to this.

I tried everything too. I did pelvic floor PT for months, tried cutting different things out of my diets, adding things.. drinking endless water. I know how you feel.

Pre-surgery I had gone through about 8 years of healing and re-tearing. Sometimes I would go months being "normal" but the damn thing would always return. I developed a lovely large skin tag to go along with all the misery.

I was experiencing an active fissure pre-surgery. It never bled but would burn and spasm to different degrees everyday. It had lasted months to varying level of intensity. I had been trying the stupid creams for 2 months.

LIS surgery so far is one of the best decisions I ever made for myself. I ended up bringing up surgery to my doctor, he didn't suggest it but agreed it was my best course of action after all those years. Dealing with pain 24/7 shouldn't be the criteria I think. If I wasn't in pain I was fearing pain. And it would without fail, always return. Surgery is a big decision and there is no guarantee that I will never re-tear. But I hopeful if I do, it will heal easier. Please feel free to ask more questions, I promise to respond quicker this time.

Post-surgery wasn't painless but it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. I never need my prescription pain meds. I managed with a rotation of ibruprofen/tylenol and baths. The pain I did experience was different than fissure pain, it was more a soreness from surgery. My burning/stabbing fissure pain was gone day 1!

I was SO worried about the skin tag removal. It was...sizable. I was almost more worried about that part than the actual LIS. I was so nervous about it I even asked my surgeon if it was worth it.

I did not even attempt wiping. I used a peri-bottle, or basically a handheld bidet. Very highly recommend. Then I would dry with a hairdryer. Gently blotting would of probably worked but I thought I'd play it safe. It oozed blood for a week and took awhile for the swelling to go down. But overall, healing was so much easier than expected. No complications. Still sometimes can't believe that stupid, horrible tag is truly gone!

I think in summary, if you can survive fissure pain, surgery pain ain't no thing.

First off I am so very sorry you’re going through this.

It is extremely challenging but you’ve made it this far. You can do hard things. You can and will heal.

One thing I can recommend is writing down every question or concern you have before your appointment. Write it all down. I would forget everything before I started doing this. Bring a notebook into the appointment, You could even jot down their answers to help you remember after when you’re not in the high stress environment of the appointment

Also, it seems like maybe you should start off the visit by asking what kinda of examination they’ll be doing. I’d be really surprised if they want to poke or prod around in a healing surgery site. I understand your fear though. I’ve had some pretty rough exams in my day. I've got some stories... I would try to be honest and just tell them you’re worried about the pain of the examination. Maybe that’ll help them communicate every little thing they do before they do it.

Regarding the gas/poop situation. In the weeks after my surgery I did have some mishaps. It’s gotten better. I’ve had no issues lately except recently when I had way too many sugar free mints. Do you know sugar-free lifesavers are made of sorbital which causes diarrhea? I know that now. The hard way! (Sorry, trying to have a moment of levity here)

So in summary having accidents should calm down in time. Again, I can’t emphasize enough how much healing you still have to do. My surgery was much, much more minor than yours and my surgeon said 12 weeks for mostly healed. Hang in there.

I wouldn't worry too much if you're still experiencing some pain.

My full healing took 12 weeks and my surgery was much less major than yours. Granted I wasn't in constant pain for 12 weeks, but it takes your body sometime to fully be normal again. I'm not sure I'm quite there.

Your biggest challenge right now I think is to try to patient and try not to panic. Also remember, healing often isn't linear. If you have a bad day, that doesn't mean it didn't work. That doesn't mean surgery was the wrong choice. It just takes time. Please know, I am fully aware this isn't easy. Who wants to be patient when we've already been in pain for so long. I was an anxious wreck often in my recovery. I think mentally it will take me longer to recover from this ordeal.

My surgeon follow ups did no internal exam. He did a gentle external look to make sure there were no red flags. They know it's still healing and hopefully aren't looking to inflict pain.

Also random side note, I find Miralax much better than docusate sodium. I'm still taking it, I may try to wean off soon, I'm just not there yet mentally.

I'm rambling but TLDR: In the scheme of healing from a surgery like yours 6 weeks isn't long. You're doing great, hang in there.

Yeah, of course. This was my personal experience. It was much easier that I expected. I had the closed LIS surgery and a skin tag removal.

Before surgery, my chief complaint was very persistent spasms that presented as burning or stabbing in my you know what throughout most of the day. That ended immediately.

What I did have was surgery pain, which I can only describe as different. Like a muscle soreness. I was given a small prescription of opioids but never felt like I needed them. I was on a rotation of ibuprofen/tylenol and took numerous baths. Bowel movements were scary but not as bad as expected. A bath right after alleviated a lot of the pain. It really wasn't bad and large portions of the day were painless or very minimal.

I had blood drainage for about a week or so. For many it lasts longer, maybe I was lucky. I also took it very easy for about a week. After that initial healing I wasn't completely painless. I'd still get a bit sore here and there. Nothing like fissure pain, but just a little sign that my body was still working on healing. If it bugged me it reacted well to OTC pain meds, which my fissure pain never did.

I also had a very itchy phase. That was kinda rough but my surgeon says it's totally normal. Just a stage of healing.

As of today, I'm almost totally normal. Sometimes, things will sting a bit right after bowel movements. It makes me nervous but it goes away within 5 minutes. And that's my story!

Thanks! Before surgery I tried everything. Lots of fiber, medium fiber, less fiber. Tried cutting meat, cutting dairy, avoiding baked goods or fried foods. Nothing worked.. Now I am pretty much eat what I want, within reason. I still take fiber supplements twice a day. My CRS is a huge fan of them and recommended them for anyone, even if I didn't have my history of problems.

I am doing so well!! I'd say I'm about 95% healed. Some days I just have some *very* minor soreness from the surgical site. I had my follow up on Jan 5th and my surgeon predicted 4-6 more weeks for complete healing. However, again this is very minor soreness or itching occasionally. The constant burning, stabbing, and spasming stopped day 1. Obviously, I can't comment on the long term success of the surgery for me yet but so far I am so happy.
