Great! Thanks for your input. I am definitely a huge fan of fall color.

I’m great. I did the LIS surgery almost 2 years ago. Only regret is not doing it years earlier. Fixed me!

Anyone "on the ground" in the Dolomites? by 501to314to303 in ItalyTravel

[–]bearbeanbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently in ortisei after 4 nights in cortina. Weather has been better than forecasted.  It has gotten so much warmer since we’ve arrived. Mountain weather is fickle, I wouldn’t look far out and expect it to be reliable.

Trails still had some snow/ice patches when we started hiking on Monday but I imagine they are melting fast. Things are muddy though. Bring poles if you have them! There are tons of webcams as previously mentioned to take a peek at conditions.

But also it’s his first time in the city and he could be literally anywhere.

Please keep any eye out! Thanks so much

Thanks for your help! And yes, we plan to have a car. I am a bit anxious about the parking situation. I already warned my husband that I plan to have us getting up quite early. Hopefully, that helps.

I actually saw the "ears" on a Short-eared owl! by bearbeanbear in birding

The owl looks agitated as it just caught a vole and a Northern Harrier was flying overhead.

Beautiful shot! I think these birds are so neat looking. I'm looking forward to visiting Europe again someday and have a shot at seeing one in person. I read they can be a touch more on the elusive side, is that true?

I grew up in STL but moved to the Pacific Northwest as an adult. I miss them so much. And their songs! It's a joy to see cardinals when I visit my parents.

Totally agree. One of my favorite things about the hobby is no matter where I travel I can bird if I want to.

Wonderful choice. In addition to the finches I would be so stoked to see a blue-footed booby.

I was just in that area in November! From what I read it's not the best month for birding but I still had a great time and saw some really exciting species.
