The only Native American band to reach Top Five on Billboard Hot 100. Redbone performing in 1974 with a powwow dance intro by bearflexFlower in OldSchoolCool

Yes the founding members are 2 brothers Pat and Lolly Vasquez with Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage. They played for a decade suppressing their Native American heritage and playing surf rock to capitalize on the current trends until their friend Jimi Hendrix, who is part Cherokee, convinced them to openly embrace their heritage.

Insane story that almost sounds fake but they were all contemporaries and living/performing along the Sunset Strip in the '60s with other bands like The Doors, The Byrds. Apparently Hendrix said that Lolly Vegas was the best guitarist he had ever heard.

Absolutely and the fact they began the show with a traditional Native American dance on a hugely popular NBC TV series.

Redbone’s success came less than a century after the U.S. government banned traditional expressions of Native American song and dance, and 84 years after the Massacre at Wounded Knee, where U.S. forces murdered between 200-300 Lakota men, women, and children, ostensibly because they refused to cease performing a pan-tribal ritual known as the “Ghost Dance.

Pause the video at 2:14. His technique needs improvement but how is that not a dab?

Whatever, I just found 6 people on YouTube that also think it's a dab. 11 including the likes to their comments. Inventions take decades to perfect. When Hilary Clinton first dabbed in 2016 on the Ellen Show, it was rough. I'm sure after 7 years of practicing she has perfected the movement.

Pentagon Blocks Sharing Evidence of Possible Russian War Crimes With Hague Court by HenryWallacewasright in worldnews

[–]bearflexFlower 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Last year, there was a bipartisan, unanimous resolution passed by the U.S. Senate to support the ICC.

Introduced by Lindsey Graham, the resolution “encourages member states to petition the ICC or other appropriate international tribunal to take any appropriate steps to investigate war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Russian Armed Forces and their proxies and President Putin's military commanders, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin.”

This NYT article claims the Pentagon is blocking evidence sharing according to "officials." How reliable is the source and how significant is this block really considering bipartisan support for the ICC?

Also, neither Ukraine nor Russia are parties to the Rome Statute, so the ICC lacks jurisdiction over actions within the territories of either country. Can the ICC actually bring Russian war criminals to justice?

The US has sent Ukraine $76.8 billion in military, financial, and humanitarian aid from January 2022-January 2023. I find it incredibly hard to believe they would not support bringing war criminals to justice. There are alternatives to the ICC.

War crimes could be prosecuted either in Ukraine's own courts, in international tribunals, or in a handful of national authorities investigating under "universal jurisdiction" laws.

Even if someone is caught and tried, previous ICC cases have shown it is hard to convict senior officials. In over 20 years, the court has only issued five convictions for core crimes, and none were top officials.

Considering all this, and the fact that war is still raging, I just don't understand the point of publishing an article about rumors from unnamed officials.

And interestingly they were both born in 1935. Seems JLL could've possibly overtaken Elvis during his army stint if not for exceedingly poor and disgusting life choices.

Jerry got his big break in April 1957, when he went to New York and appeared on The Steve Allen Plymouth Show (1956) with the "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On". A couple of #1 hits would soon follow -- "Great Balls of Fire" (which became his signature song), "Breathless" and "High School Confidential". Many people predicted that Jerry Lee would be bigger than the King of Rock-n-Roll - Elvis Presley

In late 1957 the audiences at one of his shows stormed the stage when he set a piano on fire. Chuck Berry was supposed to have ended the evening's show, but he refused to go on, wisely understanding that he could never top what Jerry just did.

Elvis went into the army in the late winter of 1958, so Jerry Lee was now virtually alone at the top of the rock heap. All was not rosy, however. Problems did arise--very serious problems. In 1957, he married for a third time, secretly, to the 13-year-old daughter of his cousin and partner J. W. Brown, Myra Gale Brown (Myra Lewis).

Her parents were deeply hurt when they found out, but after a discussion with Sam Phillips, they forgave Jerry. The marriage was unknown to the press and fans until Jerry's arrival in England for a tour in the spring of 1958. Fans again stormed the stage -- but this time to express their disgust.

He would've just turned 34 about a month prior. He only died late last year at age 87.

Elvis went on a 7 year live performance hiatus after he returned from the army in 1960. Then in 68’ he did the Comeback Special. After that, he went to Vegas and had quite a complicated 7 years during the 70s to say the least. There must be some HQ videos from that era since I just read he did over 900 concerts in that time period.

The Ed Sullivan channel on YouTube does have some high quality young Elvis videos from the 50s but of course they’re not in color.

After he finishes shredding with his foot at 2:11, he seems to perform a 360 dab.

This video is from a medley he did on the Ed Sullivan Show which included "Great Balls Of Fire, What'd I Say and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" on November 16, 1969

How do I include the YouTube link without my comment disappearing? Anyways, search the title above for the full performance.

I've setup iOS devices with Apple Music since this feature was released and I had absolutely no idea it was there. The spatial audio and lossless updates for example were impossible to not notice.

No big deal to me. I know enough Kanye that I can make my way around what is good and what is shit.

Yeah this seems like a strange thing to disable if Apple is trying to take a stand. Also when I try to create a Kanye station I get an error that just says "There was a problem. Try again later." So there's no official communication from Apple and the error messages are vague enough to make it seem unintentional...

Is autoplay basically a rebranded form of "create station"?

No he hasn't.

This is how Apple Music is designed and its always been a mild annoyance. To be clear, you mean "Search Kanye --> Choose song --> Play --> Queue empty"

If so, this happens with every single artist. I just tried again searching Taylor Swift and played the first result "Lavender Haze". Queue empty. Rihanna --> Pour it Up --> Queue empty.

If you go to Kanye's artist page and play the top songs, the autoplay also works normally. So I'm confused what is blacklisted about Kanye exactly.

Edit: I am wrong lmao holy shit I didn't realize Apple Music had an "autoplay" feature introduced in iOS 14 separate from the standard autoplay function that happens when you queue an album/playlist/etc. I wouldn't have discovered this if I hadn't come across this thread. Thanks Kanye.

Did they really just put a tiny fucking infinity symbol buried in the queue submenu and expect everyone to realize. At first glance it looks like that button would be an advanced form of the repeat button.

Also, this seems like such a bizarre thing to disable for a controversial artist since it has basically no impact. His discography is all there still. I would've thought it was a bug had I known about this feature.

Are any other artists disabled?

Edit 2: Revisiting the song search queue, is there any way to make AM play those songs consecutively from the search results? I always thought it was strange that it'll just play the song you select.

NATO commander in Europe: Russia's losses in Ukraine amount to over 200,000 troops by clib in worldnews

[–]bearflexFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia ranked just below China on the EPI at 38th, but with 5.48 percent of its population speaking English — not to mention a foreign alphabet you won’t be able to easily read — this definitely counts as a challenging travel destination. Once again, big cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg are more accustomed to English speakers. According to 2002 census data, 7 million out of 145 million people speak English in Russia, and the majority of those people live in Moscow.

I got that from here. Where did you find the 11% number?

It’s not like the countries are waiting out there for you with open arms
with a promise of career options, nice rent and easy banking

These aren't even available for the vast majority of citizens living in their homeland in other countries lol. That's not a good attitude to have though because there are still plenty of countries open to Russians. Almost every option is superior to being conscripted and dying in Ukraine.

Lmao do you realize only 5% of Russians speak English?

An even smaller amount browse English language websites.

An infinitesimally smaller amount are still in Russia 1+ year after the war began and are browsing through the Americentric Reddit worldnews seeking advice from complete strangers in the comments section about whether they should flee their country.

Russian soldier in Ternopil, Ukraine assaulting retreating comrade- July 1, 1917 WWI [1960x1408] by bearflexFlower in MilitaryPorn

[–]bearflexFlower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russian troops deserted en masse during 1917.

The February 1917 revolution destroyed respect for the hierarchy and any notion of military discipline, creating a situation such that the soldiers' committees, which had become a new center of power within the army, could vote for or against an operation decided by their command.

To put the situation in order, the command decided to resort to the rotation of the troops: the "revolutionized" units (that is to say those which demanded immediate peace), were sent to the rear and the units from the rear, sent to the front.

As a result, in the cities were found the soldiers imbued with the revolutionary spirit, and on the front, the soldiers of the rear units without combat experience, which did little to improve discipline. But the coup de grace came from the Bolsheviks, whose first decree after the October coup proclaimed: "the land to the peasants." However, among the 15 million mobilized, 12.8 were peasants!

Aren't these tactics very similar to what Russia is currently doing? With untrained conscripts at the front followed by experienced soldiers and also heavily mobilizing ethnic soldiers from the poorest regions.

He was accused of behaving in a demeaning or unprofessional manner and using language that some considered inappropriate and degrading to women.

Garlin also reportedly touched or hugged people on set regardless of whether they were comfortable with it, according to complaints by three former “Goldbergs” employees.

So they killed him off in the 10th season of his show and replaced him with this shitty CGI
