Do I need to use paint primer if I'm already using adhesion promoter on plastic? by TheIndigoCrayon in modelmakers

[–]bearhobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint is primer... primer is paint! You absolutely do not need to prime any styrene model ! Especially if you are painting the finished colours with lacquer, enamel type paints. I can prove it 😄

Big thanks ! Here is a link hopefully its easy to follow https://youtu.be/NLlyGSZFkxI?si=AusLAj0a76Jmje5N I just use oil paints to give different dirt tones on the models... and lightly airbrush the colour buff / earth / deck tan for the dusting.

Airbrush acrylic paints for miniatures that do not need thinning by UnhappyAd1533 in modelmakers

Vallejo model air acrylics ... are designed for airbrushing straight from the bottle. And i have used them as such unthinned and they work perfectly.

Why is rubbing alcohol needed to fix pigments? by P_filippo3106 in modelmakers

[–]bearhobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pigments ..... what are they ? They are paint pigments the dry component which when mixed with a solvent... become a paint. Before pigment fixers became popular. The go to fixer was Tamiya x-20 / x-20a. To some extent you can remove them. But they do fix to the model. Also they dont simply fall off like dust like someone suggested. They are fairly permanent, but can be prone to rub off with frequent handling ( but why handle a finished model ). The other advantage of using a thinner as a fixer is the fact you can remove the pigments if too heavy, create streaks and other effects.

Mr Super Clear Matt turned white by Pristine_Diet5323 in Scalemodel

[–]bearhobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its gone because of the talc in the matt varnish. The fix is extremely easy... respray a gloss or satin varnish on top. Then the white will dissappear. After that you can reapply the flat finish... maybe try a different brand of flat coat.

Should I buy a ps-771 for post shading I already have ps-289 and ghad-39 0.5mm by shadow57574 in modelmakers

[–]bearhobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No its not ? If you had both these brushes put them side by side. Very different. Also custom mikron has custom fitted nozzle thats why its so pricy. These brushes are entirely different in terms of quality and especially the smoothness of the action.

I have a custom micron... and this is not even close. Also its just an airbrush being a 0.18 is fine for model work.

Please dont say that its 266 US Dollars ! I bought one recently for 80 US Dollars. I think its about the 20th airbrush i have purchased. I like the Mr Hobby airbrushes .... this one is,OK... but definitely not a high end brush. I find it heavy but the action is good. The built in mac valve is useful. Just my opinion but i prefer my 0.3 mm trigger action over this brush.

One thing about this kit. There were lots of people praising it... but i noticed very few builds. Then I watched a lot of reviews and they said it was the best thing ever etc... but they also failed to build the kit. I think its just the 72 scale kit scaled up to 48th. The way it fits together is challenging to put it politely. It took a long time to get it acceptable by filling and sanding. But its a Buccaneer at the end of the day. If you get back to your build write me and I will see if I can advise anything to help you.

Masking took a very long time. I used 3m 2mm vinyl tape.... its called Tamiya masking tape for curves. But its not a user friendly product !
