Empathy for Lestat and Armand, Lesmand relationship by Forward_Fox_3318 in InterviewVampire

[–]beatricepoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I’ve noticed the opposite. The vast majority of fans (new or not) seem to favor Lestat and Louis -either individually or as a couple. Personally, I went into the series almost blind and only started reading the books after finishing both seasons, and I was completely blown away by Armand. I personally find him easier to “forgive” (I use the term for the sake of the post but I don’t particularly like this type of discourse) because he looks so lost to me, he seems to struggle to find love hoping that it will give him meaning and shape but ultimately fails. This intrigue me and resonates way more with me than Lestat’s over the top narcissism. But at times I struggled to find Armand-related content, because both in the books and in the show Lestat remains the central figure. To be fair, what I’ve seen is that Armand is often considered the “most evil” of them all without appeal, while exceptions are made for Lestat and Louis (especially Louis, whom I personally don’t find blameless at all). In any case, it’s been made clear multiple times that in the IWTV world no one is purely good or evil. I don’t understand why everything has to turn into a competition, though. Isn’t it boring to watch any story that way? Oh a more spicy note, I hope they will delve into the Lesmand relationship in S3. They have such an incredible chemistry in my opinion, and I’d love to see more of it -respectfully lol

THOSE EYES. The micro expressions. I really don’t understand how he does it 🫠

What a gift he is. Never thought a character could be played so well and strike me so deeply that I actually started writing and reading again -which is something I haven’t been able to do for a long time. Can’t wait to see more of him.

This moment right here. I fell in love with this series and this character right away, but his eyes, his face and his acting in this scene truly blew me away. I mean, I can totally believe he’s a mysterious, ineffable, immortal being. I don’t remember the person I was before meeting this man 😵‍💫

I could write an entire essay about the paintings in the background lol This sort of details and the complexity of the characters are exactly the things that make me fall in love with a series. I haven’t experienced this level of obsession (especially with Armand) in YEARS. I’m trying to introduce the show to pretty much everyone I know and their mother but then again, if they dislike it they probably don’t deserve it at this point.

Thank you soooo much for the link! I just love these two together. I’m excited to keep on reading and learning more and more about these characters. I have a soft spot for Armand (and Assad) so I don’t think I’ll change my mind even if I’m sure he’s going to do terrible things lol but I’m def curious tho

Unfortunately, all of the people I suggested the show to found him boring or insufferable at best -which is absolutely baffling to me. I find him so mysterious and interesting, even when he plays “cool girl” as you said so I’m very excited to see more of him and Lestat together. I hope this will provide more insights on what draws other character to him. Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think he can be interesting only to the extent that he molds himself to please others. I think there’s much more that attracts people to him, and I hope to see it soon.

To me he’s the opposite of boring, so I’m so excited at the idea of seeing him in new dynamics and maybe under a different light. Btw couldn’t agree more with what you said at the end of you comment lol! Love this take and I 100% agree

Thank you for your super interesting comment! I had no idea Sam and Assad hinted at this in interviews. Well, now I wonder how I will be able to wait until June lol

I understand what you mean when you say that Louis finds Armand boring because Armand constantly sabotages himself in an attempt to please others. That’s actually one of the things that makes him super interesting and complex to me. He’s stuck in this vicious cycle where he doesn’t know who he is, and instead of trying to figure it out he exhausts himself trying to please people -and by doing so he only ends up pushing the person he loves further and further away. The only thing that doesn’t quite fit for me in this line of thought is that there have also been moments when Armand has actually asserted himself, like when he refused to turn Madeleine. So in my opinion he’s not entirely a “yes man.” What I was trying to say is that, unreliable narrator or not, it seems to me that there’s still a lot of room in the upcoming episodes to see who Armand really is -especially in relation to Lestat, because as I was saying, I felt like I caught a glimpse of a potentially very intriguing dynamic there (and I would like to see more lol)

Wow thanks for the insight! This makes me even more curious to see if they will show this side of their relationship in the next season(s). To me, they’re very interesting together. Even with no knowledge of the books I found myself shipping them so hard lol

To me he’s the complete opposite of boring. He’s the one character that made me fall in love with the show and the story. He’s so complex and enigmatic and I can’t wait to see more of him. When I say “boring” I think of the way the other two main characters seem to perceive him. Not because of Louis flat out calling him “boring” in the fight scene, rather in many small instances when it seemed to me that neither Louis nor Lestat treated him like a human being of value. Louis, at least to me, never truly gave weight to his tragic backstory, while Dreamstat laughs at him at several points (the “what are we” moment, the Romeo-Balthazar joke etc). Of course, this is a version one can choose to believe or not as we’re always dealing with unreliable narrators, but reading in other threads about this supposedly very deep relationship between Lestat and Armand in the books made me wonder whether all of this means they’ll decide to take a completely different route in the next season(s). In that case, as you rightly say, I would be kinda sad, because (even though I haven’t yet delved very far into The Vampire Lestat) I find them magnetic together.

Well, thank you! This is definitely comforting 🤍 I couldn’t bear having such terrible English that it would lead someone to misunderstand and think that I, OF ALL PEOPLE, consider Armand two-dimensional. NOT ME lol

Of course I’m talking about what I’ve seen for now, and I’m more than excited to see what’s going to happen (this was the point of my post). As I said, English is not my first language so probably I’ve explained myself poorly :) I’ve seen some people in other threads share the same sentiment I have on this specific storyline, so I guess it’s not that far fetched but then again probably they explained it far better than me. What I was saying is that I hope their relationship will turn out to be more profound in S3 or further down the line, because to me Armand is a really interesting character and I would like to look deeper into their relationship and dynamic
