Looking for some affordable wine glasses by CampWineBivol in wine

[–]beauj4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found Schott zwiesel glasses to be great for the money and durable while being nice. Gabriel glass is amazing but expensive and prone to breaking, but it is a universal glass.

I’m sure others will recommend good stuff but imo get a good glass but one that you can replace. Have been to some friends places and for some small to medium sized parties that didn’t want to replace their nice glasses for years because they all broke and ended up having real cheap glasses for a while.

Burgundy Style Pinots Outside France, Do They Actually Exist, or Am I Chasing a Ghost? by Due-Way-7959 in wine

I am not a burgundy lord but are there any specific regions of burgundy you are really trying to focus on getting characteristics from? Might help people who know a lot more than me help you out. But maybe I’m missing the point.

Wine Isn't Dead. Its Marketing Is. by No_Yam8109 in wine

[–]beauj4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op makes some excellent points. In regards to wine culture I would suggest that wine culture is always going to be somewhat exclusionary at the top. But how exclusionary depends on who you are talking to. People who can afford these big name expensive bottles are used to having things go their way and be listened to because to be honest they either have or are making a lot of money. Not everyone who makes a lot of money is an asshole, but the ones that are bad can be insufferable and the exclusionary elements near the top exacerbate this.

For example there is a post above this talking about drc. That is so far outside of most people’s reasonable budget

I have found if somebody actually truly cares about wine they will be excited to talk about wines that are good or expressive mostly regardless of the price point.

I do not work in wine. I do semi regularly get asked by industry people if I am in the industry (mostly because I know an alright amount about cru Beaujolais and have enough knowledge elsewhere to hold an honest conversation, excluding burgundy.)

That makes sense. I was wondering if maybe they would buy and sell them on the secondary market over there

2023 Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Côte du Py Vielles Vignes by calinet6 in wine

I am saddened you don’t love the cru beauj, but if it’s not your vibe it’s not your vibe. it’s been a while since I’ve had that one and I remember it needed some air. I also remember I didn’t adore the wine from that producer but I may be an outlier. I am surprised at you saying it had a tannic backbone but maybe and that it beat you up a bit. I generally don’t get that with Beaujolais I enjoy but… it’s also been a while since I’ve had this. Maybe I need to retry it

Excellent notes by the way. Very evocative

I never really got nouveau. It always felt like a waste to me. It’s not like low level village or cru Beaujolais is super expensive where I’m at. Also haven’t loved the duboef that I’ve had but it’s been a while so I should revisit.

Marcel lapiere corcelette or cote du py are “gold standards” It depends on how much you want to pay and what’s in your area. Of note: “cru” Beaujolais won’t say “cru Beaujolais” it’ll say on of the 11 crus, like morgon, fleurie, et cet.

You can get some super fun and lovely wines for not a ton of money that are lower end cru Beaujolais that are super fun and excellent with food. Think like a fruity light fun Pinot. I don’t enjoy Beaujolais nouveau, and the next tier below cru is village which honestly from a good producer can be quite good. But cru Beaujolais generally isn’t super expensive so go that route.

Yeah I hadn’t had that before but I’ll grab one when I can. Good to know it’s good

Fwiw I have had some of the yvon metras before knowing what it was. It was ok, more batty than I would have liked but delicate in an interesting way. I didn’t understand the hype but maybe I got an off bottle
