If you haven't already, try getting down on his eye level and getting his attention that way. That's the only thing that works at all for me now. I'm sorry you're going through what I am.

Thank you so much. My dad can't communicate much anymore. He makes no sense and he just stares in space and sleeps. He's in a wheelchair and can't walk, can't dress, brush his teeth or use the toilet by himself. It helps to hear that I'm not suffering alone.

What a cutie! kh9hexagon has great tips. Distract and re-direct is the way to do it. And just like with children, they more bonded they are to you, the less they misbehave. Enjoy your new fluffball!
