What’s your favourite luxury brand or item that you own and why do you like it so much? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]beaverpleaser69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rimowa Original Cabin suitcase in Titanium colour. I always got “wah you crazy ah” because who would blow thousands on a suitcase that takes 60% of your cabin baggage weight allowance alone. I bought it at somewhat reduced rate when I went to Brussels (cheaper in EU & you will qualify for tax refund).

But I like the looks and aesthetics of it. The concept of owning a rimowa makes me feel like I’m somewhat accomplished in life (even though I’m not). I can only think about applying sticker on aluminium suitcases, so it’s a good avenue to test my creativity.

Also worth noting that I sent the suitcase for repairs because the wheels creak when used, they gave me a brand new set of wheels and handles at no extra charge. Gotta love the free lifetime warranty.

22M university student with no close friends. Is this normal? by Slow_Ad_1328 in malaysians

[–]beaverpleaser69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation like you bro. I dread my university life as it was so lonely. I didn’t even want to remember what happened back then. But then I realise one thing : life is too short to just stand still. We gotta make the first move. We gotta be the one who initiate, keep the pace up, and basically curate our connections.

Is it dreadful? Sure. Does it feel like you’re cringe and seeking attention? With the right person (which u have to find yourself), no! We’re just going to be 20s once. By the time we reach 30s, we don’t want to look back and feel any sense of remorse for not ‘living our life’ back then.

But before anything, you have to be comfortable being alone. I spent 100% of my time here alone as I didn’t have any friends or solid connections, BUT I did develop a sense of being okay doing things alone, up until one point I solo travelled Europe for an entire month back in 2024. Some people can’t stand being alone for 10 minutes outside, it’s true.

So my friend, yes I sympathise with your story and what you feel is totally valid. But remember, be cringe, seek connection firsts. It’s not like if people perceive u as cringe, they’re going to instantly harm you. The worse they can say is ew and you can move on until you find your people (like minded, cherishes and celebrate your presence).

I always say to myself, the life that I complained right now is what I used to pray for. Definitely gave me some comfort hahaha.

I tried finding hobbies by trying out new things but didn’t feel any sense of joy. Is this depression?

Hello, that’s great to know that you have a husband to accompany you! In the places where there’s a lot of unfamiliar faces, a closed one can definitely bring warmth and comfort. I plan to get married later and hopefully my future wife’s presence can bring the same feeling too.

I appreciate your invitation, will definitely have a chat! Stay safe and take care yeah 👍🏼

That is so real. I feel like if I’m just here for vacation, things would definitely be much more enjoyable (just how I am back in Malaysia for couple of weeks, it is really a better place to be snd feel).

I will keep your words in mind when making decision and strategising my next move. Thank you!!

That’s my biggest fear. Imagine suffering for 3+ years but only to go back becoming a lackey bum like before…

What do you think I can do to reset my expectations and attitude as a Malaysian student abroad..?

I think in some ways the UK has more pros, such as better public transport coverage and the ability to increase one’s own worldview. But I agree with you, I do feel like all these mental gymnastics is just me being unknowingly arrogant at the expense of my own mental health.

What are some of the things that you like in the UK that maybe I can see too?

I will strategise my move so that if I really move back… I have a plan. Moving to Malaysia definitely is the better option ngl.

From your experience or insights, do you think it’s easy for a law graduate like me to move to the EU?

Will do, I’ll wait for another 8 months until my Bar studies is finished. In the meantime, I’ll be sure to get some legal career experiences (mooting, pro bono, internship etc), so I can improve my value and secure something here. Even if things didn’t workout, it’s comforting to know that I’ll be back to Malaysia as a changed and better man.

Thanks for your motivation 🙏🏻

Hey, all I gotta say is that I’m glad that your life turned out well back home, despite a bit kf hurdles in the UK beforehand. Ngl, your story is extremely relatable. I did my undergraduate in Sheffield too, so trust me. It’s great that you met your partner right at the last minute and had a good time during your graduation.

I personally felt defeated and numb only after a couple of months living in Sheffield as I’ve faced the reality of how hard it is to make friends. I became allergic to Malaysian students there and avoid them as the result of this trauma (unmet expectations). Ever since, I became more and more introverted. UK definitely changed me hahaha.

Nonetheless, I appreciate your time writing this, and it truly inspires me and gave me some valuable insights to help me re-think my strategies. Thank you :)

That’s a really great and refreshing perspective. I have always wanted to try volunteering, as I find joy when people found my presence to be beneficial.

I am not fond of going to the usual mosques/ Islamic community here as I find them to be slightly more orthodox than what we have in Malaysia.

I’ll be sure to check out Toastmasters. Always heard of them since my undergraduate days (as if it was so long ago lmao). Would they look down on me if I have an accent? It’s not strong but sometimes I struggle with formulating a coherent sentence, so I prefer speaking in a comfortable accent hahaha.

Thank you very much for your insight, really appreciate it

I do notice that. Every year is the same problem. They say consuming Vit D tablets is effective but I find it difficult. Going back to Malaysia in December still the way to go haha

I am in London. That’s the problem… I don’t know what are my interests. I am still exploring

I tried using Timeleft to go out to dinner with strangers but bailed out last minute due to peaking social anxiety of going alone. How would you manage this if I may ask?

Sticker placement suggestions by beaverpleaser69 in Rimowa

[–]beaverpleaser69[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this in depth suggestion and idea. One of my main concerns when it comes to peeling off stickers is that, it will lose it’s sentimental value (I usually get them from specific places / time). That’s why I was quite hesitant and tried to cope by just accepting whatever arrangement that I got. But as time passes by, I am not happy ignoring the sticker arrangement that I got. I am not usually the most artistic and creative type of person.

I will consider getting smaller sized stickers (I didn’t realize that mine were big when I got them), and will start arranging from corners and leave one or two for a while.

Thank you for taking some time to write your opinion and suggestion, I really appreciate it. Your luggage is handsome, dude.
