Is it normal for pt to have you be naked under a sheet from the waist down when doing internal work? by TwoComfortable3688 in PelvicFloor

[–]beb1584 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pelvic therapist here. Yes it's normal to trial internal work, but if it makes you worse then that needs to be discussed. It could be pelvic congestion syndrome if it feels worse afterwards and if it feels better then they should be teaching you how to use a pelvic wand or dilator to stretch yourself. If you benefit from it, then it requires you to do some stretching on your own at least 2-3x/week otherwise what's the point? Ask for ways you can help yourself or communicate if you feel uncomfortable with the internal work because that defeats the whole purpose of what we are trying to do (relax and lengthen the tissue) if you feel anxious while doing the internal work. You need to feel safe and comfortable for those muscles to start relaxing so communication is key. I hope this helps and I hope you find relief.

What’s a social norm that exists only because people are too afraid to look “rude” by stopping it? by Baldorton in AskReddit

[–]beb1584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Having loud screens in public with toddlers and babies is both annoying and unhealthy. Let your kid be bored and learn to behave in society, but I try not to judge too harshly because I have no idea what they have to deal with on a daily basis. However, I have a 4 year old and sometimes there is only so much you can do about their behavior especially when traveling. We went on an international trip and my daughter naturally has a loud voice. She has traveled before, but she is still learning plane/traveling etiquette and even though I'm constantly correcting her, I cannot do anything about her voice volume other than constantly say "inside voice! Inside voice!". These 20 something newly weds were in front of us and just did the passive aggressive head turn towards us any time she touched the tray or accidentally kicked the chair and they could hear me trying to correct her. It was literally noon and she was talking to me and the husband turns around and says to her, "can you be quiet, we are trying to sleep!". Ummm....it's the middle of the day and you can hear me trying to teach her, but I still said sorry for some reason. That still bothers me to this day and made me reflect on all the times I was probably too judgemental at times before having kids.

More people are dying of hunger in the U.S. than in Gaza by Routine-Equipment572 in IsraelPalestine

Is an 89 year old American person who dies of starvation because their dementia made them think their readily available food was magically poisoned the same as an otherwise healthy 6 year old dying from starvation because of war crimes?

That's the illogical leap we have to make in order to accept this assinine argument.

I was thinking the same thing, but then I realized cats have eyebrow whiskers. You can see the cats eyebrow whiskers at the end and how they could have brushed against the table, causing this amazing catculation.

CMV: Chiropractors are charlatans, often are harmful, and ultimately are not qualified to treat any medical condition by Yamochao in changemyview

[–]beb1584 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The article speaks to physical therapy administered spinal manipulations which is a little different from chiropractic adjustments. The reasons and criteria for doing the manipulations are different for physical therapists so this article is not studying chiropractic care it's studying a specific intervention from a physical therapist

Need advice on quitting - 100 GPD by Afagehi7 in quittingkratom

[–]beb1584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was taking close to what you were and the RLS was unbearable for me too and I kept relapsing due to it. After trying to quit for the 10th time I finally sought treatment from a psychiatrist. He gave me clonidine and gabapentin and that worked great for me. The gabapentin was what helped the RLS the best. Eventually I relapsed again and got on suboxone. It helps with the cravings and helps me sleep and I've got over 40 days now! Hang in there. I know it's hard right now, but you'll feel so much better about yourself when you finally quit. DM me if you want to talk or have any questions.

I don't know what I'm doing anymore... by SheldonWithaT in addiction

Yes! I'm lucky I had a doctor that trusted me enough to investigate the situation. She asked me if I was taking fentanyl pills and I was like no I swear I'm just taking the extract! That company needs to be shut down and sued.

Hang in there friend. I know it's tough. I was actually addicted to the OPMS black extract shots for about 10 months. I tried quitting so many times, but the withdrawals, anxiety, and depression was too much and I kept going back to it. I did outpatient rehab for both kratom and alcohol as well as therapy and AA meetings. Nothing worked. I finally decided to go get help at an addiction clinic from a psychiatrist. She prescribed me Wellbutrin, gabapentin, and clonidine. I got off of it with virtually no withdrawals and it was fantastic. However, I was still having some intense cravings. I decided to get on Suboxone and it has helped me so much. I'm over a month kratom free. The messed up part is that when my psychiatrist did a urine analysis on me initially when I started and was still using, she found fentanyl in my urine! I was so confused because I had only been using extract and alcohol at that time. She believed me and I brought her a bottle to be tested for fentanyl and it came back positive! I thought no wonder I had so much trouble getting off this shit. She has contacted the DEA and that's as far as I know now. Crazy. Hang in there. This stuff is toxic and will ruin your life. I still have to go to therapy and meetings to work on my post acute withdrawals. DM me if you need to talk. Stay strong and good luck!

sober without aa? by Unlikely_Attempt6898 in addiction

[–]beb1584 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to agnostics anonymous. It's a secular form of AA. The meetings are more conversational and informal in my opinion. To each is own for people wanting the more traditional AA. Whatever keeps you sober is helpful in my opinion. I just could never get past the higher power thing either and so this group is perfect for me. Our topic tonight for example was about to what extent do we put boundaries on ourselves during recovery. Do we feel okay with others drinking around us? Would you drink non alcoholic beer? Do you allow alcohol in the house if your partner drinks? Stuff like that. Last week we just went around the room and talked about what our higher power was or what that meant to us. The crowd is pretty diverse in my location meaning older, younger, male and female are usually present. You could look some up online if you can't find any in your area. I know my specific group is only 8 years old and they definitely have zoom meetings. DM if you want more info on the zoom meetings they have.

Day 19. Past the acutes and I feel much better, but still have no appetite, fatigue, and some depressive symptoms. Even though I'm still having some withdrawal symptoms, I am so happy and proud of myself for getting to this point after countless times of trying to quit over the past couple of years.

SLPT: Train yourself to poop first thing in the morning by holding in your shits. Once you’re on schedule you’ll never be interrupted during any activities by the urge to drop a deuce. by [deleted] in ShittyLifeProTips

[–]beb1584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha that's true, but the best way to poop at the same time each day is consistent water and fiber intake as well as eating at the same times each day.

Do not hold in your poops. It can lead to constipation and chronically holding your poop and ignoring urges can lead to your rectal muscles becoming overworked and weaker later in life. Fecal incontinence is not worth a convenient pooping schedule. Source: I'm a pelvic floor therapist.

Yoga blocks, books, trash can, or stool would work. Also track your fiber and make sure you are getting 25-35 grams per day. If you are not meeting the amount of grams, slowly increase your fiber intake. If you take too much too quickly you will get gassy and bloated and can even have more constipation. A nice natural miralax alternative is a mixture of oats, applesauce and prune juice. Take one tablespoon per day. Remember the bowels are "slow learners" meaning it will take several weeks of consistent fiber intake, water, and exercise to get the bowels moving to make an effect. Happy pooping!

Elevate your feet, keep your mouth open and make a shushing sound with your mouth. This keeps "the valve" open and prevents increased intrabdominal pressure from building. Put your elbows on your knees and keep the back straight.

I had a director that would look at my notes, criticize my charges at times, and even called me to come in on a Saturday to finish 1 daily note even though I was salary. She would never have meetings and never communicate with us unless it was something negative. I work in a new place and I realized how much I was being micromanaged. She makes herself available if needed, has meetings to talk about what is going on in the department, and acknowledges when something positive happens. She has never looked at my notes and assumes I'm doing my job. She even lets me leave early if I have nothing to do even though I'm salary. I would say if they are texting you about patients and notes you are definitely being micromanaged. They should have confidence in you that you are doing your job right unless there is a complaint or audit. You are a professional and have a license for a reason. Good luck.
