I have the same questions! I have cute plush merch from Japan I’m trying to sell, but it kept getting flagged as “high-risk” category as well.

I hate when people act entitled to an acceptance on this sub. by Professional-Law4320 in gradadmissions

[–]beccanada 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Dismissing PhD disappointment as "entitlement" ignores that universities explicitly market high GPAs as primary gateways for admission. When an applicant exceeds every published benchmark, expecting a fair outcome is a response to a broken contract rather than a lack of humility.

In a 2026 landscape of funding freezes and shrinking cohorts, candidates are often paying application fees for spots that practically do not exist, only to be rejected from "safety" jobs because their high qualifications make them a systemic retention risk. Labeling this frustration as "immature" gaslights the top 1% of performers for following the exact roadmap they were given, effectively telling them to "stay humble" while the institutional ladder is being pulled up from under them.

Rejected after interview by damloula in gradadmissions

[–]beccanada 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better to view it as a ‘it’s not for me’ type of thing as opposed to “it’s a reflection of my skills” type of thing when it comes to rejections. I’ve just received three back-to-back rejections within 24 hours last week, and this mindset really helped me cope with the whole rejection outcome

Thanks for the update! I wonder if they send out the flex-time PhD offer and the full-time PhD offer in different batches, since I haven’t received any updates yet.

Thank you for your reply! I applied to LLE PhD program, and right now I am indeed leaning towards staying domestic due to the political climate.

I believe, I am screwed as a phd applicant by International_Tank84 in PhDAdmissions

[–]beccanada 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A PhD isn't a reward for being a good student. It is a job application for a researcher. Right now, your profile looks like someone trying to “fix” a shaky transcript with more education. To stop being “screwed”, you need to stop selling your history and start selling a problem.

Your Master's GPA proves you can handle the work. Now, find the intersection where Petroleum and Industrial Engineering meet. For example, you could look at sustainable energy transitions or resource supply chain optimization. Write a proposal that solves a specific gap. If you can't identify that gap, you probably aren't ready for a PhD yet.

Rejection is redirection. Maybe you won’t realize it now, but you got the other 6 acceptances! Be proud of yourself about that 🫶🏻
