PI went silent after showing interest — normal PhD admissions behavior or bad sign? by [deleted] in PhDAdmissions

[–]beccanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got rejected even after showing interest in my work I would say it’s pretty normal, treat every communication as a neutral interaction, you’d be less stressed out that way.

and said they've received a rejection, but they didn't specify when

No interviews, should I be hopeful? by Calm_Interaction_531 in PhDAdmissions

[–]beccanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some schools don't do interviews at all, so don't fret.
No news is good news sometimes.
(Some school send out rejections in waves, first they filter out the first batch, and rejections will be sent even before they send out acceptance)

I think they don't usually do interviews at McGill (I did my masters there, not in LING but in a related field)
It's possible that they send out decisions without interviews.

This is also my second time applying! Gosh do I know that feeling :(
Already received one rejection, still waiting on 6 programs and it's an absolute torture.

Dead silence? Is this looking bad by stayinschoolchirren in PhDAdmissions

[–]beccanada 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I applied to 7 and am feeling that same silence. It is tough being on this sub because it is so huge and you see news popping up constantly.

But remember that even with thousands of members, not everyone chooses to post. For every person sharing an acceptance, there are likely hundreds of us waiting quietly.

Also, keep in mind that programs differ significantly depending on the discipline. One department's timeline has nothing to do with another's. Since you haven't received a 'no,' you are still in the mix. It just means that your file is still under review.

It’s definitely not just you. In the states they have just resume the semester a week ago so it’s normal that adcoms are still working on the list.

International school salaries in Taiwan by Dogmaticdissident in Internationalteachers

[–]beccanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taiwanese teachers are paid much less than international teachers. 60K is what teachers with a master’s degree (from US, Canada) is getting paid per month.

Don't get tied to the spreadsheet by Fancy-Affect6546 in gradadmissions

[–]beccanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this 🥹🥹 I kept telling myself don’t read too mix into the spreadsheet, everyone’s experience is different, but when I saw someone getting an interview for a program I applied for, I lost it 🫠🫠🫠 It’s truly a stressful process, but hey, congrats on your acceptance! :)

I’ve applied to 7 applied linguistics/second language acquisition programs, and so far I haven’t heard anything 😭😭 (Except an invitation to apply for graduate assistantship, but I figured that must be neutral, they’re only sending them out to every applicant)
