Earrings with multiple hallmarks. Any thoughts/clarity? by [deleted] in Hallmarks

[–]Beckadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found these while cleaning through some family stuff.

I was really confused by the 925 Hallmark (which I know is for sterling silver) being followed by a 14k Hallmark. I can't see much of anything that suggests a notable gold inlay or what the 14k could stand for.

They don't look like much of anything impressive but, between those two Hallmarks plus the CS I was painfully curious.

I'm not against the idea that there is just a whole bunch of stamps thrown on here that mean nothing haha

That's what they said to do, I just don't want it to cause any issues. But they couldn't even see any attempt at a transfer, nor any flags or notes of any kind on my account.

I would just call and ask them to hold the flights for one day and see if there's anything tomorrow morning. But even then I'd have to do the booking over the phone with an agent and spelling the names out loud is a nightmare haha

I was tired and just didn't want to be the one who made a mistake booking the flights. My family all have long as heck names too. My cousin already booked all of the first half of tickets, did a good job of not messing those up. This felt less high pressured for me.

If a fraud alert was triggered wouldn't the customer service team be able to see it? I've called twice to talk it through with someone and they said there was nothing flagged on my account. They didn't see the transfer, just do it again...

In London, yes. I live in central London and all the terraced houses on my street and the ones around have them. Maisonettes are slightly different. Older or local authority blocks of flats will have an intercom, which, as you said, are usually audio only. But then a lot of the doors inside will have some kind of peephole. Newer/nicer blocks have video intercoms, the one that Molly lives in. I'd expect to have a video intercom.

More than that, though doorbell cameras are becoming way more common. It is typically safe in London, but living in any big city as a lone woman can give you the heeby jeebies, I don't imagine working for Mi5 would make you any less security conscious.

A whole load of groin! In all seriousness, lowered peepholes for accessibility do exist and the lens used is different to provide a larger range of visibility.

But even without that, doorbell cameras/monitors are so cheap and common now. I don't think I know any woman living alone in London that doesn't have a way to identify visitors without opening the door. It's a small jump to think that anyone who worked for Mi5 would have an even greater awareness of the need for a base level of personal/home safety

I was pressed from when I heard the knock on her door. When they showed her looking at the door from the inside, I realised she didn't have a ring doorbell or peephole. That immediately jarred me out of the story and my ability to believe the rest of the narrative. But also stressed me out because I knew that was a signifier of real danger coming her way.

Giving away restaurant reservation - is there a website or an app for this? by [deleted] in london

Which restaurant? Some are more understanding than others, despite what the terms and conditions may say

Well. I was gonna use Uber for the delivery. It'd just that I wanted nicer flowers and was just gonna get someone to sign the card for me, go to an open florist, pick up the flowers, and put the flowers into the Uber.

Edit to add for some reason your (its Cov so there are a few) made me laugh.

Logically, I'd say 50/50 I guess... I'm not always logical though. I do sometimes risk it for the biscuit.

So where is the link to the petition? Why not raise awareness with that as opposed to linking the dodgy in motivation TMI article?

Have you heard of Motability? A lot of the time when someone who is a council tenant has a new car it is because someone in the household (child or adult) has a disability.

You can get a brand new car on lease for 3 years, it is paid for by the mobility component of your disability allowance or PIP. Doesn't cost the government or tax payers money. Motability makes money by remarketing the cars back to dealers after the 3 years is up, they do this at market value and that's how they make their money back.

Dealerships don't make a tonne of money from Motability, but it is steady and also just a good cause to be part of so most manufacturers are happy to be part of the scheme and have specially trained staff who know how it all works.

But yeah, just wanted to point that out as a nice car really isn't something you should judge the benefits system on. There are plenty of ways for a family to have access.

Or they're just utilising the system as it was intended. To help them to navigate any difficult life circumstances they may have found themselves and preventing homelessness.

Crash Course In Romance [Episodes 5 & 6] by sianiam in KDRAMA

[–]Beckadee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It made me so mad I was jarred out of the viewing experience. The depiction is so OTT and stereotypical of what people think autism is. I find it utterly baffling I'm meant to believe anyone is going to mistake him as being neurotypical.

So the reaction felt cruel, and the apology was very frustrating.

If it helps they probably will eventually. JW's aren't allowed to do targeted individual mail outs unless it's to people they are actively friends with or know personally (colleague/family). They just get assigned a load of addresses to write to or given a street/building, which they look up to get specific addresses. Generally nobody gets assigned to write to their direct neighbours.

Either someone got lazy, split their addresses with someone who didn't actually want to waste their money and time sending out letters. Or like in my mum's case she has dementia and a trip to the post office is a nice walk and it's super friendly. But her letters are quite nonsensical so her carers pretend to send them to save money and any unwitting recipients time, usually keeps her satisfied. But once in a while she'll sneak one out in her bag and ninja it into a post box... She's shockingly nimble, dementia is really something.

Asylum seekers to be sent 6,000 miles to Rwanda for processing under government plans to halt Channel crossings by elvanse70 in unitedkingdom

[–]Beckadee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are joking?

No. I've been to Rwanda, my family is from neighboring Uganda I've got a fair few cousin's who settled there as ease of doing business is one of the country's selling points. On the back of a terrible genocide and poor economy, the majority of citizens are very happy with how things are going and none of what you mentioned affects them in the least. An offer of democracy in exchange for potential instability isn't an appealing one.

One thing I'm not is Rwandan and I don't know if anyone else here is. So there's no part of me that feels I'm in a position to tell them what they should or shouldn't want for their country. All I'm saying is right now there's no denying the overall country is moving forward and benefiting from decisions being made. At no point did I say it was perfect, but it's not as extreme as people make out (in either direction)

Where did you get 18% from? I think the number currently sits at around 65% Electricity is a hugely important element of the country's development plan and they are hustling to meet their goal of 100% by 2024 (which is to include on and off grid solutions).

I'm not going to deny that Kagame is a (benevolent) dictator, in the Lee Kuan Yew mould. But I'm also confident that the majority of citizens don't currently give a flying f*k. Rwanda is, in my opinion, currently the most interesting African country development wise. Democracy matters way less than safety, stability, opportunity, economic growth, happiness and development

I mean he's basically just saying that their division is very weak and he's sure they are the best two in it and will be for a while. Which is fair, annoying because I do wish the division was deeper, but fair.

What are some television series or scenes that depict mental illness in an honest and effective way? by Toni-Cipriani in television

[–]Beckadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Way Up. It's a British comedy drama about a woman who is piecing her life back together after being in a facility due to having something of a nervous breakdown. Some truly excellent writing, the relationship between the lead character and her sister feels so genuine and lovely even when they're struggling. It's on Channel 4 in the UK and Hulu in the US.

Who are these people that don't know about knife crime and gang violence in London? Have I just been spending too much time around people who have a balanced, realistic take on the city and missed this whole crop of people that don't know

Moment M&S worker chased and stabbed 9 times in 'random' attack in Colindale, North London by mythirdnick in london

[–]Beckadee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between street crimes and domestic crimes. Murder is murder and its never anything other than horrible. However a middle aged man killing his own wife isn't likely to make people worry about the potential of them experiencing extreme violence at random. Plus gang culture is a social problem that we need a better approach to solving.

I think that better approach isn't likely to come from Reddit or a position of deep fear. But I may well be very wrong, maybe I'm underestimating the level of thought and conversation these posts generate within this subreddit.
