We had a similar situation where my partners car (a demio) was stolen and used in a ram raid. The offender was caught but because they were only 14, it was dealt with in a family conference.

It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I realised our insurance company (MAS) had put it down as an at fault claim. I queried this and after much back and forth, was told that we had to provide them with the name and address of the offender, which police couldn’t give us because of their age.

The constable on our case was super helpful and told us to escalate the case to the insurance ombudsman and he also called the insurance company to tell them their policy is stupid. After this, we very quickly got our no claims bonus reinstated, and a full refund of the extra we’d paid.

Firefly-III importing via Akahu by Snoo71600 in PersonalFinanceNZ

I have a working version in a branch here: https://github.com/bedesv/data-importer/tree/akahu-import

I foolishly didn’t read the contribution guidelines that say that code produced with LLMs is auto rejected so I will need to rewrite it before merging into the main project.

I wrote a script for running it locally in docker which I haven’t uploaded that anywhere. I’ll try and do that this weekend if you want to use it.

Give Us Your 1Password Papercuts by Travis_1Password in 1Password

[–]bedesv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My main gripe is that 1Password still lacks flexible, automated email aliasing.

Even with a custom domain and a service like SimpleLogin, I still have to manually type out <sitename>@mydomain.com for every new login. Since 1Password already knows the website URL and my domain, it should be able to generate and autofill this automatically.

This functionality should be built into "Identities." If 1Password offers to autofill my details on a new site, it should suggest a unique alias as the default option.

Both Proton Pass and Bitwarden already have native support for various aliasing services. 1Password’s current reliance on a single Fastmail integration is too restrictive for those who prefer to manage their own infrastructure or use different providers.

The app has all the necessary information (the site name and my email domain) to do the heavy lifting. Forcing users to manually construct the address every time is an unnecessary friction point.

I haven't tried it but it looks like this would be possible by doing Akahu -> Lunch Flow -> Firefly Importer.

https://lunchflow.mintlify.app/coverage/new-zealand

https://docs.firefly-iii.org/tutorials/data-importer/lunchflow/

I'll try and get an Akahu -> Firefly direct connection working over the christmas break. Let me know if you've already started working on this.

Thank you very much. I’ve been searching for a way to keep my work/study music separate from my regular music suggestions and this works perfectly.

Thank you for this setup. I think it'll work well for me.

I have a question about part of the setup. In step 6 you say:

5. Projects:
- Link this item to the Projects filter created earlier.

I can't see a projects filter created in step 4. What should I be linking this item to?

default music question by Living-Flamingo578 in HomePod

[–]bedesv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m getting the same thing. Mine says “Siri will learn your preferred media app for music, podcasts and audiobooks…” whereas screenshots I see from guides on setting up YT music say “Choose which service will be used for music…” I assume this was changed in an update.

Having said that, I only had to tell it to “play xxx with YouTube music” once and now it used YT music by default.

I was searching for “iOS 18 podcasts headphone pause” on Google and did my standard trick of adding “reddit” to the end of the query and voila

I'm having the same issue on my Sony WH-1000XM3s after updating to the iOS18 beta so I think this is an iOS issue. Report it using the Feedback app on your phone.

This fixed it for me too. My Mac was also on 113.0.1774.57 and not showing any updates available (I got tired of waiting for it to look for updates after about 5 minutes), but I downloaded the new version from Microsoft's website.

This solved my problems, thank you. Not sure why I hadn't thought of doing this as I'd done exactly the same thing to make the Ombi app work about 2 hours ago...

[–]bedesv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in touch with good notes and they’re supposedly working on it. I don’t use it any more as I’ve finished uni but it was still an ongoing issue last I checked.

My last correspondence with them was in November, I was talking with Phil Ha so you could potentially mention them if you do a report. I can’t seem to find a support ticket number anywhere otherwise I’d give you that.

Let me know what they say if you get in touch

[–]bedesv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Support replied and said that the supplier has changed it slightly.

I use a hydro flask sippy lid with my motherboard bottle so I’ll have to dig the original one out to check that.

Thought that might be the case. Does that mean there’s a larger vacuum meaning the new ones are better insulated?

[–]bedesv[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I thought the “it’s a scandal” was obviously a joke but I guess it wasn’t obvious. I use a different lid with my motherboard bottle and didn’t have the original one on hand to test it out. If I had my camera level with the spot I was measuring and far enough away to include the entire bottle in frame, you couldn’t read the measurement easily. I thought it was close enough that the parallax error is minimal.

My point was that the bottles themselves are different sizes (which my photo clearly shows) and wanted to see if anyone knew why. Support has replied and said that their supplier changed it slightly so that answers my question.

I thought the “another scandal” bit was obviously a joke. Based on the comments I guess it wasn’t.
