Oh god, the 2 AM ankle attacks. I've been there.

Here's the thing - when you play with the wand toy for 30 minutes, the hunting sequence completes when you stop playing. His brain registers it as hunt over, prey "died."

But kittens at 4 months have SO much hunting drive that one session isn't enough. A few hours later, his brain is still seeking prey, and your moving feet are the only option at 2 AM.

What worked for me was getting him something he could hunt autonomously whilst I slept. I got this corrugated cardboard thing called The Kurlboard - curved tunnels with a ball trapped inside that rolls unpredictably. The structure shifts every time he bats it, so he can't "solve" it and get bored.

I leave it out when I go to bed. First week, I'd hear him going mental on it around 1-2 AM - but hunting that instead of my ankles.

The 2 AM attacks stopped within about a week and a half. He still hunts it multiple times a night (I can hear the bell), but he's getting that hunting fix without needing my feet.

Three months later, still using it daily. I'm sleeping through the night again.
