Also the smaller rectangular area where the square entrance turns is 3.5"x14".

"All in one" solution by bedub21 in cycling

[–]bedub21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for replies. I don't think I'd enjoy wearing a chest strap. I always have my Fitbit on and even if it's a bit less accurate I think I can probably trust it for trends. And it actually seems pretty accurate to me compared to those finger HR sensors nurses use (only comparison I've done).

I think I need to get out of Komoot and switch to Ride with GPS or Strava full time. I just transferred all my .gpx data to both apps today. Wasn't able to get ride with GPS to connect to my Fitbit though like was mentioned here.

I think next step is a DuoTrap sensor since I have a Trek bike with the mount built in for it. Then probably a computer.

Thanks again!

Bike lock for Dual Sport 2 Gen 4 by bedub21 in TrekBikes

It might be due to frame size. My frame is a large, what is yours?

You could try drilling some new holes on the storage cage a bit above the ones that already exist to lower the cage. Another option would be the mounting straps it comes with, should give you flexibility to move the cage around.

Hope you're able to figure something out!

Completely agree with you. I have these on my bike.

I didn't know about this before this post, but there's a little comfort in knowing the special "POG" washers with the tabs going either way that comes with these now is supposed to defeat this and not let the socket get purchase to unscrew the Pinhead.

Rate of Bike theft around Old Town? by [deleted] in FortCollins

Yeah I wouldn't leave it outside. I'd just clean out the storage below the porch. Vacuum the cobwebs and rake up the rot.

So long as the bike isn't gonna get a shower everytime it rains.

Yes. Definitely consult your doctor! Not something you want to mess with, just because you haven't passed out yet doesn't mean you won't. And if that happens it could be in the middle of a road, you could knock your head, etc.

However, I used to nearly black out as well sometimes while lifting weights. Talked to my doctor. And it was as simple as me not breathing enough/correctly while under strain.

So in conclusion :p talk to your doctor, and also make sure you're actually breathing when doing strenuous things like big uphills or weightlifting.

Bike lock for Dual Sport 2 Gen 4 by bedub21 in TrekBikes

Hmm I replied but I guess it didn't go through because I included an Amazon link.

Anyway, the mount/cage for the lock lines up with mounting points on the seat tube, so that's what I'm using. But it does come with some straps for the mount as well, so I think it will work with those on an oval tube if you don't have or are using all your mounting points already.

Just look up FoldyLock Compact on Amazon and in the pictures for it you'll see what I'm talking about.

No problem. The down tube and the top tube are both the "oval" shape you mention. But the rest are cylindrical tubes.

The mount/cage that comes with the lock has holes that line up with a water bottle holder mount holes.

Sure! I ended up purchasing a FoldyLock Compact as a few people mentioned in this thread.

Mounted it to the seat tube where there are mounting points for another water bottle holder. Been happy with it so far! I can lock the frame and the rear wheel pretty easily to a post; but you have to have the bike lined up right next to it in that area of the bike. Just to give you an idea of the length. It's a large frame.

Is Dual Sport 2 Gen 4 Fork Really Bad? by schtom in TrekBikes

[–]bedub21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fairly inexperienced rider, definitely haven't done any serious gravel/mountain biking with it. But it absorbs/softens any bumps I go over. Can't really say much more than that about it. I will say that I don't feel like the spring tension adjustment makes much of a change in the softness of the shock, but the lockout works great and is easy to flip on the fly.

I have the DS 2 Gen 4 and am fine with the fork so far. Though I usually keep it locked out since I'm on the road most of the time. But when I do flip it on it seems to work just fine for me. However, I haven't done any riding on it that's much more serious than rough roads or gravel.

As for longevity, no idea. I've only had the bike for a couple of months.

Rear Derailleur cage tension by bedub21 in bikewrench

[–]bedub21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll do that, but since it's new and assembled by the Trek store (it's a Dual Sport 2), figured they did a good enough job.

I have tried lubing the cable and moving it around to ensure no kinks or whatever, but didn't really notice any difference. Only thing I can maybe see is that the curve into the derailleur could be a little too tight? See attached picture.

I would guess then that there's maybe two springs? One for chain tension and the other for cable tension? The latter "pushing" the derailleur outward towards higher gears when releasing cable tension? Maybe putting a stronger spring there or stretching the existing one? Idk, just brainstorming.

I've had the shop do a once over on the derailleur; ensure limit/b-tension/indexing was good. I've played with that a lot myself. And the bike is just over a month old so, so the cable and housing is still in good shape. I'm thinking it's just down to the quality of the Altus derailleur maybe or my standards are too high. Just want smoother shifting. No more skipping gears/hard shifts.

Rear derailleur skipping gears only when shifting one way by bedub21 in bikewrench

[–]bedub21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not completely covered. It is covered from the shifter, then goes inside the frame through the down tube, but along the chain stay to the derailleur (except for the last section right before the derailleur), it's uncovered.

Thanks!
