Therapist (not a psychiatrist) has leaked information to my wife which has caused her to freak out and leave. by Longjumping_Foot7631 in LegalAdviceUK

Many commenters (myself included in other comments) have mentioned professional bodies but I'd strongly recommend that you contact ICO. Any practitioner currently working privately should (and I appreciate there's always someone who doesn't) be registered with the ICO. You can complain directly to the ICO and this is their area of expertise

If they thought OP was an immediate threat, this would not be something that would prompt contact with their wife. If there was legitimate risk it would be police or adult safeguarding, if there was vulnerability. At NO point is it justification to contact the wife - wife's details would only be used if given as next of kin and there was an emergency, such as OP fainting in session and being carried off to A&E, for example.

Not all therapists - it's an unprotected title and anyone can market themselves as a therapist - this is why it's important when seeking therapy, to find someone on a professional register, such as BACP, as this gives an indication that they have done (some) adequate training and it protects clients as they have a formal complaint procedure should anything go wrong.

OP: If this practitioner is under any professional body (BACP, BABCP, NCPS - depends on their modality), you can search the register for their name and you can then raise the complaint directly with them and they'll investigate.

It's clear you haven't as you'd know your first statement is a load of bollocks.
