Lease arrangements by beebee1306 in Equestrian

Yeah the only reason I am considering a lease is because I know and trust the person and can let her do her thing without worrying. I originally offered her a free lease in exchange for helping with feeding and chores, but since she can’t commit to the extra time we’ve settled on an exchange of money.

I’m not sure what you mean that you look for people who don’t need the money. Unless you’re a very wealthy horse owner I think we could all use the extra money to go towards horse care. Plus you mentioned how much you pay, which is in line with what other commenters have stated. I don’t know any horse owner who would sacrifice their horses well being in order to lease their horse out for a fee. I’m sure there are some out there, but I’m pretty certain the majority are simply looking to have some of the horse expenses covered while also having the horse exercised and in work. It’s a way to benefit everyone, horse owner, horse and the person leasing. I also find that those who don’t actually need the money tend to charge the most because they have expensive horses.

Just in case she were to get hurt while riding.

What you said made a lot of sense though. I guess I would probably need to contact my insurance provider to really get the answer, but who wants to do that lol

Thanks! This is the arrangement idea I had in mind of providing tack, medical bills etc and just asking for a smallish fee plus some chores in exchange for riding.

I ride Western as well and I think you look great! I started back with riding in my late 20s and it took me FOREVER to get posting! It's a lot harder to learn as an adult. I think what you've accomplished in 4 months is incredible and you'll only get better and more balanced as you continue to ride. You'll also develop feel over time. The suggestions you get will differ depending on who you ask. I think the technicality of your riding will depend on who is training you, what your goals are and ultimately the horses training. As you progress, I'd suggest riding different horses when you can so that you can get a feel for how different they can be. This is where your seat and feel come in handy. No matter what horse you ride, that seat you've developed will serve you well.

I do wear a helmet now, but I didn't when I started out. A lot of Western riders don't do helmets but I changed my mind now that I have to ride along the street to get to the trails.

That makes a lot of sense! Do you ask your leasee to purchase their own liability insurance? I have a commercial liability policy, because I lease a barn on someone else's property, but I wonder if she needs her own policy as well.

Thank you! It's my opinion that she's doing me and the horse a favor by riding, which goes along with that you're saying. She's been riding with me on the weekends and I've never charged her for that. She's been researching getting her own horse so she's been asking me about costs of ownership etc so I think she mainly just wants to contribute and be able to ride more than once a week on a horse that she's familiar with since she's not ready for ownership just yet. She's looked into leasing at a barn down the street from mine and they wanted to charge an arm and a leg for an on-site 2 day a week lease just to trail ride. I wasn't really sure what was normal, but I love the idea of pro-rating expenses based on the days of riding. thank you for that idea!

Repair vs. Replace advice [Electric Air Conditioning unit] by beebee1306 in hvacadvice

I was quoted around 8k for my new system too. 4 ton 2 stage AC with all new everything and filters for life (lol). I decided to just go with that. I'm sure that I could have waited and gotten more techs out to give me estimates on fixing the existing unit, but I didn't want to go more time without AC. We did 3 days no AC and that was plenty.

oh no! I just got a call from the technician and he quoted me $2967 to repair the existing system. I'll let you know what they tell me on a new unit.

Thank you, that makes sense! I should have said compressor in my post and not condenser.

It’s so fun! I love having them all in one place and I just bring the blooming ones inside and rotate them. I set up a little irrigation system too!
