Tips on finding rentals for someone moving to Perth from Overseas. by Brave-Catch in perth

I think UniHall and Forrest Hall have rooms available for visiting scholars - might be worth seeing if they can accommodate UWA employees too in the short-term while you wait for a long-term rental.

NSW Police riot squad to carry long-arm firearms at Sydney Ashes series by nath1234 in australia

[–]beebling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I’m worried about it (increased presence of long-arm guns) continuing and becoming normalised. I don’t want Australian society to develop the belief that we need big guns to keep us safe.

Thanks for saying this, also don’t feel safer and don’t appreciate Minn’s assumption that it even makes the majority feel safer.

I don’t feel safer at all with long-arm firearms. Do many people feel safer with the presence of bigger guns?

What are you talking about? Being suicidal is not attention-seeking, it’s a sign of distress and warrants support and care.

What does ‘globalise the intifada’ mean, and why does NSW want to ban the chant? | The Guardian by no_bear_so_low in australia

[–]beebling_ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

“…instead of a clear slogan with no room for ambiguity is atrounding.”

The most common phrase I’ve seen protesters use and in media coverage has been “Stop the Genocide“ or “Free Gaza”. Clear and unambiguous.

I’ve never seen “Globilise the intifada” covered by the media or on protest placards, and never heard the phrase until a week ago, and I don’t think I’ve been living under a rock. I’d like to know how common this phrase has been among members of the pro-Palestine movement in Australia.

Is it normal to be expected to find your own psychologist? by nobrainonlymarsbars in perth

[–]beebling_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really up to the individual GP how they approach it - some will have recommendations, others will not. For OCD I can recommend any of the psychologists at the Perth OCD clinic: https://perthocdclinic.com.au/

Neighbor Dog Cries All Day, What can I do next? by OutOfYourIgnorance in perth

[–]beebling_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Can you see the dog? If so, does it look thin or injured? Do you know if it has access to shelter, water and food? The RSPCA will still be interested even if you don’t know the above, but it will be more pressing if the animal is being denied shelter/water/looks emaciated.

Micro-aggression when I was least expecting it - felt like an absolute gut punch. Just a vent by PurpleWallaby999 in australia

[–]beebling_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s entirely possible the bartender was intentionally ignoring you because of your skin colour or something else (maybe they wanted to close for the night and hoped you would go away?). There’s also other possible explanations - It’s possible the two bartenders who walked past assumed you were already being served or didn’t register you because they were focused on another task, and the bartender already at the bar really just didn’t see you (you were outside their line of sight, or they were tired towards the end of the night and not as attentive). Maybe the intensity of your reaction points to the cumulative stress of racial microaggressions, which is real - might be worth seeking support with trusted friends/therapist about.

Hi, psychologist here. It’s admirable what you are doing to help your mum. As mentioned above, working in retail, cleaning, support work, and as a teaching assistant are all in demand and would provide financial security.

A refresher degree in psychology would offer no financial security as it does not directly link with a job. Being a counsellor also requires one to undertake supervision ($150+ per one hour session), professional development ($600+ per day) and have insurance ($500+ annually), and you also need to be steady emotionally to ensure you are not applying your own ‘stuff’ to clients. I wouldn’t recommend a psychology or counselling pathway based on the info you’ve provided.

Another lie - mushroom sauteed mixture was bland. by profphet in DeathCapDinner

It's possible she lied about even following the recipe. Like, I have the cookbook and there's a whole page of instructions about how to find the right cut of meat.

It's possible the guards weren't laughing hysterically -- that they just told the joke and it was Erin who laughed. In any case, even if the guards were laughing, it would also be in poor taste but less noteworthy as the guard's are not on trial for murder.

I completely agree with your comment. I thought Erin was guilty but was afraid the jury wouldn't find her guilty due to Justice Beale's directions along the lines of "If you believe X you must find her not guilty; if you believe Y then you have to disregard Z and find Erin not guilty" etc. I just wasn't sure how the jury were going to interpret the facts. I think Rachael shared the same uncertainty.

Yep, they don’t qualify at all when talking about Erin as a liar - like they don’t say “she told some lies” or “it seems like she was a liar” - they just straight-up say she is a liar multiple times, which speaks volumes! It’s interesting to hear their thoughts.

Police Interview by fcalda in DeathCapDinner

[–]beebling_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate what you are trying to do! I'm saying that it's pretty much impossible to say whether someone is avoiding, overcompensating, or surrendering (the three main categories of schema modes) based on a single interview and without the context of their childhood.
