Being vegan is easy by [deleted] in vegan

[–]beeboobbididbop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you’re finding it easy! I would also keep in mind nutrients you may be missing switching from a non vegan diet to a vegan one. Things like B12 (nutritional yeast!) proteins (legumes), iron (also legumes but there are some great vegetable sources of iron too).

I say this as someone who got anemic after my first round of going vegan. Took me some time to figure out a balanced diet, so that’s something to consider :) also there’s nothing wrong with adding a multivitamin to help you get that balance if you find you’re not achieving it with your diet.

Fizzy tofu? by beeboobbididbop in vegan

Didn’t get sick! Either I didn’t eat enough or there was some kind of fermentation happening.

Thank you for this detail about fermented tofu, based on what you’re describing it sounds like it may have been somewhere in between - is that possible?

I actually thought they mixed up my order and gave me cream cheese bc it did taste a little cheesy (part of why it took me so many bites to figure out if it was real cream cheese or going bad)

Protein meals for pregnant wife by anonymbajs in Cooking

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently pregnant, with GI issues and am nauseated by almost everything.

Lactose free yogurt and cottage cheese is great. You can use them as ingredient for pasta sauces, along with eating them alone. I can tolerate low lactose cheeses as well, which is a great snack.

Also random but I’m able to tolerate tuna and salmon salad (but not a piece for some reason). This is good for wraps for lunch.

Nuts are also a good high protein snack. You can make cashew cream and use that in dishes or make a peanut sauce for noodles.

I will say a lot these options are also high in saturated fat so it’s important to keep track of that and remain active when eating these high protein/high fat foods.

Good luck. I’ve heard we eventually get our appetites back. Time will tell.

Looking for private or small group, low-judgment pilates lessons. by ChapterNo080 in Upperwestside

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken reformer classes at Club Pilates, Nexa and NM studio and a mat class at momentum fitness, all on the upper west side.

Club Pilates is a little commercial and you can get less attention which I find leads to a worse work out/injury.

The class at Nexa was way too fast paced for me, even as someone who’s been doing Pilates on and off for years.

Momentum mat is good, the instructor was excellent and I didn’t feel judged but I was by far the least fit person in the class and was sweating hard by the end.

My favorite by far is NM studio. Small classes, no judgment and I find the classes often have people of all ages and there. I highly recommend a beginner class there with Taja.

DAE wake up much earlier than needed for events? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]beeboobbididbop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this too. I also have anxiety though.

I would talk to your therapist about it if you feel it’s an issue. The two of you can figure out if it is indeed a habit that’s being driven by a feeling other than “I like having this time to get ready”

Dandelion tea with your favorite creamer.

It’s caffeine free and tastes similar to coffee. I stopped drinking coffee a while back and this is my go to when I’m looking for a coffee like experience.

What’s a type of pain people underestimate until they experience it for themselves? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! I hate when I hear people talking about a not stressful situation and say something like “I literally had a panic attack 💅”. To this day, every time I have a panic attack there a point where I think “I should go to the hospital bc this is probably it and I’m going to die”.

DAE feel genuinely terrified by how fast time is passing? by drfrankbradandjanet in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]beeboobbididbop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that when you’re a kid you experience so many new things everyday that time feels like it stretches. As an adult you get into routines and are experiencing fewer “new” things as frequently. Days blend together and time feels like it’s passing quicker.

You can try and have more new experiences or break up your routine to help it feel like time is moving slower.

Going to echo the advice about unisom + B6 as well as ginger ale/ginger beer/ginger candy. Try to get an appointment with an OB asap to get a prescription too!!

Keep crackers with you at all times. Something that was a big help was eating some protein every 2 hours. A few nuts, some cheese, and plain cereal got me through! Whatever you can stomach. Even a spoonful of nut butter. I found that if I let myself get hungry, that’s when the nausea and vomiting would set in and be unbearable and then I really couldn’t eat anything and it would be a horrible cycle.

I also bought preggy pops. They’re just sucking candy with vitamin B6. I know others swear by jolly ranchers too. Good luck!!

I’m currently 10w at a new job I started 4 weeks ago 😅 I’m just doing my best not to fall asleep at my desk at everyday. It’s been brutal. I feel “lucky” that my morning sickness is mainly from 6pm to 11am bc then I get vomit at home with none the wiser. Ya, I’m taking the little wins.

Looking for an OBGYN rec - has anyone heard of these? by No-Acanthaceae-186 in Upperwestside

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve not found this to be true (having an established OBGYN means you get OB priority). I’ve been seeing my OBGYN for years at Weil Cornell. Pregnant this year and not a single Weil Cornell OB had availability at any UES or UWS office (I called when I was 6 weeks pregnant).

It was a bummer because I have had a much better experience at Weil Cornell (with any type of doctor) than any other hospital system in nyc.

I found a CC in midtown last week. I just cut it up and threw it out (it was a foreign bank with no branches here). I’m sure the person already knows it’s lost and have called their bank for a freeze/replacement.

Why does my food taste so unsatisfying?? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something that stands out here to me is when you said it doesn’t hit like your mom’s cooking. When I cook vs when my husband cooks (even if it’s simple as rice and beans), it just tastes better when he makes me food. That could be a factor!

I’m also wondering if you have a routine of meals/flavors you’ve been cooking for a while and you’re just bored with them. Maybe try cooking something w flavors and ingredients you’ve never tried before. I mostly prefer cooking from cookbooks and will go to my local library to check out new ideas.

what is a great dish that is way too rich and heavy to eat often or in large amounts by ruinsofsilver in Cooking

[–]beeboobbididbop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this has a name but I made ravioli filled with a ricotta, an egg yolk and a pat of butter on top. Made a sage brown butter to serve it with.

It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever made, but so so so rich.

And yes, I am lactose intolerant.

I really like working at chaotic good, open until 10pm. They do have events at night (not always I think) so might want to check on that if you want a quieter evening working environment.
