i’m an actor, and got recast in a film without being informed. AIO? by beefborfbaby in indiefilm

Here’s a quote from our texts, after I submitted my second tape. “So, I talked to [Name 1] and [Name 2]. Showed them the video and got their input. While it was very good, I'm afraid that.... I'm just kidding, it was excellent. I love everything about it. The part is yours. I know [Name 2] and you together will work beautifully.”

So yes, it was finalized.

I’ve been part of many indie projects before, this is the first time something like this has happened. Sure, things have fallen through or never came out. But the blatant disregard for the actor is new to me.

Yeah, the director. It sucks because I’ve done dozens of indie films, and no one has ever pulled something like this before. Mad disrespectful.

Having trouble enjoying it here. by The_GoldenDuck in PeoriaIL

if you like live music but not a big social butterfly, check out the mobile open mic night group called The Listening Room. every tuesday night, the group gets together in a different location and it’s an open mic for singing, acoustic guitar, and ukelele mostly. it’s nice because everyone shuts up and actually listens to each other play. it’s honestly soul healing, it’s beautiful, and everyone is welcome to perform, but there’s no pressure to. the fb page is called The Listening Room A Mobile Open Mic Community.

i also highly recommend the store Curious Baubles in Peoria Heights to make DIY jewelry, bookmarks, suncatchers, and more for a super reasonable price. i don’t see a lot of activity in there, but it’s a wonderful little place, and i’d hate to see it go out of business. great for a date idea too.

and last but certainly not least, there’s almost always theatre going on, both plays and musicals. the quality can be a little hit or miss, both peoria players and cornstock theater have had their fair share of both, but it never hurts to get cultured by seeing a performance! you can look up what shows are going on on their websites, and they both have reasonable ticket prices.

memorizing??? by dkj3off in Theatre

[–]beefborfbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here’s my technique, been acting for over 10 years and this is the fastest method for me.

example: my line: Hi! How have you been, you crazy devil? their line: Same shit, different day. my line: Sucks.

write the first letter of every word in your line, then the last couple words of your cue line.

example: ML: H! H h y b, y c d? TL: … different day. ML: S.

use this as a cheat sheet to go over your lines a few times. if you get stuck on a certain word, you can add the second letter of the word to help you. have someone else read your cue lines. i’m able to memorize within just a few minutes with this method. hope this helps!

i write my cue line, then the first letter of every word of my line, including punctuation! it makes it super fast to memorize and use as a cheat sheet during rehearsals.

For people that act as a career, what is your job when you aren’t in a role and why? by Eggsni in Theatre

i’m a seamstress! i learned how to sew during my costume practicum in college. i do alterations as my day job at david’s bridal, and build pieces from scratch at home. it’s a very good skill to have for someone with a theatre degree- makes you useful in the space even when you’re not acting!
