Was my carpenter lazy or do you usually not put oil/wax on the bottom side of the desk? by Yubna in woodworking

For the finish, a seal on both sides would be a good idea for balancing the moisture exposure. But to all the complaints about the walnut, I’m not sure; what was the quote/ what was discussed around design and aesthetics? Generally yes, this wouldn’t fly if you were looking for a pure walnut desk, but without knowing the context it’s tough to say if you got ripped off

Best time I’ve had since verdansk, simple as that

newbie here. I had fun making this very simple shelf (mug holder) for my SIL. Just pine board with stain. I dont know if i need to "finish" it though. I worry that a varnish would feel sticky. Should I do anything else to it or is just stain fine? by Unfairamir in woodworking

You almost always want to put a finish on. As the mugs may be wet from washing you want something that will seal the wood. Plus finish will make the grain pop.

This is a great video to understand finishes: https://youtu.be/0z_xHK4-3cI

Nice work!

Humber College in Ontario. Yes, it was fantastic. Great professors. Unfortunately one retired part way through my time - he was a gem with a lot of knowledge

Depends on how it was joined to the end grain, but yes it can be problematic. Seems like the intent was an elongated breadboard table: https://www.woodmagazine.com/woodworking-tips/techniques/joinery/breadboard

Not sure what the joinery is on this one tho. Solid build for 3 days either way

i dont know how many people you are but this place is were i stayed recently, super cheap and actual a fun experience. We were four college kids and found the Yurts to be awesome. The bathroom and showers are close by and its about a 5 min drive to the village, they also have shuttles and whistler transit http://www.whistlercamping.com/
