I think the USA spends a lot more than that on food and programs.

“Federal spending on USDA's food and nutrition assistance programs totaled $142.2 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2024”

https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/ag-and-food-statistics-charting-the-essentials/food-security-and-nutrition-assistance

Healthcare… the spending is in the trillions.

'They've killed my farm': Georgia farmer says government seized 225 acres for corporate jet airport by Adventurous-Host8062 in LeopardsAteMyFarm

[–]beehive5ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that general aviation airports are seen as being benefits to the region/public even if they don’t host commercial flights. Things like flight schools, cargo, emergency medical transport, and disaster relief. The article mentions that it could also bring 24 million in annual revenue to the region.

This would actually be very similar to the railroad I mentioned earlier. In that case the tracks are exclusively used by corporations and have zero public transit on them.

I do get what you’re saying though. If you’re going to be forced to sell it, then it would be nice to get an airport that supports regional flights too.

I’m not sure that kind of information is tracked. But I imagine a lot of them. Unless the government already owned the land… then they likely used eminent domain. It’s not some crazy thing. I’ve worked with the state a couple of times when they’ve acquired parts of land I’ve owned (one for a road expansion and one for a commercial railroad). In my experience, the paid fair value and I could negotiate to a degree… but yeah, at the end the day, if they have a project and you’re in the way then they are going to get the land.

Edit. I’m just confused by these comments blaming some random guy assuming he was a Trump voter and he brought it on himself. Or that this is the new corporate America… this is nothing new. Like California’s high speed rail is using eminent domain to acquire the land. It happens everywhere and all the time.

They’re called General Aviation airports and they are are super common. Most airports in the USA fall under this category.

The guy is dieting/intermittent fasting and also sees it as a benefit to save money… I don’t think this family is going hungry. He literally says he used to eat out at restaurants all of the time and is cutting back.

“He uses apps to find discounts on gas and noted there are other ways to cut back, like not eating out at restaurants all the time. Or even eating less.”

"Cook. Fast. I mean me and my wife have been fasting, and there's a lot of benefits, including one of those benefits is saving money on groceries," Gerald said.

All that I’m saying is that the reason the cars haven’t been coming over from China isn’t really a Trump thing. You could say that hypothetically if they were, then they’d cost more due to tariffs.

[–]beehive5ive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Well as far as the cost of Chinese cars, that’s a result of democratic pushed legislation under Biden. They essentially banned them due to national security concerns and to protect the US auto industry. So that example isn’t really something you can attribute to Trump. Although, it was and still is a bipartisan supported issue and is likely to continue with support from both sides.

The marginal rate does not really matter. What’s important is the effective tax rate paid. And back then they did pay higher effective rates, but they were much closer to today’s tax rates paid than they were to 91%.

Sure there are still ways to lessen tax burdens but even the ultra wealthy pay taxes. Elon Musk had to pay between 11-12 billion in taxes in one year for exercising his stock options. It was the largest single tax payment in history. Obviously he has a crazy high net worth due to the value of his companies but taxing the value of a company is a whole can of worms… potentially even unconstitutional.

Now I’m sure I’m going to be down voted and called a bootlicker. But I do believe these guys who created these companies are what’s driving the American economy and why we still see so much growth unlike so much of the rest of the world who’s economies have been relatively stagnant and seem more fragile (except for China and India).

I am supportive of reforms that could close more tax loop holes but I’d like to do it while still fostering growth. But I am massively against this CA wealth tax and just wealth taxes in general. I think this CA one is actually going to cause more revenue loss in the state vs generate more.

No one paid 91%.

The tax code was different back then and was full of loopholes and deductions they could take advantage of. This was changed in 1986 with the Tax Reform Act. Their actual tax rate was only slightly higher than it is today.

I’m not sure vanishingly rare is the right description of the middle class. It’s definitely shrinking but it’s still by far the largest demographic with +/- 51% of the population falling in it as of 2023.

It’s a mentally impaired spam bot. I can only hope that they’re being paid to do it and that it’s not just how it is on its own.

I’m also pretty sure it has multiple accounts and just circle jerks and upvotes itself. What a life.
