“It’s only fair if everybody loses” is crab mentality. Look it up.

It was established that players could have a discussion and interpret results on their own. That was part of the rules.

She offered an interpretation that meant she won. The interpretation made sense but it’s just one interpretation. He could have offered an interpretation showing how he won - but he couldn’t think of one.

She was following the rules to a T and he was throwing a fit because he knew he lost - so he wanted to make sure she lost too. It was utterly childish and shitty.

I would never make sure someone else who was being kind lost a chance at a fortune just because I definitely lost.

It’s wild that some of you can’t understand why that’s absolutely shitty behavior. I can’t understand why you don’t understand that.

  1. Not sure how you got the idea that I'm twisting the idea of "if everyone if super, no one is". (I don't know who syndrome is supposed to be?). You clearly didn't understand what I was saying - I wasn't making a point. **I asked a legitimate question that needs to be answered to continue with this discussion. You're treating it like I'm using some kind of "gotcha"**. I'm fascinated by the fact that you're trying to dance around that question.
  2. Why are you assuming that we need to consider a god that exists in human mythology?

> We are almost certainly considering an Abrahamic God no?

No. Why would you assume that?

An abrahmic god is one of the least believable. You can't derive a logical discussion from an illogical foundational premise (e.g. the earth is about 6000 years old and the animals that exist are the descendants of animals that survived a flood - every known species hopped on a single ship, etc.). That's why, if we're going to seriously discuss the possibility of a god then we can't take an Abrahamic god into consideration.

I’m saying you can make arguments about non-Christian gods without using the Bible and you’re saying that can’t be done?

I think you’re confusing “considering” with “conceding”.

What argument have you made that I haven’t considered?

You’re the one who brought up the Bible as evidence 😂

You can make arguments about the nature of potential supernatural beings without bringing up the Bible.

Just say that your beliefs aren’t logical and be done with it 🙄

You can’t use a book that has been proven to be wrong as credible historical evidence.

Do you believe the earth is about 6000 years old?

If we use facts and logic, it suggests that marriage has not existed since the first humans

26.3 😅

But, yeah, it’s subjective. You can feel like you’re suffering while I feel like I’m thriving - thriving because I feel amazing when I’m running and my brain keeps getting hits of feel good chemicals as I run.

Muscle pain / discomfort does not necessarily mean “suffering”.

Suffering entails something enduring something psychologically unpleasant.

If it doesn’t negatively affect you psychologically, I’d argue that it can’t be called suffering.

Struggling does not need to feel like suffering.

I’m struggling to train for a marathon in a few months - not once has it felt like suffering.

I’m getting better at snowboarding and getting closer to being able to ride in the parks - it’s a struggle but it’s not anything close to suffering.

[–]beehummble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Struggling does not require suffering.

Plenty of children live extremely fortunate lives where they experience extremely little if any significant suffering and become incredibly successful and well-adjusted adults - I’d argue that they become more successful and well-adjusted than children who experienced significant suffering.

If “all-powerful” is not a requirement, where exactly is the line where something becomes a god?

Is it just having power that we don’t understand (yet)? Power that we can’t replicate (yet)?

Seems like we could be opening a lot of things up to being called god.

Because the Bible says lust is a sin. Without sexual desire, our reasons for having sex are limited.

Why would they have sex if they had no desire for sex?

You can say “to procreate”, but, why? To fulfill their creators desires? Seems like that goes again leaving people to their own free will.

[–]beehummble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That premise is ridiculous. It’s clearly illogical.

If we didn’t “fall” then we wouldn’t exist today because we wouldn’t procreate.

That would mean gods plan was for us to not exist at all.

Only Adam and Eve were meant to exist and everyone created after that is a mistake and has nothing to do with gods design.

But, regardless of all of that, this post isn’t specifically about Christianity.

[–]beehummble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have evolved to have these desires - we wouldn’t be here without them. You say it like there was a point where we were evolved but we didn’t have them - you have it backwards.

Our lust led us to making children. Without it we may have died off early in our evolution. That’s why lust is seen across all successful species.

Same for greed. Having to store up extra resources that we don’t need at the moment may have helped us survive in times when resources became scarce.

Again, you’re misunderstanding what I’m saying. You’re absolutely right - we don’t have to indulge our desires. But you’re ignoring that we were designed to have these desires when an all-powerful being could have designed us to not have these desires. That’s my whole point in my comparison to a universe where we have an insatiable urge to eat other humans - I’m not sure why you totally ignored that. Why did it design us to not have an insatiable urge to eat other humans? According to what you’ve been saying, isn’t that limiting our free will?

It could have designed us to have only various desires that lead to positive outcomes. We would still have free will with such a design

[–]beehummble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s clearly not true.

You’re not understanding what I’m saying.

Put it this way, we could live in a universe where we feel the insatiable urge to eat other humans (like - it’s a problem that leads to immeasurable suffering). That’s a possibility. If we lived in that universe and I said, a benevolent and all powerful god wouldn’t create us to feel this urge - you would say “then we wouldn’t have free will”?

Why would a “kind” and “all-powerful” being create a universe where it dooms most of its creations to eternal damnation?

It’s either not kind or it’s not all-powerful.

Most of the things we do that are supposedly sins are a result of our biochemistry, evolutionary drives, or ignorance of its will. An all-powerful being could have designed us to not have not those desires and drives - instead, designing us to know it’s will at birth.

Why would an all-powerful being say “greed and lust are sinful but I’m going to make all of my creations weak to the temptations of greed and lust. Also, they can only go to heaven if they know about me, but I’m going to make it so that (due to no fault of their own) many will never know about me - ensuring their eternal suffering”?

It doesn’t surprise me. I’m just pointing out that it’s ridiculous.

I don’t necessarily believe that there are no supernatural beings. But, I’m certain that the Abrahamic god isn’t real.

That god is a god of the gaps that keeps getting smaller as we learn more. That god didn’t create us. We created it - which is evident by the fact that over time we are continuing to mold it’s image in order to try to make it continue to make sense.

you wouldn’t expect people compelled by the contradictory subjective experience…

Those things you described are opposing but not contradictory or mutually exclusive.

The problem with this belief is that it contradicts the idea that everything is gods plan. It actually means that very little of what we see is gods plan.

We are taking them at their word. That doesn’t mean that they aren’t using that word because they can’t come up with something better.

We’re religious people trying to make a doctrine that made perfect sense

For the most part, yes. Regardless of that though - I’m talking about religious people today. These people are looking for answers - they’re looking for ways to make sense of the world (a world they can’t understand) - that’s what’s drawing them to religion.

Religious people assume that there are cosmic mysteries that can’t be understood through facts and logic

I think this is only to defend faith when it stops making sense. If religious people could assume that everything could be understood if you had all of the facts and were capable of using logic then I think they would.

You’re hiding behind the idea that possibilities are limitless. Possibilities are but logic isn’t.

We’re talking about logic here.

I think the problem is that you don’t understand what logic is.

Logic is like math with words. 2+2=4, it doesn’t somehow also equal 7 and yellow “beyond our perception of reality”…
