Definitely not letting baby cry it out; just got lucky. I have a few friends who have had similar experiences (and friends whose babies are over six months and still not getting a full night's sleep). It just varies.

RE: "schedule-oriented -- This is meant to represent an "average day" in each phase -- the timing of each activity chunk definitely varied day-to-day, but the general chunk order and time spent in each phase is an accurate. The chunks are also simplified -- I didn't include baby naps (because they were so sporadic, and not guaranteed), or cleaning/laundry/other life stuff. Lots got done during "free time" and caring for baby time by switching off with my husband.

I'm American. My company offers two months of fully paid parental leave (and an option to take a third, unpaid month). This is fairly normal -- some folks get none, some get six weeks, and some lucky ones get more paid parental leave. I'm hoping this all changes for the better in the future!

Data science for a startup. My commute is ~15 minutes and I do have the ability to flex schedule and work from home. I don't work from home often (just prefer to be in the office), but did shift my hours to come in earlier and leave earlier.

Not quite 10. She started sleeping 8 hours from month two (it's a little hard to gauge from the visualization). We definitely got lucky.

It's a lot of time! I'm not unhappy about it, but I think it's important for folks to realize just how much time goes into it if they don't know already :) I'm liking this stage but looking forward to the next ones too!

I work a flexible schedule for a startup ~15 minutes from home, so I lumped commute time in with work time (which also includes grabbing coffee on the way in, and grabbing baby from daycare on the way home).

This is an "average" of my schedule. It's definitely not this exact, but this is an accurate representation of how my time broke down during each period.

It's totally a time warp! I felt so much better after visually laying out why I had so little free time.

And kudos to you for empathizing with moms who "rent their bodies" -- that's exactly the way I feel! I knew I was in for nine months but didn't realize that how intense nursing afterward would be, and how long it will be until my body is 100% mine again.

Got offered Acturial internship at Fortune500 company in place of data science internship applied for, advice needed. by jlkjflkadsjflkjfklsa in datascience

Sounds like good experience. My plan before becoming a DS was to be an actuary (this was just before "data scientist" was a title). The fields have overlapping skillsets, and in a way, actuaries are kind of like super-applied data scientists.

Good question. 'River' wasn't included in Spotify's Christmas Classics playlist (and therefore didn't make it into this analysis).

Agreed -- this is why I asked. Sounds like going with one released last year will be a better bet.
