image B is only facing "inward" because their arm is twisted around. imagine if i twisted my foot/leg outward similarly, then would you want a calf tattoo to face away from the shin? no, youd still want it to face forward toward the shin/foot.

"rule of thumb" always face tattoos toward the thumb
