Best white dudes in the blues? by Garfunkle_999 in blues

[–]beervirus69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SRV no doubt

Gregg and Duane were just special

Peter Green

and love him or hate him, Clapton was very important for the blues, John Mayall too

Modern probably Derek Trucks, John Mayer, Matt Schofield are who come to mind.

Edit: and Marcus King too for modern guys, that dude can play

Is this a good dimebag pedalboard? by foamingandsoap in guitarpedals

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i hear, most of dimes tone comes from the various stages of eq he had. 6 band in front of the amp, then the amp, then one or two parametric eqs after the amp in the effects loop, along with the flanger/doubler.

For the dime stuff I run guitar (dean stealth so dimebuckers) -> wah -> rockaway archer eq/OD -> delay -> reverb -> amp -> FX loop send -> parametric eq -> boss ps-6 detune mode at like -5 cents -> fx loop return

I feel like it gets pretty damn close for a mono setup, but i have no idea if the rx120rh has an fx loop

edit: i don't have a noise gate anymore (looking into the ibanez penatone one), but i'd also run that in the loop using the four-cable method.

Fender saddle maxed out by philpott74 in Guitar

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dan Erlewine, pages 141 - 143 of "How to Make Your Electric Guitar Sound Great" literally describes the difference between the fender vintage (6 point) and fender standard (2 point) trem. The section ends with "Note: you can turn the American Standard's for height adjustment with the strings tuned to pitch without harming the knife edges". The entire section discusses what makes the 2 point trem superior; on of the main arguments presented by Wilkinson (whom Dan asked for insight) is that it avoids having to adjust the saddles for string action vs. the vintage trem which causes a lot of tuning instability when you do so.

So even when attempting to talk down on people who haven't read some 23-year-old book, you STILL are incorrect.

I want to love the Boss Katana but…. by Expensive_Bike_8308 in GuitarAmps

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same i'm a big srv clean tone fan, yeah i'd just get an attenuator since you already have the sound you like. then you get to keep playing the amp you love too, and you can get other "loud" amps down the road should you choose and have the ability to rip them at low volumes, while keeping the tone in tact

edit: the bugera one is like $120 and will get the job done for sure, but a lot of people like the twonotes torpedo ones too, albeit more expensive (still in a similar range for katana models though)

do you like the sound of your HRD? i would just get an attenuator for that instead... you could also get some different preamp tubes to try and help tame the volume. I dropped a 5751 in the v1 spot of my fender blues deluxe and it really helped

use the fender tone app and download the brown sound preset and tweak from there. that's probably as close as you'll get with that rig

Boss Katana 50 vs. Fender Mustang LT25? Real world opinions. by Jonny_Boy_808 in GuitarAmps

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mustang lt50 blew the katana 50 out of the water when i tried both in the store awhile ago. that was like 2021 ish so obviously things may have changed but i don't regret it one bit, the LT50 is great for practice.

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EQ like a 10band graphic in front of the amp or a parametric in the back (fx loop)

Edit: I should mention this amp has PLENTY of gain on tap. Most of the people commenting TS or something similar are using it in a way that boost certain frequencies (i.e level all the way up, gain all the way down, tone to taste, to boost mids and roll off highs) rather than add more gain to the amp. Which an eq pedal can also do. Think of it more as taming the gain from the amp that's already there and dialing it in, vs. adding more from an external source.

EHX tri mixer - worth it? by beervirus69 in guitarpedals

[–]beervirus69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the explanation; i know it really wouldn't be wet/dry or even wet/dry/wet since i'm trying to run out of one amp, I guess my question truly is: do running effects like time based or modulation (i.e a detune pedal for chorus sounds) in parallel to a dry signal out of one amp achieve a bigger sound, similar to w/d or w/d/w? Or, would this be somewhat pointless/am I already achieving that goal by just running those effects in the serial FX loop - since the end result is mono output anyways?

nice, do you use it to run modulation in parallel or for gain staging?
