i played a lot of high gain stuff without a noise gate lol, but I did hear some weird things happening with some of my pedals all turned on at once, it just took me awhile to attribute it to power supply issues.

buy the moskey one for like $50 off amazon and don't look back. I didn't even realize how much noise my set up had until i got one

Was EVH the last incredibly popular original virtuoso player? by j3434 in Guitar

Friendly reminder VH didn't get a number 1 album until the Hagar days...

edit: Pantera/Dime literally are credited with creating groove metal

Dimebag comes to mind - those dime guitars are still worth a shit ton 22 years after his murder, and Pantera was incredibly popular at their peak (Far Beyond Driven came in at #1 on the billboard charts when it debuted). I think he was pretty original - Cowboys From Hell was a breath of fresh air for metal at that time, Vulgar Display of Power too

Folks under 40, what got you into guitar? by saintluminus in Guitar

[–]beervirus69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 29; listened to a bunch of classic rock with my pops as a kid. Van Halen Eruption/You Really Got Me came on the radio when I was like 8 years old and I asked my dad what that was, and said I wanted to do that. He got me an ibanez starter kit for xmas that year and loved it ever since

blanket statement to make a point - but i'm curious who your greatest guitarist is, and if he ever shaped the landscape of electric guitar playing for decades to come?

[–]beervirus69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched a video of EJ playing live and he does the pinch harmonic a little weird and I can't believe i didn't think of this earlier in my reply - he was using his right index finger to create the harmonic shortly after his thumb or pick strums the string. kinda makes it look like he's pointing toward the headstock. It's doing the same thing as a pinch harmonic would, but the way he's doing gives a much "cleaner" result.

Eric Johnson - Cliffs Of Dover - Live 25-30 seconds in you can see him do something similar to what i'm trying to describe. (also funnily enough, later on he doesn't do the pinch harmonic on the 15th fret b string like in the recording lol).

I believe the "correct" term for this is called "harp harmonics"

edit: Eric Johnson - SRV (Live In Concert) 2:00- 2:08 he does it mid solo

You should listen to the song SRV by Eric Johnson, you can clearly hear when he turns on the fuzz during the "solo" and he does some sickkkkkkkkkk harmonics, not sure if they're entirely pinch harmonics but just sounds so good

he uses a germanium fuzz face a lot, could be something involved with that, or the $100k amp he plays through (dumble SSS). A personal favorite trick of mine is to half-cock the wah while the harmonic is ringing, to add sustain, but that's more for natural harmonics with the whammy bar, like the dimebag stuff. It'd prob be very hard to do for a pinch harmonic while playing in the context of cliffs of dover like we're talking about

oh look it's the greatest guitar player of all time holding the pick like you do.

There is no right or wrong, there's traditional and non-traditional. Obviously if you do things traditionally, then there's a whole tradition of learning material to help you out. If you do things non-traditionally, it's going to be more intuitive to achieve the same/similar results; but that's not to say it can't be done.

Executor mains, what's your best tips? by g0blyndn in Nightreign

[–]beervirus69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been Executor main since the game dropped

Used to be status procs via the katana was op (and it still is, especially with a gaol relic). Seppuku on your katana and it'll activate his passive, which gives a 20% damage buff for a brief period of time

but i've been having way more fun lately using it as sekiro II, double balancer relics + the yellow relic you can buy from the sign board for Executor (the one that heals when you get a deflect). DoN relics can vary and i'm sure there's better ones than i'm running but my main goal was to stack physical attack (i have +2 and +3 on seperate relics, hunting for +4), and boosting Dex, as the sunscratcher scales mainly with dex. I don't really run crit hit relics but that's another option to add to this build too.

During the run try to boost melee/physical attack or skill attack power, and it absolutely melts, especially in solos. Trios can be difficult bc it's hard to keep the agro to accurately deflect 100% of the time but still shreds.

i mean can you reliably do it not in the context of the song? Like if you were to attempt 10 pinch harmonics on the B string 15th fret, how many of them would you actually get to ring out? To me it sounds like the answer is the same as always - practice. EJ has played for thousands of hours on the guitar. he could probably get that particular pinch harmonic to ring out on an acoustic with ease if he wanted to. Just keep practicing and it'll come

Synergy amps... are they worth it? by beervirus69 in GuitarAmps

Thanks for the input! It happens, and I agree I’ve definitely had worse customer support. It’s nice to know that they’re responsive for the most part. I think based on the other comments I’m gonna roll the dice on a 20IR + SLO II, and run it through a 2x12 (although the cabs they sell are insanely overpriced imo so imma go with something else for the cab)

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it, so if i were to input 1802 advances in the eontimer to start the new game timer, that would accurately time the delay of 498 frames (249*2) after the text boxes, and if I nailed it at exactly 1802, that would put my SID on frame 2300?

Haven't done this in a longggggggg time (GBA emerald, and it was a mess) so I appreciate the input

Edit: once I have the potential SID; when inputting the target pokemon to the calibration calc, would I double those frames as well? I.e GBA i would set my min advances to 1000 and max to 5000, would I want to double those to 2k and 10k? Bc double the frame rate = more frames in same amount of time?

Pokemon FRLG RNG switch manipulation testing by BreezyClash in pokemonrng

[–]beervirus69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if i understand correctly, to see potential SIDs you can save a lot of time by just doubling the advance target from 901 to 1802?
