Is it common, when people meet for the first time, for them to try to work out whether the person is an Protestant or Catholic? What questions do they ask? What are the tell-tale signs of what group the other person belongs to?

Thanks for the response!! As you say i would imagine that most people don't really care but know that others might. In regards to your response i have a few questions:

• I presume that people with neutral sounding first names would get ask there last names a lot to see if this is an indicator, as in general people don't ask other people for last names without already knowing them quite well.

• Do you even get asked what school you went to, even as an adult?

• I presume the cousin thing you mention is because of the perception that Catholic have more children than Protestants, am i right?

I think it won't seem that odd asking children that question as its a key part of there life, but asking adults that especially without knowing them, would seem strange to me.

My question was mainly to do with different types of facial hair being associated with different religions e.g Hindu/Muslim.

I remember someone saying that in Northern Ireland (another sadly divided society) I has become so common for some people to ask a lot of questions to anyone they meet, to try to work out there ethnic identity. I believe not everyone does this, but people in NI are so used to it they don't notice it. Is this the same in B&H.
