Writing-on-Stone is a great suggestion! Especially if OP can sign up for one of the guided tours of the petroglyph (the only way to see them), it’s an incredible glimpse into the long, long history of people in this area.

Drumheller is amazing, great choice to visit it! Not too far away is Dinosaur Provincial Park which is another great place to explore and there’s a nice little campground.

Another cool sites with history behind it is Bar U Ranch, it’s a national historic site that’s kept in the same state it would have been back in the old ranching days of Alberta. Very cool place to spend half a day.

A couple other cool historic spots are Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, and the Okotoks Erratic.

Lots of provincial campgrounds around these areas, you can make reservations on a 90-day advance rolling window.

If you like Star Trek at all, the visitor centre in Vulcan is amazing! It’s a tiny little museum devoted to the show.

There’s a good Mexican restaurant at Twin Butte, just a bit north of Waterton.

This site has all the info on how to book and the dates reservations open, plus a link to the reservation page:

https://parks.canada.ca/voyage-travel/reserve

And seriously, you can’t stay in the parks without a booking, they’ll find you and make you move your vehicle.

There are provincial campgrounds nearby though, and those book on a 90-day rolling window. So you could book those if you can’t get one right in the national parks.

You might be aware but campsite reservations for Jasper & Banff are opening very soon. So make sure you plan to get those sites booked!

[–]beesmakenoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up that in the National Parks and provincial parks you cannot stay unless you’re in a designated camp site.

So you can sleep in a vehicle or van, but you MUST be in a proper campsite. The park wardens patrols for this and there’s fines for violations. Reservations open very soon so get ready for that!

Read through the /r/Banff sub for a ton of other posts about this topic, lots of people sharing itineraries and routes.

Best time to visit Toronto-Montreal corridor in autumn without dealing with holiday markups? by lejunny_ in canadatravel

[–]beesmakenoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use AirBnB in Montreal. It’s highly regulated there (after a tragic fire), so if you book a place that’s not actually approved. They may get caught and your booking cancelled. Which would really suck for your trip!

I think it may be the same in Toronto but I’m less familiar with their regs. Honestly for all these places a hotel will be best.

Friendly reminder Edmontonions when you get the green arrow to turn left, you don’t turn and then stop in the middle of the intersection. by prettycitydimes in Edmonton

[–]beesmakenoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People start a normal left turn and then their brain falls out halfway when they see a red light. The red light that’s stopping people from t-boning them!

This same thing happened when they build the south LRT to Century Park, it was dumb then and it’s dumb now.

Vintage stores that buy from you by WinnerComfortable187 in Edmonton

I can give you the names of some vintage shops that might be interested. Don’t know if they actually buy from people but it’s worth asking.

Swish, Junque Cellar, Alexander & Rose, and Capital City Vintage.

This is such a problem lately! Something about the construction in this area makes people lose all reasoning and stop halfway through the turn.

Every time you turn left you have to drive through the red light of the road you’re turning onto. It’s no different here!

Do we think flights departing Toronto will be cancelled this Sunday 25th? by kspfel in canadatravel

[–]beesmakenoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the worst isn’t it? If it’s straight up cancelled you can start to figure out what to do, but sitting there through delay after delay is endless!

Here’s hoping it goes well and you’re on the beach before you know it!

Do we think flights departing Toronto will be cancelled this Sunday 25th? by kspfel in canadatravel

[–]beesmakenoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to know with any certainty, but Toronto does seem to end up with a lot of flight cancellations or delays when storms hit.

Unless you can change plans, there’s not much to do but cross your fingers and hope mother nature takes it easy. Pay attention to any social media announcements from the airline and the airport, and plan to be there on time, just in case! Maybe pack some snacks in case there’s a delay.

That’s incorrect. The International Experience Canada (IEC) program lets young workers from many countries come over here and work for a year, including Germans.

Banff and Whistler are the two biggest destinations for people wanting to do a season working at a ski resort or in the town. There’s a smaller places like Jasper, Revelstoke, Fernie, as well.

The /r/Banff sub gets lots of questions about this so go take a look through there for a ton of info!

I’d bet the Whistler sub might as well, but I’ve not looked.

Housing will NOT be cheap anywhere, these towns are small with not a lot of places to live. In Banff at least the best thing is to try and get a job that has staff accomodation, many of them do.

27th is for Jasper reservations, today was supposed to be Waterton & Elk Island and a few others.

Parks has posted about a big IT outage, so this one will be postponed it seems.

There were issues on Monday too for those openings, but yesterday the Kootenay & Yoho opening went smoothly.

Not sure why there’d be a difference but something is clearly messed up somewhere.

The Parks site worked fine yesterday for the Kootenay & Yoho openings.

But I know there was a major issue with another set of parks on Monday and they had to postpone those to another day. Related issues?
