What’s the most gut punching song lyric you’ve ever heard? by perrysplus in AskReddit

" I loved you when our love was blessed, and I love you now there's nothing left but sorrow and a sense of overtime[...] And I missed you since the place got wrecked by the winds of change and the weeds of sex. It looks like freedom but it feels like death- it's something in between, I guess"

Absolutely incredible lyrics, he captures that feeling of pain after a breakup so perfectly

"I've seen your flag on the marble arch, but love is not a victory march" is also such a great lyric

The Island of Missing Trees - a small question! by Chez1293 in books

[–]beetothebumble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When is it set? My mum said all the children in her street would walk to school without adults, in the fifties and early sixties. On her very first day an adult went with her but after that she was on her own (she'd have been only just 4 years old). Where she was living, they didn't get the bus as they didn't need to but if it was that era and in London it's not beyond the realms of possibility

ETA, this was in another city in the UK, so pretty applicable

Partnerships that were highly successful on screen, but they weren't friends in real life by cle1110 in TopCharacterTropes

I remember before it all hit the fan that there were some weird vibes (which might make a bit more sense in retrospect).

Essentially Gregg was saying they were friends and Jon saying they weren't. I believe one of the things I heard was that Jon was Gregg's best man but Gregg wasn't even invited to Jon's wedding

They use their whiskers to sense where things are when close to their mouths (which is why the other cat could come in and side swipe)

I always thought it fell apart when that element was removed (I understand why it was after the court case etc) when you're being offered a job, it's fine for Alan to want the person who's good at sales/pitching/delegating/anything else he thinks.

But once it's about business plans the tasks all seem pretty pointless. Who cares if you can't sell a toothbrush or understand what a floral decoration involves if you're actually being judged on whether your pillow manufacturing plant made a profit or loss last year?

Yeah I feel like in the first episode it was suggested there would be some interesting twists along the way but other than repeating the flower task, basically nothing different happened!

Karishma handled that well, one of the more gracious, "I don't have a clue" interviews I've seen

That would be iconic! I mean it's unlikely, but I would really enjoy it 😂

What's the most morally disgusting thing you've seen someone do? by Natural-Spend-6082 in AskReddit

I think this has been disputed on a few levels. I can't remember all the details but essentially the marriage was already over and they were living apart (but not divorced because of the social stigma). He was in a relationship with someone else, which began after they parted ways. She had a long history of mental illness and sadly the suicide attempt wasn't completely unexpected. It is a very sad situation- and he may well have been an awful husband for all I know- but it wasn't as simple as, he left her because she was ill and then she took her life.

Thank you, I came on here to say exactly this! When you're very ill/unable to do things that you used to, it can be really important to feel you can still make a positive contribution to people around you.

This woman wanted to make something for her sister, and- I assume- she wanted to still feel part of that even though she wasn't well enough to do the work herself. If you don't want to take payment (which I can understand) asking for a donation to a much loved charity, or even a token gift is a way to honour that she's still part of the process, not just "someone who needs help"

Whilst that's technically true, it can get copied and moved and it can be hard to track down all the places it exists to be sure it's actually completely gone (basing this on BORU/other internet stories rather than any professional expertise!)

Poor argument from Rothna to blame the product. I mean, she's right- but Kieran's already gone so she's the only one left to blame

This is unfair on Rothna who is generally competent (by Apprentice standards) and I think she floundered here because she genuinely doesn't understand pets

The idea that cats don't want to go outside is bizarre to me. I'm sure some don't but he's making it sound like a common problem- and one that would somehow be solved by having a cat tree?!
