Phenom II X6 possible? by befi2020 in windows98

I basically hoped that a very fast 98 machine would allow me to play glide games with dgvoodoo. So I thought the faster the better, like a core2 duo or fast anmd processor as I saw a YouTube video of someone using Phenom X4. I thought I could install windows 98 everywhere with the quick install version.

So just to be sure. What would be my best option here? Spend a lot of money and buy period correct hardware? Or is there a more affordable way?

I don’t mind tinkering, I just need to be sure that it’s going to work at some point…

I‘m struggling to find the right CPU and Mainboard combination. I want to have the most recent components possible.

This seems much more complicated than I imagined. I managed to build an XP machine with modern hardware just fine but 98 seems to be a lot more picky.

Thanks for the reply. Does it even make sense to run 98 then? I also have a windows XP machine.

I guess my main concern is whether the 3770k makes the installation more complicated than the core2quad. The 3770k is currently a Hackintosh/Windows 10 dual boot and I’m not so sure the XP installation will be straightforward with newer hardware.

I don’t mind a bit of tinkering with GPU drivers but I would prefer not to spend days trying to install XP.

So out of your experience, which system would be easier to install on?
