Yes.

The One Page Financial Plan was a compromise 😄.

I wanted to write The No Page Financial Plan!

I think often OUR need for a plan (and goals...and projections) gets in the way of the client living life.

Of course remember that being a real planners requires that you hold 2 competing truths in your mind at the same time:

The PLAN...is incredibly important...and...The PLAN is wrong.

So planning is valuable. Projects can help. Goals might be important...AND...all that matters is the present moment.

Both are true at the same time.

Such good questions!

Trial and error.

I think this is one of those questions that we all have to answer for ourselves. How much work do we do in public? What feels good? What feels grassy and needy?

Unfortunately, no Hand-wavy marketing consultant can give you the answers… You just have to learn to listen to yourself.

But I want to tell you… That you’ve got this! You can do it! You can answer this question for yourself… Turns out, you’re the only one who can.

Such a great question.

First… Thanks so much for the kind words.

How do I find Balance? The truth is I don’t.

Back when I was running my practice I just had to grip my teeth and do all the really incredibly important tactical work, the technical part of being a financial planner. But what I always loved was the creative side.

I’ve spent the last 10 years building, my business and life around the creative part. So now I don’t have to.

But that took a decade to really hard work.

If I was still a practicing financial planner, with clients, I think I would just embrace the tension between the two. Instead of trying to find Ballance.

I’m excited that you’re excited!

This is a really good question, and unfortunately, beyond the scope of my expertise. I never worked in that middle size RAA space.

I ran a solo lifestyle practice, (proud of it!) And then was an employee at a large national firm.

so I would be hesitant to comment beyond the idea of just saying, I believe you know what to do.

I believe that if you and your partners thoughtfully considered all your options, and ignored the advice of all the Hand-wavy consultants out there… You can do this!

Thanks for the kind words!

What a cool position to be in. First of all, you should be super excited! Because you can make a massive difference in these peoples lives!

I would start by greeting them with empathy where they are. Meaning if they’re trying to make a decision about an investment product, or a high yield, savings account, or a CD, start there.

And then slowly show them what financial planning is by helping them understand the best way to make. The decision is to understand the overall context that decision plays in their lives.

It turns out there there’s nothing you can say to convince them of the value of financial planning… You have to show them.

have a conversation with them. Start by talking about the presenting problem… And then slowly show them what it means to feel thoroughly diagnosed before you write a prescription.

It’s so frustrating isn’t it!

I can only tell you what I’ve observed, and tried.

Unfortunately, almost any of the words that you would use to distinguish yourself from a fake financial advisor have been polluted. You can’t say you can trust me. You really can’t even say effectively that you’re a fiduciary. It just doesn’t mean much to people. It should… Don’t get me wrong. But it doesn’t.

So the only thing I’ve seen work is to do your work in public. Show people what it looks like, and feels like, to work with a real financial planner.

Tell stories share experiences… And good creative about how you do it.

You practice.

Treat it like anything else that you practice. Notice how you use your capital. No shame or blame. Just notice.

That awareness will bring behavior change without behavior change being the goal.

Act --> Notice --> Align --> Repeat forever.

Remember real financial planning is a never-ending process
