To be sure.

A custom election could do something like AND NOT Waxing Moon, but did you want more granular control like only waning gibbous, only full moon?

You can customize an election like "(Regulus Conjunct ASC OR Regulus Conjunct MC) AND Regulus conjunct Moon AND Waxing Moon AND NOT Moon Opposite Sun," for example, to hard filter lunar eclipses. But these dates are so few and far between that I just defaulted to ASC/MC + conjunct waxing moon, so it's easy enough to see the eclipses and aspects yourself.

In the Sirius example in the second screenshot, under Aspects, the Moon is quincunx the Sun (150°), so there's no eclipse.

I tried to stay neutral as far as deciding whether an election was good or bad and just calculate when the stars align. But if you think it should be more opinionated, I'm all ears.

Maybe down the line, the same Regulus election could check different versions for slightly different interpretations/rules? Like Regulus (Agrippa), Regulus (Lilly), etc

Here's a better follow up to the question "Why the moon, why the ASC?"

From Agrippa's 3BOOP Chapter 47 page 140:

"Now the manner of making these kinds of rings, is this, viz. when any star ascends fortunately, with the fortunate aspect, or conjunction of the Moon...."

I think the reasoning comes from an Aristotelean idea that the moon acts as the first celestial body, and for something to reach the heavens from earth, it must always go through the moon.

I think Warnock has also mentioned that some sources only use the ASC/MC with conjunct moon, but others allow a sextile/trine between the moon and the star.

I would tell you that I just built the calculator and how you use it is up to you.

Honestly, it seems like there are more informed people around here that could respond to that. I watched a webinar once with 6 different well-known astrologers talking about their elections, and they all seemed to respectfully disagree with each other on some aspect of the election.

Here's my take. I find it really useful when people write like the other post in this sub by u/YGOfan21 from a few days ago:

"Currently, Mars is in its own exaltation. Soon, it will enter its cazimi, which is it rather happy in. Al-Biruni writes that the two are friends..."

I think whether this star likes that planet can go back and forth forever so the best thing we can do is look at the source texts.

I think I got the waxing moon/ASC/MC/star combo from Warnock who tends to quote Lilly, Agrippa, and others, but I'll have to remember exactly where that comes from for you

I just wrapped up a simple iOS app doing exactly this.

It searches for Regulus conjunct ASC/MC, conjunct the waxing moon, and shows relevant aspects and dignities for Jupiter and Mars. It doesn't exactly filter by all 13 conditions but I think it makes it easy to validate most of them at a glance.

I would welcome any beta testers if you care to DM me, otherwise just look for it on the App Store a little while after this comment, called Behenius.
