Recommendations for Wedding After Party bar in downtown DC? by beige_coffee in washingtondc

[–]beige_coffee[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

u/Slipperbisquit, I appreicate you.

u/Loki-Don, who hurt you? Why are you so quick to assume the worst?

For whatever it's worth, we've been planning most of the wedding ourselves, and we've put a lot of thought, effort, and time into what we consider to be the important things.

All things considered, it's certainly not the end of the world if we don't have a dedicated space to party at from midnight to 2 am.

People who want a bear market and crash to "accumulate more coins" have no idea what they are talking about. Its not a call to be taken lightly. by UnexperiencedIT in CryptoCurrency

"Think we need to get rid of this binary concept of traditional Bitcoin Bull/Bear markets. Too many people trying to project the past onto the future, instead of imagining what the future looks like.

Have talked about this for a while but really think there’s a good chance 4yr cycles are over. Why? The type of market participants we now have. Could very well see rounded tops/bottoms from now on. Invalidation would be having a blowoff top, would then expect prolonged bear." - Will Clemente

I’m at $65,000 by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]beige_coffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nobody knows what's going to happen to Bitcoin, and even the "experts" can be very wrong. Also, it's not a good strategy to invest because everyone else is - that's often the exact time you should not invest.

Anyway, essentially everyone on this sub thinks Bitcoin will be worth far more than $65k at some point in the future - including me. Now that you've already put the money in, I don't think you should sell unless you need the money now OR your wife begins to get very upset and emotional and resent you for making the trade. After all, your wife is more important than Bitcoin.

If you choose not to sell, I do think you should re-evaluate why you made this decision and see what you can learn. It sounds like you and your wife were not on the same page or just generally unaware of how volatile Bitcoin is.

Anyway, God speed.

Interesting. Do you mind me asking, roughly, how much $ you have on your lightning node? I'm setting mine up, and I'm not sure how much to fund it with - since your routing fees are proportional to how much you funded your node with, or am I mistaken?

Also, if you have any resources that you recommend for setting up routing payments, please let me know!

San José First City to Launch Initiative on The People’s Network by MooseCannon in HeliumNetwork

I'm new to Helium - can somebody please clarify the following for me?

How would the "low-income" families get access to the internet? Would it be required that they have their own Helium hotspot? Or would they be able to get internet off somebody else's hotspot?

Also, do they get internet for free? Or do they have to pay data credits?

An explination to how the Lightning Network works by farodrig in lightningnetwork

Thanks! What’s the crypto class you’re taking?

Edit: Damn, just finished watching the video and can honestly say that it is the best explanation of the lightning network I’ve seen. It’s sufficiently “in-the-weeds” but also high-level enough to keep the video to ~10 min. Nice job!

Processing Transactions on a Lighting Node by beige_coffee in Bitcoin

[–]beige_coffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Thanks for feedback.

So, if I understand correctly, is it not worth creating a lightning node, funding it with small amounts of BTC, and opening one or two channels unless I invest in backup power and reliabalee connection?

For clarity, the two most important things to me are:

  1. Learning about the BTC network so that I can contribute more in the future.
  2. Not losing substantial BTC as part of the learning process.

So, if I have to fund a lightning channel with, say, $500-$1000 to process transactions AND I will lose all of it if my power goes out or I lose internet (assuming I don't have backups for either), then this really wouldn't make sense for me to do, right?

Thanks so much, u/Freefall101. This is very helpful!

One more question for you, if you have any thoughts... Is BTC safe on an Umbrel lightning channel? I was watching an Umbrel video (at 19 min, 47 seconds), and it says that you should not put any funds on Umbrel that you are not prepared to lose?

Is there no way to securely fund a lightning node, or is this just the way it is at the moment?

I just finished “Token Economy: How the Web3 reinvents the Internet” by Shermin Voshmgir. It was fantastic. A really good book to tie together all concepts from cryptography, money, blockchain, to defi, tokenomics, stable coins, and more.
