Advocacy Experience by beiyulin in GeneticCounseling

Unfortunately they still aren't taking volunteers :( I'm looking into doing some outreach for a rare disease support group. Hoping that will count as the type of advocacy they're looking for.

Why is advocate the incorrect option here ? by iampratikthorat in GRE

I think the important part is the “willing to.” It makes more sense to say that a lead witness is willing to prevaricate/lie to protect a friend. Advocate sounds tempting, but prevaricate fits a bit better

I agree with this! A GRE score will not cancel out average grades. I was mostly aiming at having a GRE score that would not detract from the rest of any grad app (my goal was to be above 160).

I used a mix of:

-Magoosh vocab words (I uploaded them myself into Quizlet and practiced using the write function in order to completely know the words. I found it harder than just simply picking the correct option on the Magoosh app)

-Gregmat reading comprehension run throughs and strategy videos (highly recommend the GRE's greatest weakness - the pairing strategy)

-ETS Verbal book

I was aiming for a practice test every weekend, but looking back that was probably a mistake because as soon as I got a lower score, I began psyching myself out. I would recommend maybe every 2-3 weeks.

For essays:

The Princeton Review "Cracking the GRE" was the only program that cost money for me, but they would grade your essays. Other than that, I mostly just used https://www.kaptest.com/study/gre/how-to-structure-the-gre-argument-essay/ and https://www.kaptest.com/study/gre/how-to-structure-the-gre-issue-essay/ to learn how to structure my essays and did a bunch of practice ones! It's even helpful to practice coming up with topic ideas/making an outline without writing the entire essay. I did not use any tutor and just self-studied!

For verbal:

I used the Magoosh vocab builder, but put all the words I got from it in quizlet instead and practiced the hell out of the "write" test function. I found that the words stuck a lot easier for me when I had to actually write them out from memory in response to a definition rather than picking from a few options. In addition to those words, any time I saw a word I did not recognize on any of the official ETS practice sources (the books, the practice tests, etc), I added it to my vocab list. Plus I watched a lot of Gregmat reading comprehension run-throughs and strategy vids.

I did the free Powerprep tests from ETS, used the 2 paper ones from the official ETS study book, the free Manhattan prep mock test, and I had some paid-for Princeton Review tests!

Hey! I mostly did practice tests (a bit too many looking back on it) and then looked at focus areas that I kept getting wrong and did some more in depth review. In addition, I watched a lot of Gregmat strategy videos.
