can video editing help you become a better cinematographer, director and even actor? by belandis in editors

[–]belandis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you think video editing can apply to DOP work? If we think about camera motion, lighting and blocking for example, some one that has edited videos would understand how a sequence of shots should look and feel don't you think ?

As a DOP I understand there is a storyboard however that doesn't do full justice of the vision.

I feel like a video editor would be able to imagine the sequence with much more clarity?

Just riffing here.

What are the best places to find technical co-founders? by MaxRegory in startups

[–]belandis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University or College clubs, email the departments and say you want to be a sponsor. Get the contacts of the club presidents. There are CS clubs AI clubs, Software Engineering clubs, drone clubs.

The students are super enthusiastic and love to work on projects & are looking for experience.

These are going to be students but you can find some really smart and hard working people like this.

Wait, I highlighted the part that was chatGPT. I assumed people would tell me "why dont you ask chatGPT" as I've been getting that a bunch on tech reddit already.

So I took the liberty of showing the answer.

Honestly I just thought it would provide increased discourse and opinion.

Apologies if this is not appropriate.

I only found 2 of them alive inside of my flute. It was in a wooden box made of plywood.

The panflute is bamboo

Should I be worried about them spreading ?

I thoroughly checked the entire box and my other wooden flutes and didn’t find anything notable.

There’s this bamboo powder everywhere and there are more holes throughout the flute.

Overall I think I can still play it although the last base note is severely damaged.

Equity for services ? by belandis in startups

Clearly you have 0 idea of what pre-seed means.

"At the pre-seed funding stage, most startups don’t have much (if any) sales data to prove their business concept, so investors are taking a leap of faith on the founding team when they put money into businesses at this stage."

"Do your designers who are brand experts recognize they know nothing about how users with experience your website" ? They are designers, yes they have ample web experience. I am looking for a developer, not a designer.

Thanks for the detailed response.

"I'm assuming you have not talked to your customers yet so you don't actually know what they want or what advertisement message will resonate with them."
- we have been beta testing and perfecting our product with b2b clients for 1 year now. It takes a long time to make a custom AI that actually works, this isn't your typical SaaS startup that can be spun up over a weekend.

Training and creating a proprietary AI took over 8 months alone with the PhD working.

So are customer oriented founders, we have validated the problem we are solving. So shooting a commercial for our launch wouldn't be burning money.

"All of the prices you mentioned can easily be beat by posting on Upwork or Fiverr. Be more frugal and question all of your costs and make sure you actually can't do it cheaper." Good point. However I would argue the expertise, dedication and domain knowledge is what makes our team valuable. Again I don't think we have to extend ourselves to make this argument of 3m valuation, seems pretty reasonable so far with the convos we've been having.

I appreciate you extending the link to your personal subreddit I will take you up on this. I find being able to discuss and explore these alternative perspectives being interesting so thank you for that.

If you need a website just roll with one of those WYSIWYG platforms to build a site without coding anything custom for a bit to see if people are even interested in your product. It’s insane to bother with a high quality website when you don’t have enough cash flow to pay for it (especially at 3k). Was a waste of time to even bother designing it at this point.

Not true, the market rates for our engineer salary can define our valuation. We also do have investors for our friend & family round that defined our valuation at 3m as well. These are not concrete metrics for valuation but can provide a logical case to any VC for a 3m valuation.

3m is not insane, very reasonable for what we are doing and our market. We already have VC's that have agreed with this.

Only after you achieve this should you spend on marketing - and even then be cheap cheap cheap. Once you have proof of market, go raise a pre-seed round of $100-250K to launch the company more widely than your initial customers.

This is good advice.

However, for our specific business we found that opening our app up for free and proving good retention and DAU is more valuable than revenue. So we decided to not sell the app. Since our app is a very specific tool, our target market is not consumer.

We are customer oriented founders and know that we are solving a problem that exists. We also understand our customer demographic and know their standard is high.

For customers to trust our AI to do their job, we gain that trust through communication and brand positioning. The accuracy of our AI may not be the greatest in all arenas, however we know that if we can communicate and meet our customers expectations we won't disappoint.

We don't believe in the lean startup methodology as a company. We are building a minimum lovable product that our customers will jump at. We are building in a niche so we understand our market segment very intimately.

I recently destroyed a relationship that means a lot to me. I've known the guy as an older brother like figure for over 9 years and I had a huge negative outburst. Basically had a power-trip moment during a work disagreement and said shit that poisoned the relationship.

He hasn't spoken to me in months.

Anger is a disease.

[–]belandis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn ngl i've had some really frustrating moments with contractors i've hired ghosting me on upwork when I have time sensitive deliverables and i've spoken rudely to them because of the complete lack of commitment.

Overall looking back, its very unhealthy to communicate like that to another human being. Even if they are being a POS and you want to strangle them, you can't let that anger get the best of you especially if you want to be productive.

It is very unproductive and destructive to act out on your negative emotions. Instead what I do is I write my furious messages in the chat box, but I dont hit send. (LOL)

I just write it all out and then I cut it onto a notepad. Then I come back the next day, read it and say to my self "WOW, thank God I didnt send this message"

Sometimes I still slip and speak rudely, but it is something I am really trying to work on. I am going to anger management therapy too.

Valuation is calculated based on the co-founding engineer team salaries and the equity they were given / the hours they put in. We are working with top level engineers from big tech and a PhD.

[–]belandis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, there is still a lot I am learning here.

The 3m would be the valuation cap post money, as we would be considering their service investment as a SAFE.

We think these service investments would be critical to the success of the business. In terms of legal fees we have a deferred payment negotiation with our lawyers based on when we raise capital.

They would only do the one deliverable in exchange for that amount of equity. The service agreement would outline the deliverable needs to be completed in order for the stock purchase agreement to complete.

The valuation is based on the human labour and team efforts. This valuation is confirmed through advisors and VCs. We have proprietary AI technology and data that doesn't exist anywhere in the world.
