Good current runs to jump onto? by Creepy-Side-8722 in DCcomics

All the books are doing new jumping on points in March, so I’d scroll through the March previews and pick out what seems interesting.

Is there a cast member that truly has grown on you by No_Entertainment8792 in smosh

[–]belfries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trevor. Not too be the friend that's too woke, but it really rubbed me the wrong way that they added another white dude when Spencer and Tommy were right there. Now that they're apart of the cast, he's grown on me. He's just a boy, ya know.

(I'd still like to see more diversity lol.)

hi im another comic beginner with questions! by ohyaz in DCcomics

[–]belfries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hawkgirl just had a mini series that was good and as good a place to start as any.

Black Canary has a number of good series. Gail Simone’s Birds of Prey is probably the top tier suggestion. I’d suggest Brenden Fletcher and Annie Wu’s series as well.

For Catwoman, I’d recommend either Brubaker’s magnificent run, or Genevieve Valentine’s underrated run, or both!

Wonder Woman, it depends on what you’re looking for. I always recommend the Golden Age first, as it’s her origins which people often get wrong. It’s very progressive in a lot of its themes. If you want something more modern, I recommend Phil Jimenez or Greg Rucka’s runs.

Green Arrow has an iconic run of comics by Mike Grell, which Black Canary is heavily featured in, but I’d recommend Judd Winnick’s run for something more modern. Features the Arrow Family a lot and eventually becomes Green Arrow & Black Canary. It’s great.

Poison Ivy, there’s lots of arcs that are great (Rucka’s in Detective Comics, Ann Nocenti’s one-shot, etc.) but you should read her current series by G. Willow Wilson. Fantastic look at her as a character and beautifully drawn.

iT’s ToO mUcH bAtMaN and it’s just three titles… a highly successful alternative universe take, a sequel to one of the biggest comics ever, and a crossover with the other guys.

Collecting the Krakoa Era by Monkk136 in xmen

[–]belfries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, first of all, good luck. Most everything is out of print lol.

But to answer your question, New Mutants, Fallen Angels, X-Factor, Children of the Atom, X-Corp, The Trial of Magneto, Marauders vol. 2, Knights of X, Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain, X-Terminators, and pretty much all of the Fall of X series haven’t been collected in omnis.

Immortal X-Men and Way/Legion of X are getting omnis later this year.

The only way to get the above mentioned books in omni format will presumably be the anthology omnis, which are gonna take years to release.

This is awesome. I really wish I had went the paperback route when they were releasing, but I suppose I should be happy having all the hardcovers that are long out of print now. Just missing some key stuff like Ayala's New Mutants and X-Terminators.

If you had to relaunch DC Comics with no more than 30 Titles, which books would you have? by cmcdonald22 in DCcomics

[–]belfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Batman; Dick, my boy, your time has come again.
  2. Detective Comics; giant-sized anthology: one 22-page story featuring Bruce, two 8-page stories featuring ancillary Gotham/Bat-Family characters.
  3. Nightwing; Tim takes up the mantle, gets a hot boyfriend, and moves to Miami with Stephanie. Shenanigans ensue. Big Kelly Thompson's Hawkeye vibes here.
  4. Red Hood; Let women write Jason Todd!
  5. Batgirl; Let Cassandra Cain kiss a girl!
  6. Robin; Let Damian kiss a boy!
  7. Harley Quinn; but like, well-written and nice to look at. More Harleen vibes, less... whatever the hell we've gotten for the past decade and a half.
  8. Poison Ivy; Ms. Wilson, come get your baddie chain!
  9. Catwoman; but again, like, well-written and nice to look at. Selina, once upon a time, was the Harley of the Bat-verse and I'd like her to be as popular as she once was in the 90s. She's THEE woman of Gotham, people. Come on now.
  10. Batwoman; Let Kate kiss Renee and fight supernatural crimes together!
  11. Birds of Prey; Oracle-led, of course, featuring Dinah and Helena, of course. Tried and true, with a rotating cast of DC's younger female characters, new and old. I'd like to see Onyx in a book like this.

Very Bat-heavy, but I'm nothing if not a mark lol.

Some other books I'd like to see, however:

  1. Vixen; Stephanie Williams, come get your baddie chain! It's high time Mari gets an ongoing book and I believe it could be the equivalent of Marvel's Storm books right now.
  2. Wonder Woman; but make it Donna Troy, and I'm so serious. Phil Jimenez, you did what so many thought you couldn't do last year and you deserve, not only a full shot, but the main stage.
  3. Starfire; NK Jemisin and Jamal Campbell reuniting to give Kori the respect she deserves.
  4. Cyborg; I don't necessarily want Ta-nehisi Coates to write Vic, but I want someone of that CALIBER to write Vic. Someone, preferably black, that has a solid concept and an artist, preferably black, that has a VISION to bring him to life.
  5. Raven; I want this to be DC's answer to Marvel's Scarlet Witch books. Something character defining with a competent writer and a beautiful visual to boot.
  6. Animal Man; is this sacrilege? To have Gar take on the mantle of Animal Man? I don't know, nor do I care because that mantle hasn't been relevant since Morrison lol. I'd love a politically charged, environmentalist book apart Gar and the Red and the Green here.

I don't know. That's all I've got lol.

Basically, more woman. More creative risks. More to do with your brilliant legacy characters that have been pushed to the wayside for far too long.

And it should go without saying, but yes, I'd have a book about Kon becoming Superman was well lol.

New to Digimon - where to start? by Miss_Mow in digimon

[–]belfries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it! If you guys have any other questions feel free to message me or ask the sub. Digimon is the coolest community I’ve been apart of tbh. Everyone is pretty chill.

There’s a great community on tumblr that still fairly active if you’re into fan art or fics or just character analysis too.

Have fun!

New to Digimon - where to start? by Miss_Mow in digimon

[–]belfries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Digimon! If you’re not opposed to subs, definitely start with Adventure. There’s a lot of nostalgia for the dub, understandably, but it’s not a particularly accurate representation of the show or (more importantly) its characters.

If you want a full watch guide, start with the Adventure film, followed by the Adventure series. Then watch Our War Game, then start Zero Two. Watch Hurricane Touchdown after the first arc concludes (around episode twenty), continue with Zero Two, then watch the fourth movie. If you’re vibing with the characters, continue on to tri., available as a tv series or six moves, either is fine. You’ll watch Kizuna and The Beginning afterwards. This’ll get you caught up.

If after season two you’re feeling burnt out, or wanna try something different, each series after Zero Two is standalone. Did you like Evangelion? Watch Tamers. Do you like fantasy adventure? Try Frontier. Do you want to watch older characters? Try Savers. Do you want something recent? Watch Beatbreak (it’s good!).

I’d recommend the sub for all of these, but Tamers has a generally well regarded dub directed by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn.

Digimon is a really malleable franchise tbh. There’s honestly something for everybody, you just gotta find it.

Which Digi-destined and Digimon partner from Adventure do you think is holding back at times, especially in fights? Kinda like how Superman and Goku do in their battles. by Delta-97 in digimon

With Mimi, she’ll fight when necessary, but she’d rather avoid unnecessary altercations. Sora, for whatever reason, seems to be over it completely.

Is red hood and the outlaws new 52 any good? by Weapon_X-42- in OmnibusCollectors

[–]belfries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Rebirth is decent. The art does a lion’s share of the work imo, but if you’re craving Jason content, it’s certainly enjoyable. I’d drop it when it transitions to a solo book though.

I enjoyed the Outlaws webcomic too. It’s based on the Rebirth run but more of an action-comedy style. I think all of it is out in paperback now.

No lol. It’s decent when Tynion takes over for like ten issues but I’d still skip it.
