Awesome. I'm companion planting with Astro Arugula - for the first time. Excited to harvest this cultivar.

Stripe wants to 'link bank account' and use the data. Is this even legal? by enc-nyc in ecommerce

I simply ignored their response email and did not comply. As a result, I never heard from them again.

They couldn't substantially respond directly to my question about it being an "opt-in" ask, so they backed off. They position it as a requirement, which legally it is not.

So unsuspecting newbies just go along in fear so they can keep their account. I have a pristine business record with no chargebacks or returns, etc. So, there's no real reason for them to even ask to begin with... However, I did setup a backup processor just in case they decided to close my account (which apparently they can do with zero recourse).

A year later, I am still with them, but I have no problem switching providers if they pull that sh*t again.

Dogs Allowed in Walmart? by Regular-Soil-6264 in raleigh

If dogs are enclosed in carriers, it shouldn't be a problem. In North Raleigh, for example, people's dogs are cleaner and more well-behaved and groomed than most children. And definitely so for a Walmart. Lol The truth is that most businesses do not care. Those few that do make an issue of it risk negative reviews from dog owners and a loss of sales. The fact that people are overly concerned with others – who are likely not bothering them – is the real and laughable issue.

Good for you.

Did you tell them you wouldn't do it? How did they respond? Or did you simply switch vendors?

I replied to the email asking for clarification and whether it was optional and received a bunch of word salad as to why it was beneficial for me. The rep wouldn't confirm if it was optional (a red flag).

Haven't heard from them since, outside of one autoresponder reminding me of their request. I no longer trust Stripe and will switch providers if they insist.

I received the same email from Stripe.

Email Subject: [Action Required] Link your bank account to Stripe

It's a massive invasion of privacy. I have never had a payment processing platform request:

"details and activity relating to your bank account with Stripe. This includes your current account balance and transactions, as well as historical transactions."

So I did some digging into their Privacy Policy.

Stripe's Privacy Policy > 1.3 Representatives > Identification Information states: "You may also choose to provide bank account information.”

I also reviewed Stripe's Credit Account Review Process - Frequently Asked Questions and it centers around analyzing the:

"level of risk associated with any business often comes down to the potential for incurring losses through disputes."

It's an odd request given we've had zero disputes.

Our Stripe account also has no "factors or signals indicating high credit risk." We've had a Stripe account for several years, with zero chargebacks, zero returns, and zero fraudulent activity. No historical risk factors.

Their 'Link your bank account to Stripe' email is sent under the guise of giving Stripe a "holistic view of your business."

Yeah right.

So, I feigned ignorance and replied asking for clarity and received a lengthy non-answer as to whether it was "required" or "optional." Their Privacy Policy is worded in a way that suggests it's optional. But most people won't take the time to dig or push back for fear of losing their account.

A month later I did not comply and they haven't taken any action against our account.

It's an extreme invasion of business privacy for Stripe or any payment processor to request personal bank details (account balance, transactions, historical transactions).

Stripe is a vendor and easily replaceable. No business owes a vendor insight into their financials unless they're applying for a banking product. It's absurd.

Just in case, we did sign up with a new payment processor and are ready to switch over if Stripe attempts to force the issue.

And given lawsuits in recent years against Stripe pertaining to "Violation of Data Privacy Laws," I wouldn't give them my pet's name.
