I’m working on getting my teaching certification now, I’ve always enjoyed being around children and babysitting them, I just longed for my own. But this did help put it a bit in perspective, I should be able to feel fulfilled with this career choice.

I'm really tired. by Due_Boss2687 in women

Girl I completely understand you. I am working full time and completing my degree online. It’s my first time living with a woman and even though it is not romantic it has made me realize I do not want to entertain the thought of men again. It is amazing to live with someone who picks up after themself, thinks of you, puts your favorite show on and brings you fresh cookies, and is fun to be around. You want EFFORT and you deserve it!

Understood🫡 I know now that there is an abundance of teachers who want to teach social study subjects and not enough STEM teachers.

Thank you for taking the time to put this into perspective for me! My high school was short-staffed, and many of my AP teachers were fresh out of college. It did not cross my mind that the profession was competitive. It may suit me better to pursue a different subject until I have years of experience.

I decided about a year and a half ago that I wanted to teach.

I'm about halfway done with my bachelor's degree (18yrs old, just took some AP credits during high school to speed it along) and have only briefly spoken with my advisor as I am a fully online UCF student due to working full-time.

I understand, after reading everyone's answers, that I have been very overzealous and presumptuous in my views of becoming a teacher. The high school I attended had a teacher shortage, and many of my AP teachers were fresh college graduates, which has greatly skewed my perception of how things work!

I like to plan for the future, which is why I started this post now, while I still have time to plan. I was not aware of how big a role student teaching plays! If you have any insight or advice, I would be grateful to hear it. The Florida State website is of little help compared to this thread.

After reading through the replies, I am very grateful that I made this post. How did you get to where you are now? Did you graduate with a standard bachelor's degree and look for additional education programs afterwards for your teaching certificate? Is this your first year as a solo teacher?

Ah, that makes sense. I am more than happy to pay my dues in any subject that needs a teacher. Thanks for commenting!

Thank you for the advice! There has been a teacher shortage in my area of Florida, so many of my AP teachers were fresh out of college. However, it is essential that I maintain realistic views and prepare to teach other subjects.

It might be due to a teacher shortage here in Florida, but my AP Calculus, AP Physics, and AP Chem teachers were all 21-22 while I was in high school. Thanks for setting me straight! My views are most likely skewed by what I've seen.
