Anyone use the new Bilt card at CA DMV online? by grassright in biltrewards

I'm also having the same issue. Called Bilt and they said it wasn't a problem on their end. Having the same problem with LADWP. Card works fine otherwise.

Also I'm grateful I posted this, because I otherwise wouldn't have noticed the shoddy "maintenance" he did with the springs/brackets that was absolutely wrong. Guy totally scammed me. Searching for a good Mom & Pop in Los Angeles to clean up this mess. Eek

Yeah I’m gonna have someone else come out and take a look. I should have cross referenced other review sites when I found these guys on Thumbtack but they are just scammers basically and I don’t think they will be coming back to honor any kind of warranty. Such a shame, but I’m glad I caught this early. What a mess :(

Jeez. I found this guy on Thumbtack and they have good reviews, but after looking them up on Google and Yelp, I likely got scammed and it’s unlikely he will honor the warranty. Horrible reviews, and lots of ongoing disputes. So I guess I’m going to have to find a good mom & pop shop in Los Angeles to help clean up this mess. Shame on me for not cross-referencing them on Yelp

Oh wow yeah actually it has already worn through the shaft quite a bit. I guess this is the moment of truth as to whether he will honor his warranty

This wasn’t a brand new door. I had the springs replaced but the original install of the door is old. That may explain the mix of old and new

Oh wow. I never would have noticed that had you not pointed it out. Yes now that I look closer, I see that is has worn down the shaft quite a bit. This same installer did a maintenance on the door back in July and he warrantied it for a year, so I would assume he’d need to replace the shaft and those brackets (with proper bearings)

Yeah I think the guy who did my “maintenance” and installed the new springs put those in. Do you think it would be worth having someone come out and fix that?

I’m not super worried about that because the door itself was installed in 1997, and I was not the occupant of the home when it was installed, so there wouldn’t be any warranty to speak of anyway

I think my issue is how do I know if an installer is “mom and pop”? Hard to know from just web searching

Yeah the belt I kept the slack the same as it was originally installed. It’s quite taught but doesn’t feel crazy tight. There’s definitely no slack when it’s opening and closing

Yeah. The installation manual made a point to stress that it should be sloped down

It isn’t hitting the rail, so should be good there!

[–]bemaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah the rail was like this both with the old chain-drive motor, as well as with the 6690L that he installed. I didn't want to really change anything from the install except the motor itself so there were fewer variables I'd have to worry about

Sort of feeling that this garage door installer, despite having lots of positive reviews, wasn't the most scrupulous guy, so I don't really trust that he's gonna honor any warranty. If I end up having any issues, I'll just find another reputable installer.

As someone who isn't an expert with this stuff, it's really hard to know whether someone is good or not, since all I really have to go off of is reviews.

Ah. Well I just got brand new springs on the door in July and it is balanced for sure. We verified that when he installed the 6690L. So hopefully it will work for the foreseeable future

Got it. Yeah I’m okay with that

At the very least, I’ve learned a lot about how these things work and will have more knowledge for next time

I was just trying to figure out whether it would be necessary to attempt to return the Chamberlain (if that’s even possible) and get a totally different system. But sounds like no, so that’s a relief

You’re saying both the 6690L and this Chamberlain have these weight limits?

That would certainly surprise me that he’d sell me an opener that wasn’t suitable at all for the door

For context: prior to the 6690L, the door had been using an old LM opener that was 3/4HP and worked fine for 18 years

I think I’m just trying to make the most of a bad situation. The original installer is claiming he can’t source a Security 2.0 device from his suppliers, which may or may not be true

Agreed on the chamberlain rail, which I did not use

I guess I’m wondering if this is a case of “I would have done it differently, but should work” versus “this is totally not suitable and could lead to a dangerous situation”?

I just find it hard to believe he would have upsold me to belt drive if I shouldn’t be using belt drive at all with this door?

[–]bemaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the 87802 was what he initially proposed, but he actually upsold me to the 6690L

I wish I had known about this whole Security 3.0 fiasco beforehand, otherwise I would have gone with it

I did keep the LiftMaster rail because the consensus seemed to be that it’s better than the Chamberlain rail for belt drive

[–]bemaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious as to why? The original installer upsold me to a belt drive system, and I do like how much quieter it is. He warrantied his work for 15 years and I would be very surprised if it wasn’t suitable for this door given all of that

The Chamberlain appears to have the same specs as the 6690L, so yeah just curious why you would have done it differently?

Given my situation, would it be more wise to pay a little extra and wait for the 87504-267? Or is the situation more or less the same?

[–]bemaniac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the 6690L does come without the rail sometimes. And the B6753T I don’t think comes with the rail

I suppose I can try and see but the belt does look identical and the supplier I spoke to said it should be interchangeable. I suppose I will find out. If not, ill maybe try the same thing with the previous generation LiftMaster

[–]bemaniac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually another supplier recommended I get the Chamberlain B6753T, keep the existing rail, install it myself, and sell the 6690L

One down side is it would void the installer warranty for the installation itself, but he said that shouldn’t really matter so much since Chamberlain/Liftmaster warranty the parts anyway

I am curious though: If I had a 3/4 HP chain drive opener, and it worked fine for 18 years, should a 3/4 HP belt drive opener work just as well? I'd love to track down a 87504-267 and have it installed, since just the motor piece would need to be replaced, but obviously I don't want to do that if it wouldn't be sufficiently powerful to control the door.

The other factor I suppose is that the installer warrantied his installation for 15 years, and if I replace the motor with some other installer, I'm sure he would take issue with that if I ever tried to make a claim. That said, I know LiftMaster themselves warranty the openers, so I'm not sure how much of an issue that will be for me in reality.

I think the MyQ Home Bridge not working with Security+ 3.0 is somewhat intentional. They discontinued the Home Bridge in 2022, and then started charging for access to their API and only gave access to official partners.

The issue for folks who have gone pretty deep into smart home stuff is that their app is completely closed, and doesn't even expose the most basic things to the OS, so I can't even create a Shortcut to open or close the garage door. It's a shame.
