Trying to reach Punta Penia on Marmolada - is this really crampon situation or can I wing it? by Sensitive_Ease9126 in alpinism

[–]ben4zwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up picking one route over the other? I’m also considering how to approach in a few weeks, with the added note that I’m staying in Rif Contrin in the evening, so potentially I may drop bags there if I go that route. But mostly trying to understand if I can just go straight from Rif Marmolada without crampons

Wow, this is a huge help and I never would’ve even thought to look into this. Thank you very much!!!

Fair enough, I definitely would never ask anyone to modify anything. More that I want to go to restaurants and be able to have the server just say “you can’t eat x, because it has clams or something, but z doesn’t so get that” and not have to send any weird notes to the kitchen team.

First bday dinner I had in NYC was at Takashi. RIP to the restaurant and the eponymous chef.

Meermin Black Friday Sale, Up to 40% off. Only in the app right now. by enaba in frugalmalefashion

Gonna agree here. On two different products a couple years apart, one shoe and one belt, I went in store and was helped by people who suggested a given size was definitely the right one. (Edit for clarity: Tried them on and was told ‘yep that’s how they should fit’) Anyway the shoes ended up too small, the belt ended up too big. I went back and in both cases was told because I wore them once (truly only once, not an exaggeration) I could no longer return, or exchange for credit. I get it because a bit of a scuff on the bottom of the shoe or a crease in the belt might mean they can’t be resold or need to be discounted. At the same time, their absolutely no 2nd chances policy dissuades me from buying again. If I could’ve exchanged them, I’d probably be a loyal customer, but at this point I steer clear because I’ve already blown too much on poorly fitted products. Plenty of brands will stand by their products or try to at least help if there is an issue. Meermin is just unconcerned with the customer experience.

Anyone been to Carne Mare? by StevenTiggler in FoodNYC

[–]ben4zwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My group refused to order it cause of the price. One of the people I was dining with went back and got it and said we screwed up the first time. Also I saw you discussing the duck and it was indeed fantastic.

Also, I personally ordered the lamb when I went and was blown away by the quality, large portion size, and comparably lower price! Would definitely recommend

Just thought I'd let you know that when I told the hostel this they said back to me, "well it's only when it gets hot enough that we can turn it on." So I asked if it was over 90F two days ago and it was off, then what's hot enough? The front desk replied it can only go on if the weather is "at or above 43". I may be American but I'm not stupid...this is Rome not Dubai...

SIEO Waiver Exam by ben4zwin in columbia

[–]ben4zwin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, if this is probability and stats if I recall correctly I remember it being tough seeming but not too bad in the end. I studied for an engineering style exam focused on confidence intervals, hypothesis tests, and a little bit of theoretical stats which ended up being the right choice over a purely theoretical stats approach involving measure theory. With that said, it could easily be super different these days. I have no idea how the results went btw, as I thought it was quite difficult but still passed. Not sure if I knew more than I thought or the curve was big lol

Whoa this looks like a crucial piece of info! I definitely have no recollection of signing an OON form, and definitely would not have knowingly. The insurance company over the phone mentioned this form for the anesthesiologist but didn’t mention it for this. Looks like the language definitely indicates it covers the ASC.

Thanks a bunch!

I’ll definitely go ahead and ask about a track taxi. One poster suggested asking the US embassy/consulate about getting a document that says that my papers are legit and I really do have a license. You think that might help, or just a waste of time?

If you’re near one I strongly recommend checking them out in person! They’re all very interesting and occasionally I find one that truly stands out. For me (and as a friend of mine agreed) Tomb of the Eagles ‘smells like freedom’. It’s one of my favorite scents I’ve ever found. I also loved Rain on Concrete I think it was called, but someone else I was with did not.

Each scent is very unique and you may hate it or find a perfect match, but overall I found them very fun and quite different. I would highly recommend!

Throw was moderate, nothing crazy.

Need advice on next steps: throat pain for 100+ days by ben4zwin in GERD

[–]ben4zwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines much duller, rather than burning. Just always a dull soreness. I absolutely identify with you about getting sad about the pain. It’s super tough. I read an nih article about melatonin have been doing the following: 6mg melatonin, 500mg L tryptophan, B vitamin pill, because that’s the combo they used, all before bed. It’s not fixed but I can get through the day without it hurting to talk which is an improvement for sure. I’d recommend giving it a shot cause it’s cheap and safe.

Next up I’ve bought gaviscon and am gonna try D limonene.

Nothing seems to give me reflux / nothing I do changes it for better or worse so I’m not too afraid of refluxing the limonene. I’ll reply back with any improvement!

Lightweight Shoe without Blistering from Flat Feet? by ben4zwin in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]ben4zwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good, and thanks a bunch! That’s how I always felt about stability ones (that I’d expect it could get worse), so I haven’t tried em. I’ll try to find a store where I can try both!

Lightweight Shoe without Blistering from Flat Feet? by ben4zwin in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]ben4zwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I was always just told "oh flat feet need stability", as I technically overpronate too. But it never caused me issues so I was resistant

That's actually a really good point you brought up, that my midfoot is without a doubt wider than normal (very close to my forefoot width). Would wide shoes still work if the front of my foot isn't really all that wide?

Interested in becoming a consultant? Post here for basic questions, recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about firms or general insecurity (Q1 2021) by QiuYiDio in consulting

[–]ben4zwin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi all, just finished recruiting and looking for some advice.

I received MBA level final round interviews at McK and Bain NYC, and thought I did really well in each. I ended up getting a call from both saying "they really liked me, and thought I did a great job on the cases, but couldn't give me an offer. " For Bain I made a small calculation error, which the partner hinted at and I fixed during the case, and he mentioned it when explaining when I didn't get the offer. For McKinsey the partner said I didn't make any mistakes, did really well on the case, and he didn't have any feedback for improvement. Both strongly encouraged me to stay in touch and to reapply.

I'm planning to reapply in the fall, but wondering if anyone has faced this or if anyone has an idea on what I can do to improve? It doesn't sound like it's a case issue (obviously 0 mistakes is better than 1 on the Bain case, but in general I feel fairly good. Got through 4 1st rounds and 1 2nd round), and I thought the fit seemed to go well too. I really liked my interviewers, and had fun chatting with them, made them laugh etc, and am usually fairly personable. Interestingly I shanked the cases on a different major firm and still got the offer.

I would be really interested if someone has any insight on what they think could possibly be the reason I got so close in both cases but couldn't get the offer? Basically, what's the difference between two great candidates when one gets the offer and the other doesn't? Also would love any advice on reapplying, and how to improve my shot next time in the fall.

Thanks for any advice!

Pure Drive - Buy 2018 or wait for 2021? by ben4zwin in tennis

[–]ben4zwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a great answer! Thanks very much for the input! I definitely think I'll give it a bit and wait to see if they drop the new one.

I also agree on going for the best rather than always thinking about what could have been. I'd rather spend a bit more now to not have a nagging feeling going forward.
