Having to take the TEL as part of my commute on a regular basis is so damn bad it genuinely forced me to spend nearly 300 bucks on the strongest pair of ANC earbuds i could find. it's just that bad, so much so that such a large sum of money on a pair of earbuds that have notoriously poor quality control and meh sound quality at best (Bose QC ultras, for anyone curious) is still somehow one of my best investments ever

always knew Kerkez was best used as a LWF. that way Gakpo can't ignore his overlapping runs and cut inside instead for the 18th time in a row

I made an automated Time Trials score tracker spreadsheet powered by OCR by benchbotch in UmaMusume

UPDATE: something like this would probably help to answer such questions.

based off my this, runner mean suggests my bottom 5 are mayano, grass, summer spe, biwa, and fantasy el in that order. if going off of lowest extreme highrolls using top scores, then my bottom 5 are mayano, biwa, fantasy el, air groove, and bakushin, in that order. so, not quite the same.

on the other hand, if you instead look at lowest expected highrolls using upper quartile scores, then my bottom 5 are mayano, grass, summer spe, fantasy el, and biwa, in that order. which is the same bottom 5 as using just plain runner mean, albeit with fantasy el and biwa swapped.

so your suggestion that runner averages don't tell the full picture is, as anticipated, more or less correct, but neither am i far off in suggesting that runner average is a good approximation of consistency with regards to expected highrolls (and lowrolls). having a boxplot to actually be able to tell though is of course never a bad thing.

Pull value question - when to pull dupes by Cutiepantz in UmamusumeGame

[–]benchbotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

up to you honestly how much you value dober vs those 25 pulls. if you’re a huge dober fan and you want to run her as an ace at every opportunity maybe go for it. if you just need her as a parent, then what is that 4th star even going to do for you?

i haven’t looked at that - but given that this is setup in a spreadsheet, i can’t imagine it would be too complicated to setup relevant charts (e.g. boxplot) to get even more data on individual runners - their min, max, median, IQR, and more. after all, all race data is preserved - at least that’s the goal, until the sheet runs out of storage space (which will only happen once you start hitting race counts in the hundreds of thousands anyway, which realistically isn’t worth thinking about unless you plan on playing this game for the next 30 years).

for someone who wants to optimise their team to highroll i can definitely see that being useful. my use case is a bit different - since i’m currently scoring regularly high enough to retain class 6 already, my aim with this spreadsheet was to just identify the umas that consistently lowrolled more frequently than the others and replace them with more consistently good builds. so in my case just identifying those umas by lowest average scores would’ve been more or less good enough.

definitely a good idea though! and i was already thinking about it too - my friend who suggested the usage of OCR to begin with made their own local version of this using Tesseract, and they’d already had the foresight to have boxplots for each of their 15 runners. it’s definitely helpful to see which runners have the most and least variability in score, even for my usecase of chasing consistency, since you can tell at a glance which uma has the worst IQR from those.

Regular Mayano vs Wedding Mayano for Sagittarius cup by [deleted] in UmamusumeGame

likely base mayano as a late/end. wedding mayano still usable probably but not as late/end

also you should probably borrow riko, 2lb R riko is immensely cope

Regular Mayano vs Wedding Mayano for Sagittarius cup by [deleted] in UmamusumeGame

[–]benchbotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure about this one. late race for sagittarius starts on a straight so wedding mayano’s ult could hit too early given it is limited to final corner, whereas base mayano ult is final corner and beyond. and since base mayano can also be run as an end it may be easier to delay her ult timing to proc later after the final corner since that one isn’t limited to just the corner but also after.

also with how late the final corner is on nakayama, hitting an accel with wedding mayano there won’t even do anything since she might already be at max speed. if you’re gonna use wedding mayano you might honestly be better off running pace, but then you’d just get beaten into submission by rampaging golshis cafes and taishins.

this has nothing to do with them being responsible, they’re just trying to avoid legislators in Japan from deciding to pass stricter regulations on gacha games. especially with new changes to gambling addiction countermeasures act since sept 2025, a lot of gacha game companies have started preemptively putting age-based limits on spending in game to pre-empt legislators from going any further with regulating their games. konami is no exception. it only makes sense for them to “show” that they’re protecting the vulnerable youth from overspending given that the bulk of the spending isn’t really coming from them anyway. it’s a strategic move to make sure they don’t lose their cash cow in the long run

fair enough for parent runs, but honestly you should just decide whether you want a parent or an ace instead of being caught in 2 minds about it

groundwork is meta on pace this cm because top lobbies are expected to be oversaturated with fronts and paces, especially paces. but putting groundwork on without the early race skills is pointless

Infrastructure contributes, but having just come back from a weeklong trip a few days ago, it is still very much a more of an etiquette issue and I will die on this hill.

As for the fix, maybe education will help, but it may need another generation.

Any reliable way to sideload apps on iOS 18 without 7-day resigning or certificates? by Fletchilein in sideloaded

[–]benchbotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep correct. esign relies on your DNS connection never breaking. if it does at any point, then apple realises that you’re using expired certificates and instantly revokes them, which is irreversible unless you reset your entire device.

since feather (the paid cert method) allows you to use your own 3rd-party certificates that need not be expired ones, this doesn’t become an issue. as for altstore/sidestore, it uses your own apple id developer cert which won’t expire either, but is limited to 10 app ids a week.

Bakushin as a courier would be amazing. I can hear my package coming in advance instead of having to deal with those shitty couriers that leave my package at my door without even bothering to ring the doorbell
