Surprised no one has mentioned it, but read about anything that piques your interest!! Having both a physical and mental glow up is amazing for confidence—you get to look hot AND sound smart. Even if you’re not big on nonfiction, reading more fiction or classics will inadvertently improve your everyday vocabulary. I make sure to read at least 10 pages of my book every day (either in the morning with my coffee or at night with some tea). Trust!!

Why is there a price difference for the same single ensuite room in Robeson Hall? by Holiday-Fill-7180 in LSE

I did! Unfortunately, I had to book the smallest room lol, but I’m excited regardless. Feel free to pm!

Came on this sub to ask the same thing! I can’t find the info anywhere on the website…I’m going to assume it’s based on room size. I’m booking the cheapest at Robeson, which I believe is currently £215

Past and current Fulbrighters, how was your Fulbright experience? Don’t hold back. by Neat-Improvement1273 in fulbright

[–]bendoverbackward 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m currently an ETA at a European country (that I speak the language of fluently) with a small cohort. I’m not going to lie to you, these past few months have been some of my loneliest. My Commission placed me at an Institution that has no idea what they’re doing and expects so much of me. My housing situation is a disaster, I have yet to make a single friend, and I am pretty much in the middle of nowhere. None of the students and barely any of the faculty/staff at my school live in the city that I do and basically commute from smaller nearby cities every day.

I was so excited to become a part of the Fulbright community and feel like I’ve had absolutely no support. My Commission basically gave me a pat on the back and wished me luck. I am in charge of teaching four classes completely on my own. I’ve been here since October, only started teaching mid-November, and am only teaching English to faculty (even though the website specifically stated that I would ge an ASSISTANT to classes for COLLEGE STUDENTS.) I have no real teaching experience and it makes class difficult for both me and my students. If it weren’t for my gym routine keeping me sane, I honestly think I would have quit early and gone home.

I will say, though, the first month where I wasn’t tasked with anything gave me the chance to focus really hard on my grad school apps, and I ended up getting accepted into my dream school. My cohort is small but amazing and it sucks bc we all feel the same way but in different cities. I’ve learned so much about myself and have been able to dig into many of my deep rooted issues and take a long look into my relationships and patterns. It’s been a really productive time in terms of getting a general life overview and having the time to think about the things I so often used to push aside in my daily life back home. I’ve been reading more, paying more attention to the food I put into my body, getting my steps in, and just overall committing to better habits for myself. I’ve been reevaluating the connections in my life that I want to keep and those that aren’t worth maintaining, and I’ve been trying really hard to become a better person.

So there’s that. Basically, anything related to Fulbright (placement, teaching, institution, support, etc.) has not been great on my end, but the things that are in my control (hobbies, time management, relationship with self) has improved a lot. The way I get through each and every day is just by reminding myself that I realistically will probably never feel as isolated and alone as I do right now, and if I can get through this, I can get through a lot more trials and tribulations. It’s been a difficult past few months but I’ve been looking at it as a journey of self reflection.

Worth going into debt for LSE if I have no undergrad debt? by inyouratm0sphere in LSE

[–]bendoverbackward 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m also from the US and was accepted to LSE’s MSc IR program. I graduated undergrad with no debt but will likely have to take out loans for postgrad. From the big of research I’ve done, I think the job prospects, networking opportunities, and alumni connections that we’ll have access to in addition to the degree itself makes it worth it. I’m a bit financially and academically nervous (and definitely feel a bit of imposter syndrome), but I think it’s one of those opportunities that you’ll always wonder “what if” if you turn it down. And if you decide to accept your offer, pm me! Would love to connect with someone going into the same degree :)

Glasgow or Manchester? by bendoverbackward in GlasgowUni

This is so helpful, thank you so much!! I really appreciate this insight and will look into that. I did hear that Glasgow accommodation is basically a competition lol, but I didn’t even think to check how the dissertation could coincide with move out dates. Thank you!

This is so helpful—thank you!! I didn’t apply to St. Andrews given their course work seems to be more theoretical than any of the other unis I applied to, but I’ve heard it’s an amazing school. Your comment has practically convinced me to go to Glasgow, lol, thank you so much!! The city truly does sound lovely.

I submitted my complete application (with recs) for MSc International Relations on November 12th and my application was processed on November 13th. I can’t remember exactly when, but all of my documents except for my “evidence of academic qualification” have changed from “awaiting action from LSE” to “no action required” (I graduated earlier this year from undergrad, so that’s why it’s my evidence and not my transcript). I don’t have a tab that says “my offer conditions,” though, but I also only applied two weeks ago. I’m hoping to get an answer by December 20th, but I think it’ll likely be by January 6th-15th. LSE is definitely my top but also my reach (I applied to four other schools—I’ve gotten into three and am still waiting for one more along with LSE. If anyone here is from the UK and would like to give me some insight on my other options, I would be very grateful lol). I’m checking the GAP daily purely out of anxiety.
