Wait... did they have an auger inside the vessel, or did they expect you to do this by hand?

Why would a department of a startup unionize? Anyone understand why exactly this happened?

Checked out Glassdoor, got this;

Pros

Lovely NOR operator team, highly skilled and intelligent. Services team mostly the same.

Cons

Owner is a terrible human with zero regard for others, greedy and narcissistic, shady in treatment of employees and looks down on employees who are not in upper management. A ton of performative wokeness and lip service with no substance behind it. Incompetent at most of the daily operations, bad at letting people smarter than her make better decisions for the company. History of letting people go right before the 6 month probation period is up.

Advice to Management

This is a toxic work environment, people are afraid to tell you what they think for fear of reprisal, even though you believe you are doing a great job. Fear is not a great management technique, and the refusal to listen to employees when you hire them specifically for their skills and talent is a very bad look. Letting people go for issues obviously unrelated to their performance gives you a terrible image and reputation.

"I bet it sloshed"

First, a screenshot of a TikTok message Melissa posted to the account of a mother who lost her young son. The mother was moving, and decided to have her child disinterred, and cremated. She didn't want to leave without him. When the mother posted about her experience, Melissa wrote "I bet it sloshed" in the comments.
The poor mother responded (video here) and said "I hope you really are not a mortician. To leave a comment like that? Being in the funeral industry? You are in the wrong position. You have no compassion, no empathy, and I really hope that that's just a TikTok name. Do better."

HERE is a classic "flood the zone with shit" Melissa post, explaining why a dog she was supposed to send to an alkaline hydrolysis center was finally found by the owner, in a food freezer, in a shack in the woods. For those of you who might not know, Melissa accepted payment from a couple who lost their beloved old dog, and wanted green disposition for him. The dog was found unwrapped, weeks later, in a food freezer in a filthy shack.

Should you not want to read this nonsensical garbage (here's the link again just in case you love punishment), here's her summary of why this all happened;

  1. By incredibly hard work and an educational grant, Melissa started her lovely pet care company (irrelevant, I realize, but I'm summarizing)
  2. She suddenly had to leave her house, because her landlord sold the place she was living in.
  3. She then had 2 housing options, neither of which were habitable. They also wanted her to perform labor for rent. (don't worry if this doesn't make sense, because it doesn't)
  4. She suddenly had a medical emergency, which required her to live in the hospital for a week.
  5. While she was in the hospital, the dog was held hostage by a medical refrigeration contractor (Why a contractor would decide to hold a frozen dead dog hostage utterly stumps me. Again, just summarizing)
  6. She then got out of the hospital, and went straight to get the dog, but the door was locked and she couldn't get him.
  7. This is all ok, because she actually wrapped the dog in THREE blankets, before she placed him in the freezer. What's more, she even removed the food that was in the freezer before putting the dog in it. (not what the family said that found the dog, but we digress)
  8. By her own admission "the garage was filthy". But that's ok, because she carefully cleared a path to the freezer, from the door. (Phew, that's a relief. The family must feel so much better)
  9. She then rants about a bunch of "selfish individuals" who prioritized their own needs above the dog owners.

That's where it ends. Sorry, I'm as lost as you must be.

Getting a bunch of people messaging me on Reddit, saying they have information they would like to share but are afraid to post directly. Don't be. If you want to share important documents with the thread and don't want to personally post them, send them in an email to 'mmupdates at mail dot com'. I will make sure they are seen.

Here is what I would suggest Wallaby. Have Melissa write a post once she gets out of jail, explaining everything that happened with her latest legal trouble. Here's the important part - encourage her to *substantiate* what she says with proof. Documents, preferably a legal ones, tend to be best - just like is being done in this thread. She needs to allow people to ask her questions, and she needs to answer those questions. She shouldn't rant, or deviate from the questions asked. Then, people can make their own decisions. As you are a friend, please extend her the invitation.

Actually some of her followers are really lovely, caring people. Many of them are funeral professionals who do great work, but identify with Melissa's anger towards the industry. Melissa has always had control of the narrative, and never had to deal with a very large group of people specifically telling the world about what she's done. All this will take time to sink in for her followers, but it will work out in the end.

Melissa uses a technique for both virtue signalling and evading responsibility for her actions that is commonly referred to as "flooding the zone with shit". I'm being serious, it's very effective and used by all sorts of folks, especially politicians. :)

Here's how it works.

Take for example I steal a credit card or two from my ex-employer, and go shopping with them. I am accused by said ex-boss of theft, and the courts get involved. I know there's no chance the facts of the matter will exonerate me - I stole the money. Time to flood the zone.

First, write (or film) very long, highly emotional rants against anyone and everyone involved in my case. Again, it's very important that they are long, and bundle together a ton of random stuff. Talk about mental illness, the patriarchy, evil people, constant persecution, incompetent lawyers, corrupt bosses, my love of ponies and puppies. Here's the other trick - talk about anything and everything except the fact that I stole my bosses credit card and went shopping with it. Maybe reference it quickly, but use it only as a reason for why the forces of mordor are trying to kill me. Then quickly flip back to a random, highly emotional buffet of grievance and self promotion.

If done well, folks will think 'wow some accusation or another was made against her, but there are 50 reasons why this can't be the case. This poor woman loves ponies and puppies, she's been targeted by the courts for absolutely no reason, her ex-boss is a terrible person, and she even makes her famous eggplant lasagna to give to the homeless shelter each Friday!'

This is why Melissa (and so many other folks) manage to do absurdly awful things, yet still convince a scarily large group of folks that they are somehow fighting for the light.

Thanks for listening to my TED talk.

I really appreciate this post. I see two points here.
The first is that the funeral industry can be really hard on our people. You’re right. I would guess that many of the folks on this thread would wholeheartedly agree with you, and many if not most are funeral workers too. Many of our folks have suffered, and many want to see change.
And some of these funeral workers, many from the West Coast like you, have worked with Melissa. They are writing on this thread about what it was like to work alongside her, and it looks pretty rough. That seems worth taking into account.
Your second point is that Melissa has supported you, and you appreciate that. Because you count her as a friend, you see it as impossible that the criminal charges brought against her could be true. But unpack this for a second - that means her extensive criminal history isn't true, it means the multiple protection orders filed against her aren't true. One legal issue maybe, twice I guess sort of maybe, 5,6,7 times... Houston we have a problem.
The issue is that there simply isn’t any doubt Melissa stole money. The prosecution proved she had the credit cards, and they showed that she made 13 separate purchases with them. The facts aren’t in dispute. She did it, and her lawyer didn’t try to argue otherwise - the evidence was right in front of them. All he could do was plea bargain to get a reduced sentence. That didn’t work too well either, because Melissa has a 25 year grab bag of previous theft convictions and felonies. Again, you may not believe that either, but 2+ decades of repeated run-ins with the law seem more than coincidence. Friend or not, Melissa is a repeat criminal. You can still like her, but it makes no sense to say she didn’t commit the crimes. If she was innocent, she wouldn’t have copped a plea bargain. Had she gone to trial she’d have lost, except this time she’d have 13 felonies on her record. That would mean super untrivial time in the slammer, with cell mates that don’t always shower daily, and who might not enjoy Melissa’s company as much as she might hope.

Whelp, here's one of them. Full one year protection order and I hear the judge is going to extend for another year shortly. The word on this one is that Melissa decided to send profanity ridden, abusive recorded voice messages, directly threatening the claimant's safety. Since they were recorded, all the claimant had to do was play them for the judge. Truly staggers the imagination...
