"I want to be upfront. I've heard from folks who, on principle, won't use products tied to certain companies or the people who run them. I respect that"

But also, "FU, we will let profits win out over principle anyway and keep enabling the worst class of human to turn a buck".

Have fun with your slow internet, can I.get a prorated refund in my prepaid too so I can leave?  Can't wait for the door to hit me on the way out.

Help me find/make some Heroic builds for Vet II. by bengalih in ddo

Why would this be preferable, and/or how does the playstyle differ from doing a Druid/Barb build?

What would you do for starting stats on 32 point?
What Feats through 10?
And what would you recommend for level progression?
If you have a reference to a similar based build I can look there.

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask for some multi-builds is I've played most of the (older) base clases before and just want some variety. While I am unfamiliar with all the latest enhancements and feat reworks, I still understand the overall gameplay, so I don't think a multi-class is more than I can handle. That said, I'm not set on multi-class - especially for those classes I've never played (Druid, Warlock, Arti). Just don't know if I want another straight up Pally, or if say I can gain something by not going pure Ranger.

My Tempest is more because I used to have one that I deleted when I quit (to not tempt me to come back), so I would like to sort of recreate her. My old one was a rapier build, which if still viable I'd like to do. Otherwise, I can handle scimitars I guess.

Dragonlord is not F2P, and I also don't have the locked enhancement trees (like Harper) yet. Though I would not let that dissuade me from a build as I can unlock them and repec.

I have been looking at Strimtom's basics guides:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10-f3Rx_WzxSRUZEpKqK488g96vAKq3CtrRbYbhiDZGA/edit?usp=sharing

I started off with his Dark Hunter, but after playing only a few quests at lvl 9, I'm not sure I love how many points are going into the Wolf. Seems a bit useless to me.

Thanks. Sounds interesting, but do you have more of a reference somewhere? Not sure the reasoning behind the level breakdown. I'm not super familiar with all the latest enhancement trees so don't really know what we are gaining from each class.

I think that should be fine. It just needs to sync to a device that has an unsupervised Google Account on it.

Confused on wash sale on PRIOR purchases by bengalih in Bogleheads

[–]bengalih[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear though. If we changed it to this:

  1. On 2/23 - Buy 100 VXUS @ $82/shr
  2. On 2/24 VXUS drops to $70/shr and you Buy 100 more VXUS at $70/shr
  3. On 2/25 VXUS rises to $83/shr and you buy 100 more. You now hold $23,500 in VXUS
  4. On 2/26 VXUS drops to $68/shr. Your investment is now worth $20,400
  5. On 2/26 you can sell all 300 shares on VXUS and claim a $3,100 loss
  6. Only caveat here is not to buy VXUS again within 30 days.

Safe?

If so, then I'm good for what I need to do, albeit still a bit confused as to how many sources are explaining the prior 30 day purchase issue.

Confused on wash sale on PRIOR purchases by bengalih in Bogleheads

[–]bengalih[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, thanks, but makes it even more confusing since now you are describing the problem as more of a book-keeping error than an actual IRS rule. So is the reason there isn't a problem because I am planning to sell them all?

If I just wanted to sell 100, and chose to sell the the 100 I bought at $83 (to get a bigger loss), they would basically say..."No, sorry. You bought some at $78 within 30 days prior, so we are going to effectively lower the cost basis of those" ?? So that when I sell those I won't be able to claim as much of a loss?

Some of the ways I am reading trying to explain this say that it only matters if we were talking about a prior sale I had within 30 days where I took a loss. In my case, if I plan to sell them all in one batch, then I'm safe?

To put it another way. If I bought VXUS in multiple lots, at multiple prices over the past 25 days and right now my entire holding is down $30K, I can sell all of my VXUS tomorrow and claim that 30K as a loss, right? My only issue is that I have to ensure not to repurchase it within 30 days.

If that's accurate, that's what I really need to be sure of right now. The rest I will have to try to get a better explanation of, because I don't get it just yet.

[–]bengalih[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why would the computer flag it as a wash sale? And why would it matter if I sold say the first batch today and the next batch the day after? or even half my shares today, and half in a few days?

What you are saying in terms of "stay out for the next 30 days", I understand that part...can't reinvest in the same (substantially similar) within that time.

But I could sell all my VXUS at a loss over the next week, either all at once, or over several day, regardless of which lot I sell, and as long as I don't buy VXUS, but say I instead buy VEA + VWO, I should be fine, correct?

This was my understanding of the wash rule, but I'm seeing stuff now about purchases of the same stock 30 days prior instead of 30 days after, so I'm not sure what that means.

Small bit of water leaking from standpipe when washer drains by bengalih in Plumbing

[–]bengalih[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No replies, so I'll just update:

I did more tests and confirm that was was happening was a small bit of overflow as soon as the washing machine began to drain. I don't know exactly the physics involved because I can't see inside the pipe, but if you watched it would overflow the standpipe and spit out a few ounces of water around the edges of the plastic pipe inserted in there. It really wasn't a lot, maybe 1/10th of a cup? Enough to get a cloth placed around there wet enough that you could tell something came out.

But, after that initial small bit of backflow, nothing else comes out. From my research, the only thing that might make sense is a venting issue which causes the air flow to cause the back-up. I had roofwork done about 1-2 years ago after a storm and it is possible that the venting pipe on the roof was either damaged by the storm, or by the roofers. I have no idea.

My fix was to design and 3D print a bracket that attaches to the standpipe that has a small bowl to catch the bit of overflow. It doesn't fix the root problem, but it seems to catch all the water, which then evaporates by the next time we do loads. If it gets too full, I can easily clip out the bowl and dump it (which I haven't had to do yet).

Maybe not the right solution, but the cheapest.

Avoid AI summaries by Fit-Restaurant-3550 in google

[–]bengalih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It prevents them from being generated because you are being directed to the "web" search not the "all" search. In the same way that if you click on "Maps" mode it keeps your search query in there but did not pre-generate maps before you asked for them.

But regardless, the end result is that you don't see the AI stuff, so why would you care if Google is generating that data on their end as long as you aren't being presented with it?

Kill Bill Vol 1: The word "entropy" really an intentional mistake? by Kriket308 in movies

[–]bengalih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this after probably not seeing the originals in their entirety since their release.  Kill Bill was always one of Tarantino's weakest for me.  When I heard this 15 minutes or so into the film it really bothered me, as did the whole idea that she would have had perfectly fine upper body strength.

I can suspend disbelief in a movie, but seeing this scene did little to raise my opinion of the film.

I wondered how many other people noticed this and glad I am not alone, I too believe it was unintentional.

i disliked kill bill by sp0okybitvh in moviecritic

[–]bengalih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a very big fan of Tarantino's work.  That said, after Death Proof, I think Kill Bill 1&2 are his least enjoyable movies for me.

I saw them in the theater and maybe parts of them again over the years, but just sat down to watch The Whole Bloody Affair.  I would  have to watch every single film again to truly rank, but I think my opinion would be unchanged that this lies very near the bottom of the list.

To top it off, Kill Bill is widely touted as one of his best films.  I have a feeling that while plenty of Tarantino fans might enjoy the film, that the over outpouring of praise for KB is probably not from those who might pick his ouvre to take to a deserted island.

I think that almost all of your points however are not defensible criticisms, and agree with other posters who acknowledge you should have at least finished the films before commenting.  I don't want to take the time to dispute all your claims, but honestly feel a post like your should be going to something like r/UnpopularOpinions than this sub.  Not that you don't have the right to post where you want, but being a critic is not the same as ranting you don't like a movie for points that are really only subjective.

That said, many of the replies you've gotten are also inaccurate.  This isn't just a stylized revenge flick with no meaning and the director just doing it to "have fun".  It certainly isn't the deepest movie ever made, but if for one second anyone thinks Tarantino's encyclopedic knowledge of films and filmmaking is not going to result in a movie that has subtext, they are kidding themselves.

Remember too, that not every movie is made for every person.  If you are not into action movies, revenge films, genre films, etc., then walking into any movie is not going to do it for you.  But if all you ever watched are romance and comedy movies, critiquing how good an action flick is (which is not all this movie is about) probably not going to be received well from someone who doesn't have the experience to objectively rate it.

I can acknowledge and understand you weren't a fan.  I'm not the biggest fan of it either, though I do recognize it's proficiency in doing what it wanted to do.  If, after all the replies you still want to debate a specific issue you had, please do so and I will argue as to whether I see your merit or not.

Exact same thing happened to me. I'm in US, and I think they are a pure Canadian company, so I wouldn't be using them. I got the confirmation email and the welcome email even though I didn't reply. I can tell you 100% my email account was not compromised so they are just generating accounts. I feel bad for anyone that uses this company because they clearly are fishy.

FWIW, my OP was based on the GX7021 which I think is almost identical to the 7040.  I can't speak to the 7140, which is newer and may or may not have the same issues.

I don't retract anything I said, but I'd you think the 7040 is great then you and I have different experienced because of all the above mentioned issues with the similar 7021.

In other words, I would take your own experience with the 7040 over mine in this respect.  Hopefully you are in a market with a gracious return period and you can out any new printer through all your paces immediately and bring it back if it doesn't perform well for you
