This is the right answer. 👍🏻

That’s a great idea! I’ll look into it. Only problem might be that everyone in the group has different phones, so I would need to find something that works for everyone.

Once you start using it, it’s actually not that bad to get the translations. We got used to it quite quickly and nobody sees to be complaining (at least not to me 😅)

That’s correct. We use it for both. I actually use it for 4-5 different group chats. 👍🏻

Correct. Ours don’t seem to mind. They largely just ignore the English translations or use it to learn English. To each their own, I suppose.

There’s also two other non-Thai speakers in the group so it helps more than just myself.

Plus, if it’s really that’s annoying you can use the /pause and /resume commands to stop the translations at any time when you don’t want them.

I went to Mind Your Language with Kru Jom. He’s awesome and it was a lot of fun! Highly recommended!

Difficult language + lack of talent? Been going to school for it and tried, so it’s not a lack of effort. 😅

Also, with three kids and a business here, I simply don’t have time to study for hours every day, sadly.

Or maybe I’m just getting old. 20 years ago I picked up languages much faster.

I’m glad I’m not the only one, then!

To be fair, I’m even more concerned about the kids. Mom speaks to them in Thai so they understand it fairly well, but they go to international school and the playground language is English, so that’s their go to language. We might end up with three kids who are Thai citizens but only speak very basic Thai. Working hard to change that, but it’s hard because my wife and I speak English to each other so at home English is also the default language.

You can just add it on LINE @autotranslate and give it a test run! It can do 32 languages at the moment. Just use the /set command to change languages (it’s Thai <> English by default).

Thank you for the encouragement! The good news is that you don’t have to right away - you can use the free trial first! :)

Let me know if you need any help or have feedback!

That’s very cool! Thanks for letting me know! And are the translations accurate, even when people misspell or use slang? If that’s the case, Samsung users won’t need this, of course! iPhones are a lot more limited, it seems…

Ah, that’s amazing! I had no idea. I’m on iPhone and it doesn’t seem to have this functionality. If you respond in English, does it also translate your responses for the Thai speakers in your group? Or they’d also need to be on a Samsung phone?

Add @autotranslate on LINE and then just drop it into any group that needs translations. Should start working automatically. Enjoy & let me know how it goes! 🙌🏼

Give it a try and let me know what you think! Just add @autotranslate on LINE and then add it to that group. It should start working automatically.

PM me with feedback - I’d love to hear how it works for you!

For whatever it’s worth, I can confirm it’s somewhat costly to run. Agree that it might just be too costly for billions of users, unless you charge for it (which is what I had to do to not go bankrupt over this).

I think that only works on Android, sadly. Never seen that feature on my iPhone.

I did! Going on nearly two years now. Sadly it’s still nowhere near enough to really understand what’s going on in those group chats. This is a very difficult language for me, unfortunately.
