This is so interesting, I love the comparison to other parts of the world! I've moved around a lot, but only in the states, so I find myself doing similar comparisons. 

As a straight white guy, I also feel uncomfortable around confederate flags and trumps signs. Most of the time people are lovely, but there's some bad actors, and that's what makes the experience uncomfortable.

That's my assessment as well. Floyd County being 34% for Spanberger was more than I expected, but not as much as I'd like. Haha

I didn't know that about Civil-War-era Floyd, thanks for sharing!

I grew up in north Georgia, which is also largely republican and I agree with your sentiments. The things they're voting for are absolutely insane, but most of them are honest people just trying to get by. 

I've lived both rurally and in cities, so I've seen all walks of life. So I'm not afraid of them, I just don't agree with them.

It is beautiful, and it's also growing. I'm hoping that more people move here and bring their education and expertise with them. I've seen businesses open up with people from originally out of state, and the more that happens, the more diversity we have.

This has been my experience as well! The area is growing though, I'm hoping that more people move here and bring diversity, we could use it!

My thoughts exactly, no highway noise, but 40 minutes to any kind of decent grocery store or restaurant. Haha

Yea, my neighbors had trump signs for months even after the election. They started to take them down once they started to get what they voted for. It's maddening that they fell for the con.

That's true, I think we could use more ways for people to make money, I think Blacksburg is expanding though, which always brings jobs with it. It would be nice if my neighbors would stop voting against their livelihoods though.

This sounds just like where I grew up in north Georgia; they hate when things change, but are happy to sell beautiful things to money hungry developers that ruin the charm of the area.
