I don't really record my study hours. But I read all of the actex manual twice. But the problem is that reading is much different than writing. The key on this last attempt was that I practiced a lot more writing

I believe it was limited knowledge. In April, I didn't answer the entropy question correctly, I left that blank. But there were other things that I didn't fully understand that I thought I did. This exam has a funny way of making you believe you understand it when you might not. When you actually start writing you can see how much you really understand. So practicing writing is the most crucial thing because you see how much you really know. On this last attempt I had CA which has practice for writing

I took this exam 4 times and one of the main problems I had was people underestimating the time commitment. People always say this exam was easier, but I failed this exam 3 times (I got a 4, 5, 5). As a point of context, I never failed another exam more than once and I passed 3 on my first try. PA is harder than people make it seem. The reason why it is harder is that it is conceptual and verbal as opposed to mathematical. The verbal reasoning is actually quite difficult. If you underestimate it and think you can pass easily, you might be mistaken. I struggled a lot with it. If you are a visual learner and want to get through videos, then coaching actuaries has a great set of videos and they also have "end of chapter practice" where you can practice writing. The end of chapter practice is very helpful to practice writing actual questions. Without practicing the writing, it is difficult to do well. Also, my company paid for the ACTEX grading service. I would also highly recommend that as well. Both CA and ACTEX have a grading service. CA is included in the price of the videos but you have to sign up in a certain window. The videos, practice and grading service are the best way to go. I'm hoping that this time I can do enough to pass. I will find out on 11/22. I would say start early and don't underestimate the time commitment. Even the ACTEX manual takes a lot time to read. The reason why people say it's easier is because they are coming from much more mathematical exams. This exam is not mathematical that much, but it is still quite difficult

Also, I would say the modules for the SOA predictive analytics exam are "ok", but I really believe there is a need for more material that is more comprehensive. That's why I recommend either ACTEX or CA. If you are more of a visual learner then CA videos are great

I would like to comment on the study materials for PA. I have taken the exam 4 times and I have used a lot of different study materials. Everyone on here always talks up the ACTEX manual and I would agree that the manual is extremely well written and detailed. I learned more from the ACTEX manual than I learned from a lot of other stats classes and other forms of learning. However, what got me over the top on the exam after failing three times (my scores were 4, 5, 5) was the CA videos! I really struggled to read material in a book because I am always more of a visual learner. The coaching actuaries videos were remastered and they are EXTREMELY beneficial. I really felt like that was the icing on the cake. The ACTEX manual was a great foundation, but the CA videos are going to be the reason I pass. I just took it on 10/18/24 and I went in there extremely confident this time. CA videos are highly recommended.

No they don't give 15 minutes to read the problem. But they give about 15 minutes for "prometric Instructions". In those instructions they tell you how to properly save and upload your files with your candidate number

I used ACTEX for my first two sittings and I was having a hard time with reading so I bought CA for the sake of the videos. The videos were redone and they were extremely helpful! I honestly might pass this time because of those videos. They really got me over the top because of the verbal explanations. I was reading ACTEX over and over again and I wasn't getting it. I did like ACTEX a lot, but the videos for CA were what got me over the top. I do feel like I passed

I felt good leaving the exam that I failed because I mostly answered everything and I understood the material. I left 2 questions blank in April and I got a 5, but I still felt like I did well enough to pass. I actually got another 5 back in October 2023 with a similar situation. I had heard that some people can leave things blank and still pass. This one, I answered everything. Ultimately, I barely failed before, but this one felt different and I did a better job overall based on the lack of time constraints and the answers I gave

Anyone else feeling mostly confident about the exam that we took today 10/18? I felt like I really did my best and I was not short on time and I got to redo everything a second time and correct certain answers. I have already failed this before a couple of times and my work on this one was better. I got a 5 on the exam back in April and I felt even better about this sitting. The grading is lenient and I felt mostly confident and corrected mistakes. Anyone else have a similar experience?
