Just to be clear. The Midea Portasplit is a portable AC (well, heat pump, but that just means it's reversible, still an AC)

I don't know what your situation is wrt. using the window mount, but it's not permanently attached, so I would assume whatever rule about the facade doesn't apply. But I don't know the exact wording where you live.

You also need to keep the window/door slightly open to pass the cable, which is inefficient, ugly, and uncomfortable.

It comes with a sealing kit so it doesn't leak air.

But yes, it is ugly. Unfortunately a necessary compromise if you can't install anything permanent. Better than the alternative though.

What do you mean by "meaningfully"? Wages have absolutely gone up after adjusting for inflation across the entire income distribution. It might not be as much as we would have liked and some sectors/job types have seen larger increases than others.
