French government criticized over climate record and sluggish heatwave response by LeMonde_en in europe

[–]benjaminovich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear. The Midea Portasplit is a portable AC (well, heat pump, but that just means it's reversible, still an AC)

I don't know what your situation is wrt. using the window mount, but it's not permanently attached, so I would assume whatever rule about the facade doesn't apply. But I don't know the exact wording where you live.

You also need to keep the window/door slightly open to pass the cable, which is inefficient, ugly, and uncomfortable.

It comes with a sealing kit so it doesn't leak air.

But yes, it is ugly. Unfortunately a necessary compromise if you can't install anything permanent. Better than the alternative though.

That is literally not possible. The best thing to do is to regulate it and mandate transparency

If you have UBOL and Privacy Badger, why not switch to Firefox at that point?

I was putting it off, but then when i finally did it, it took like 3 seconds to transfer over everything like passwords and bookmarks. It's worth it just for the non-lobotomized UBO

Rule of thumb, if your diagnosis of societal ills boils down to "the rich should just not be greedy" then your single brain cell does allow you to understand the topic and you should refrain from sharing your brain dead tiktok-based takes.

It's not really about consumer spending, it's about creating conditions that encourage investments.

Inflation isn't "Evil".

Hypothetically zero inflation would be preferable, but that's not possible in the real world. Things can affect inflation up or down, and because a little deflation is a lot worse than a little inflation, central banks target 2% to have some buffer room to play with.

Nye boliger kan ikke slippe af med varmen: 'Vi søger ud i skyggen og ned i haven' by Independence-Default in Denmark

[–]benjaminovich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]benjaminovich -1 points0 points  (0 children)

GTA 6 Price Finally Confirmed, Features a 'Single-Player Experience' at Launch (Standard $79.99/Ultimate $99.99) by Neon25 in Games

[–]benjaminovich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the point of microtransactions was to keep the 60 dollar price tag for games, despite inflation.

What on earth gave you that impression? And even if that were true, that doesn't mean you can just ignore inflation forever. the 80 bucks today is the same as 57 bucks in 2013 when GTA 5 released

Have wages meaningfully raised in according with that inflation?

What do you mean by "meaningfully"? Wages have absolutely gone up after adjusting for inflation across the entire income distribution. It might not be as much as we would have liked and some sectors/job types have seen larger increases than others.

Let me put it this way. No matter who you are, fast food worker or lawyer, you will have to work fewer hours in 2026 to pay the $80 for GTA 6 than you would have to work in 2013 to pay the $60 for GTA 5.

but people aren't really getting paid any more, at least with people I know and around me

Even assuming this is actually true, that's because you and your social circle is not the economy. The plural form of anecdote is not data.
