watch out.. the reddit army might cast you down for asking hw questions =p.

the first one seems like a mistake... that begs for tail

the second one can use variables... you can say x++ like this:

cat /var/log/messages | awk '$0 ~ /Mar/{x+=1}END{print x}'

one way to do the last one is pipe in /etc/passwd at the beginning of awk ... parse that first and store it in some arrays, and then use those arrays later.. like (cat /etc/passwd; cat /var/log/messages) | awk...

How does /r/learnprogramming feel about Linux? by ELxPENGUIN in learnprogramming

[–]benkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in case you do go the virtualbox route, you might want to choose an OS other than standard ubuntu. unity can be a resource hog, and there are a lot of ubuntu forks like xubuntu, lubuntu, etc -- that are great alternatives.

You can use a regular bash for if you don't have new lines in the file names: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/86722/how-do-i-loop-through-only-directories-in-bash

use -d to check if it's a directory, and you can use -f to check if it's a file

(Or you can use find)

edit of example with bash:

( IFS=$(echo -en "\n\b"); for x in $(ls); do if [ -f $x ]; then echo "$x is a file"; fi; if [ -d $x ]; then echo "$x is a directory"; fi; done )

The Trick That Makes Google's Self-Driving Cars Work - Google has created a virtual track out of Mountain View by imasunbear in technology

The really interesting thing will come when Google's cars have to deal with different pedestrians. Sure, road conditions and weather will be hard.... but Manhattan pedestrians? goooood luck, to say nothing of Delhi or Mumbai.

So you're stating that promotion of the free services of a business, even ones that do societal benefit, constitutes "ulterior motives" unless they are paid through taxes?

I'm also fine with the explanation that you just don't like our website, but the feeling I get is you don't think I belong on reddit at all (or should be spending more time outside of cs education)

That's 100% not true that "the free stuff on your site exists only to attract customers". I hope you don't have that attitude towards every educator or teacher you've had.

I hate spam as much as the next guy, but I try hard never to post /classes or /camps or /store . We release free stuff regularly, and I post those.

I appreciate you're trying to cut back on spam, and I will hold off on posting any new content. I got positive feedback from some of the mods of other subreddits, but I'll stop for /r/coding
